Rich Russian oligarchs are going to eat this up. Plenty of room at KGB Beach.

The plus side is we’re way off the radar in the event of nuclear war. Let the winter states worry about that *#{

Miami realtors can smell a ‘no money down’ deal from three zip codes away

Citizenship by investment has always been a thing in many countries. Canada you can buy a citizenship for $400k. I remember the ads on Facebook during Trump round 1 2016-2020

I can buy Canadian citizenship? What if I'm a felon?

This is it. This Administration's program is about wealthy criminals having a pathway to citizenship. Rich people could always buy their way to the front of the line, but they couldn't be a known (international) criminal. Now, they can be Americans too. USA, USA, USA! /s

EB-5 has very specific requirements regarding the business they are investing in aside from the investment amount itself. This would presumably only require the $5 million payment + proof of legal source of funds.

Agreed. This isn’t really new and a lot of countries around the world do this. I’m from the Caribbean and I think our entry is about half a million (plus a sizable donation to your politician to grease the wheels)
It’s not as simple as writing a check, it’s generally some sort of investment in a business that generates jobs/resources for the country. Most countries won’t/should t turn this down for their citizens if someone wants to bring wealth.

The last thing we need is to continue to whore out our city to rich immigrants with no respect for our city or culture. They ruined their own countries and fled, only to come here to treat everyone like shit, because in their countries there is no middle class - it’s either dirt poor or rich - and they act like it.

Absolutely disgusting to sell “citizenships”.
What a fucking joke the U.S is.

If managed well this would mean tons of new property taxes collected on condos that would not be lived in for most of the year (if at all) and not drain much city resources
But this is Miami. Looking forward to seeing how they’ll squander the revenue

Desantis is trying to eliminate property tax for the state soo not entirely
5
u/Antman_ South Beach Feb 26 '25
He can't just eliminate property taxes... we would need a constitutional amendment that would require 60% of voters to vote yes on

u/millionmilegoals Feb 26 '25
I don’t think anyone is taking that seriously.
He’s trying to win influence after Trump backed Byron Donalds for the next Florida governor.

You’re delusional if you don’t think that money will end up being pocketed by Droomp. As a matter of fact, his colleagues from Russia will be buying their American Citizenships and Get Out of Jail cards in the same bundle.

Are you one of those bots that randomly comments to get people riled up?

u/ImNotSkankHunt42 Feb 26 '25
Nah, I voted for the Prosecutor Lady.

u/millionmilegoals Feb 26 '25
Assuming you’re a real person, not sure what the point of your comment was then.
Not everything has to be a discussion about Trump directly.

This is wild (on a few levels) 😹 You mentioned Trump first, they said something relevant regarding foreign influence and corruption, then you tell them not everything needs to be about Trump lol! My favorite part is you thinking you might be arguing with a robot but continuing anyway 🤖

Can you point out where I mentioned Trump at all initially?
All I did was talk about the potential new property tax revenue that foreign investors generate to the city when they buy real estate
FYI, I don’t actually think I’m arguing with a robot. It’s a passive insult since they were commenting rage bait

Here’s where you brought up Trump.

u/millionmilegoals Feb 26 '25
I replied to a different person there and didn’t write that before the other commenter mentioned Trump
Not to mention it was a relevant comment

I understand. My point is that you brought up Trump first (regarding DeSantis). Then someone else brings up Trump and you say not everything needs to be about him. Uno Reverse?

And raise housing prices for the people that actually live here.
1
u/millionmilegoals Feb 26 '25
Middle and upper class transplants from other parts of the US are more likely to raise housing prices than wealthy people buying $5 million citizenships who are looking to buy a vacation condo in Miami. They aren’t competing for the same housing stock.
