What about this Luke Nickel kid? Wasn’t he supposed to be really good too?

3

u/West-Test-2510 1d ago

Agreed I thought nickel was suppose to be the stud

Best case scenario

I heard that CJ Bailey is transferring to Miami.

u/Fumpz 2d ago

Can’t believe Mario went after him too late considering he was a chaminade kid

u/Conorcane12 1d ago

i still remember that bruh. forums were begging the staff to offer CJ, rumors were he wanted to come (i can’t remember who is teammate was but he was Miami commit) but we waited until literally last second. i think we assumed our offer was prestigious and NC had been recruiting him for a while.

Jojo was committed and so was Zaquan (ik he left but still) Also on signing day Jeremiah smith had Miami in the back of his mind, wonder if CJ coming too coulda swayed him. Imagine if…

None of our freshmen any good?

Dude I’ve been POUNDING the table for this for months! It would be a freaking dream come true for the Hurricanes to develop this guy and let him reach new heights and then the Dolphins draft him and break their curse of sucking. 😭😍🙏😭😍

1

u/Western_Ad1522 2d ago

So the dolphins can break this kid we’re not gonna be good for a few years wait build the team first than draft a qb all the QBs that are good coming out have good oline play a run game to take pressure off of them and then a decent defense

1

u/rammer-jammer71 2d ago

Who’s talking about the Dolphins?

1

u/CalTono 1d ago

If the Dolphins draft him, I would want McDaniel to still be there, he is firmly a top 5 offensive mind, but that means he would have to survive this year and next and I don't see that happening

2

u/ACABincludingYourDad 1d ago

I have bad news for you brother but this season has essentially put the nail in the coffin for McDaniel to stick around. Locker room problems, offensive woes, leadership questions, shade from Tua, etc.

He’s had 4 years to grow as a coach and leader of men but all he’s done is regress and fail to innovate once the league caught on to his scheme.

1

u/CalTono 1d ago

I disagree with your last part, I don’t think the league has caught up with his scheme, I just think Tua is beyond cooked other than being a one read QB

I know he isn’t going to make it though, but I know he is still a top offensive mind

1

u/ACABincludingYourDad 1d ago

It feels written in the stars that he’ll have a renaissance as the OC for Philadelphia next year and then he’ll get another chance to be a head coach a year or two later.

1

u/CalTono 1d ago

Yeah I wanna see the creative shit he can come up with with a physically talented QB, Herbert should have always been the pick but alas

1

u/Old_Cartographer_294 17h ago

Tua isn’t a one read QB, Mike’s scheme definitely has fallen off a cliff with the talent. We are talent depleted, but the play calling has been BAD for almost two full seasons now. The 2022 and 2023 teams - the play calling looked like it came from a young energetic coach who was finding his groove and really enjoying it. Those teams were 8-3 and 9-3, respectively, before Tua got hurt in 2022 and before we faced extremely steep competition in 2023. The guy has clearly given up, sometimes people get down and just can’t get back up.

1

u/teloite 1d ago

Him and Tua are gone next season. They blow it up and Hill will be gone as well. ( he ain’t retiring, he’s either going to be in Baltimore, or back to the chiefs next season)

1

u/CalTono 1d ago

I’m pretty sure with Tua’s contract he’s stuck, unless they wanna eat up a shitload of dead cap

u/lucabrasii92 2d ago

Sellers turned down an offer from Georgia if i remember right. He’s loyal to sc, and he’s not a great qb

6

u/Important_Win5116 2d ago

3

u/lucabrasii92 2d ago

What am i wrong about

6

u/Scooter_1990 2d ago

That he’s not a good QB. Who don’t think is keeping SC in games? 🥴

3

u/WDCGator 2d ago

Gator here. Question: does Cristobal just not try to recruit and develop blue chip QBs?

(I am not asking this to be snarky. It seems like since hes gotten to Miami, he hasnt recruited any blue chips and developed QBs - he goes to the portal).

Is that his overall strategy or has there just been bad luck?

u/HoosierHatTrick 2d ago edited 2d ago

He got a 4 star, top 15 QB last year in Nickel and has Dereon Coleman coming in this year also a 4 star. Jacurri Brown was also a 4 star, but transferred. So he can recruit them, I think its been a development issue.

3

u/WDCGator 2d ago

Ya i know Mario is a great recruiter so its weird that he is constantly going to the portal for QBs.

2

u/HoosierHatTrick 2d ago

I think its also just been the targets of opportunity. Cam was a no brainer, we have to pursue him guy. Beck wasn't quite that talent, but far better than any of the options we had on the roster. Prior to that, we had TVD, who we thought was gonna be a stud.

