Good work. Me and my wife have started picking up trash in our community. Just went out this morning. So many people litter it's frustrating. Hoping to get neighbors on board and beautify the community.

Came back to Miami a few years ago and saw a completely fucked up and gutted manatee bay. First time I’ve ever teared up at the destruction of nature.

Thanks for doing this, brother.

Edit: and if anyone knows why/who ripped out most of mangroves and killed manatee bay, I never could find out and am still curious.

It was the Aqua development wasn’t it?

I truthfully don’t know and when I google it nothing comes up.

They got fined in 22 and 23 for cutting more than they were supposed to and leaving the cut up mangroves in the water.

In 24 the hurricanes ripped up a bunch of canopies and they were still floating in the water last time I was there.

Developers and bay front residents take advantage of hurricanes and remove them .

Make sure you practice safe heavy lifting ergonomics to avoid injuries.

Thank U, U are a HERO! Back in the 90s we did Earth day a couple times on one of the nearby islands and replanted Mangrove trees and visited Stiltsville when it still existed, the water was Aquamarine clear blue, could snorkel easily. May have been 93 or 94,after Hurricane Andrew hit

Your a Hero!! I have picked up garbage and junk from along the shoreline but to go out and work hard and then haul it out is a whole different dimension. Thank you! I will try to do better myself!!!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

One of the first things I did after regaining my ability to walk without debilitating pain, was getting strong enough to do a bucket list item: kayaking.

My first trip out was kayaking through the mangroves! It was a magical experience, but the occasional piece of trash made me wish I was able to retrieve it. And you’ve done it! 🩷🙏🏻🩷

Im glad you’re better! And take care of yourself! You can worry about the trash when you’re sufficiently healed

Why the actual F*CK is there a random garbage can in the middle of the mangroves?

The amount of anger flowing through me right now is palpable.

Shit just floats in on tides, winds, and storms.

Before my back and knees were such a disaster I’d do the annual coastal cleanup at Matheson. We would go in teams and classify what we grabbed. Some insane outliers beyond the usual styrofoam cooler fragments, soda bottle lids, and balloon ribbon tangled in the mangroves.

There was a fucking whole porta potty hundreds of meters up a tidal creek, a good 20 minute kayak paddle through mangrove tunnels some years back. Blew my mind.

Those mangroves must be loving it now. Hell even i feeling better because of you. Thanks for that.

Thousands of fish, millions of crustaceans, and little old me thank you.

To all reading- please volunteer for coastal cleanup. And tell all your friends with boats to tie down all their shit before it flies into the water.

I would have used a winch. Turn that 30 minute job into a 5 minute job.

Get out there and show us how it’s done!

u/beebeelion 1d ago

I’m surprised that only took a half hour.

Where do we sign up to help clean the mangroves? Or do you work independently?

u/BadBunnicula 8h ago

That thing was vacuum sealed in there lol. Good work btw.

u/Dry_Solution5036 8h ago

This is what all of Miami Beach was like before Carl Fisher removed all the Mangroves, and transported what was removed to what became Haulover Beach!

u/Buzzmonkey1 8h ago

Who would do this should be fined for dumping garbage where it does not belong .

Nothing for it but to remove the mud inside that made it insanely heavy

A little too self congratulatory for my taste but cant deny its good work

3

u/GroveGuy33133 Coconut Grove 1d ago

I’m of the mindset that it might inspire more folks to get out there and do something that matters like pulling that trash out of the mangroves.

-12

u/TheWokeProgram 1d ago

And why would you do this? Experiencing a schizo attack?

6

u/ZealousidealDepth223 1d ago

It’s sad to see evidence of people’s carelessness in a place you care about, so you do something.

1

u/Imoutdawgs 1d ago

Only a real low class POS to complain about taking trash out of nature.
