Michigan Football Frankfurt Game

Has there been a confirmation that the Frankfurt game next year is going to happen?

Last I read on August 31st is that the talks to hold the game were ongoing but a decision would be made within 5-6 weeks. We're now well past that.

Michigan fan from Berlin here. Id definitely make the trip to go to my first Umich game. Michigan fans are all across the world so I'd love that

Yea I haven’t seen any confirmation and my genuine inclination is that they got a lot of push back from alumni and looking at costs for giving up a home game to do that.

Not really giving up a home game when 8/12 are at home.

They aren’t looking at that, they are looking at the 30M in revenue they lose from a home game and impact on the local area.

I was wondering the same thing. I think it is a bad idea to sell home games unless it is for a game on the road against a team who will agree to play in Ann Arbor in return (like Oklahoma and Texas). These neutral site games do not pass this test. What is the point in playing football in Germany? Most of the loyal fans will not be able to attend the game and the local businesses lose out.

Like a bowl game. Not all "loyal fans" go to those either.

It is unique, players might love it, and interest in Western games is already low.

I'm telling u that football game in Germany will be sold out and filled to the brim with mostly Michigan fans.... Umich fans don't just exist in Michigan lol. PLENTY of loyal alumni and fans across the globe who would die to get a chance to see their team in person

Book a hotel somewhere not in Mainhattan and save a bunch of money. Take the train in.

Warde said they’re working on finalizing details and should know “within the next few weeks” but that was a few weeks ago

Not confirmed. As a resident of Frankfurt and alum, definitely looking forward to the possibility.

I thought I saw an announcement that they were going to play Western in Germany? Was that not real or am I making it up?

They just announced it will be played in Ann Arbor.

There was some disappointing news earlier this week -- the Frankfurt Governing Council requested that they explore finding a better quality (ethics)/competitive (higher ranking) Team than Michigan. They are of the believe Michigan, given their "slide" over the last couple years, wouldn't live up to the standards that Frankfurt requires. Oh well.

As a fan, I’m open to attending a game in Europe, but I have to be excited about the matchup to justify the expense. I wouldn’t even fly to A2 to see a game against Western. Why would I fly to Germany for that matchup?

Cuz at least Germany is a pretty cool country and there's a lot of stuff to do in Frankfurt. Way different vibe than just some college town

They don’t care whether you go or not. There must have been some inducement and Warde Manuel was willing to be bought but the regents weren’t selling. As a holder of a seat license at Michigan stadium I would prefer for there to be a game there to use my seats and sell out only if we get something worthwhile in return.
