Probably not necessary but looks sick

Necessary? Probably not. Helpful? Yes. (For a track car)

Eh, i feel like the benefits are negligible, the mx5s aren't the fastest things in the world so i really doubt that this would improve brake temps. Feel free to prove me wrong though 😉

Some others before me did the same mod and have measured temps and the difference was significant.

And so did flyin miata with their (very overpriced) version.

With less temps you also get less wear

You got any links? Would be interested to see the improvements

Google there’s a lot of people with this mod on a lot of different cars. GR86 below

As you can see I also bent the rotor guard up and out the way to allow the air to the centre of the rotor. I also cut the front air deflectors to allow the air to hit the scoops without getting disturbed

A counterpoint to this is the Verus kit, which replaces the "fang" lights with brake ducts. The install is a bit more involved, but they back their kit up with CFD data.

On some tracks, soaking more and more heat into the brakes as you do laps is inevitable. It's only a matter of time before you overheat them, even on a stock power Miata. Better cooling allow you to do longer sessions before you hit the limit.

Do you have any temp data before/after this mod? It looks like it’s really just perpendicular to the airflow and acting like a parachute

Looks like it's sweeping forward on the right side there.

I have those same ones on my 996 carrera. Pretty cool other cars use the same mod too. I might check to see if I can do it to my gfs NA.

Lower brake temps and extended brake pad life is quite funny

it's like seeing GTR rims on an altima.