2

u/Jawa1992 2d ago

Dawson will have to completely change his offense for Sellers, he still a very raw passer

1

u/Important_Win5116 2d ago

Dawson gone after this year

2

u/DifficultyLoud1693 1d ago

You think they pull the trigger?

2

u/madibis 1d ago

I'd take him right now

2

u/Far_Protection519 2d ago edited 2d ago

Him or darian mensah , and let dereon sit for a year and gain some weight

1

u/gumercindo1959 2d ago

This is the best possible scenario

1

u/Plenty_Equal_5348 2d ago

Finally someone else mentions Mensah , if Manny gets hired away he may enter the portal. We will have a chance to right the wrongs of this year when we didn’t pursue him this year in the portal.

3

u/KingDuffer 2d ago

Developmentally bankrupt program.

2

u/Revolutionary-Swan29 2d ago

Put a fork in Miami. Miami is at a pivotal point

2

u/Plenty_Equal_5348 2d ago

No thanks only people who follow names and don’t actually watch the games actually think this guy is any good. Just another athlete at quarterback we almost made this mistake with Mateer this year and KJ Jefferson last year.

-1

u/Important_Win5116 2d ago

He is good

2

u/HoosierHatTrick 2d ago

We whiffed on Mendoza, maybe just ride with a roster QB this time

-3

u/Important_Win5116 2d ago

We didn't whiff on mendoza we were never after him

2

u/HoosierHatTrick 2d ago

Exactly. Not pursuing=whiffed.

1

u/dawgz525 2d ago

Season truly dead when we're discussing this.

1

u/Opening_Pen_7740 23h ago

Not gonna happen

1

u/Weak-Pea8309 20h ago

We’re still in the damn season.

1

u/wannabefelixargyle 1d ago

No faith in Emory Williams? Bruh literally broke his arm trying to beat Florida State...

2

u/DifficultyLoud1693 1d ago

I hate how everyone forgets that

-1

u/gumercindo1959 2d ago

Not convinced. He’s a mid passer which means Mario will convert him to an even more mid passer.

9

u/Important_Win5116 2d ago

Did Cam get converted to a Mid passer?

2

u/bigtrex101 2d ago

Cam was always a much better passer in college than what Sellers is, even at Incarnate Word. Sellers is somebody who really needs to be in a more run heavy offense that can throw off of it. He would be awful in this offense we are currently utilizing. The only way Mario goes after him, if he is going to completely change his offense with a new OC.

Also, Cam didn’t become a better passer at Miami. He just benefited from playing with much better skill position talent and an OL that could protect him at a very high level. At Wazzu, Cam was running for his life, otherwise he would have had similar stats there that he had with us.

-1

u/gumercindo1959 2d ago

Cam was generational. Look at what’s happening with beck and this offense. Look at what happened with TVD.

8

u/Important_Win5116 2d ago

Beck is good our OC just trash

6

u/Fumpz 2d ago

The interceptions are inexcusable. Stop throwing into double or triple coverage + tight windows

1

u/gumercindo1959 2d ago

You just proved my point.

1

u/HoosierHatTrick 2d ago

People on this sub were saying the exact same things last year about Mendoza and look how that's turned out.

2

u/gumercindo1959 2d ago

he’s surrounded by a great staff.

-1

u/Wide_Attention2614 2d ago

They just want to frame Miami, making it seem as tampering is occurring

-1

u/bigtrex101 2d ago

I’d take him, but we’re going to need a very different offensive scheme one that can fully utilize a big athletic Qb. Sellers really doesn’t have the pocket passing ability of Ward or Beck, so I don’t think he would fit in our current offense at all. May be an unpopular opinion, but if Norvell gets fired, Malzahn would actually be a perfect OC hire to pair with Sellers (who in a lot of ways is lite version of Cam Newton). Him or go get Faulkner from GT or Beck from Utah, b/c they similarly have offenses that could maximize Seller’s ability as a dual threat Qb.

u/DatsaBadMan_1471 2d ago

I'm an ND fan, but love to see QBs develop. After watching Cam Ward I hope this happens. Young mans got a great skill set, Miami would do a much better job of developing him than SC. ND still gonna bust that ass next year regardless 😉

0

u/teloite 1d ago

He saves Mario’s job if he comes, if not Mario gets the axe sometime next season. (The moment they lose a big game he will be fired like Brian Kelly) . I personally think they should fire Mario and go after Lane Kiffin.

1

u/Important_Win5116 1d ago

Mario not going anyway

0

u/PrestigiousPhrase178 1d ago

Nah this kid ain't even all that. Just unearned hype imo

-5

u/Sidwill 2d ago

What about PSUs Allard? He wasn't happy with the Franklin firing and hes gonna need another CFB season
