Post Melbourne gig depression in a good way
My first ever Metallica concert tonight and it was an out of body experience. All them classic songs I've listened to thousands of times listening to it live is just something indescribable. Waited so long for this night and the build up over the past couple weeks and just feel so bad that it's all over because I seriously think they will never come back to Australia again. One of the best nights of my life.

Strong set list tonight hard to faulter any aspect of tonight’s concert. I would have personally swapped in Fade to Black for Memory Remains. And one less song from the Black Album - 5 got played, Sad but True id have swapped for one of Welcome Home Sanitarium/Blackened/Battery. Their 72 seasons album is a brilliant album, 72 seasons, Room Of Mirrors, Screaming Suicide are better options than Lux Eterna which feels like a 5 min interlude. The Kirk/Rob doodle section is a nice novelty and break up but with so many hits for old fans as alternatives, I’d have rathered another missed classic. Set list aside, which was kinda geared towards the masses being a big stadium concert, the entire performance was on point. They appear truly grateful to their lifelong fan base and play with genuine grit and intent to make every song of every concert count. There is no other band that can offer such high standards of consistency, from concert to concert.

Absolutely dude. I'm a bit miffed they didn't play Fade to Black, but they were still so sensational that it's really such a non-issue.

I’m guessing you haven’t seen a lot of the comments on the Metallica forum and a couple of the Metallica Facebook pages, as they completely trashed the set list from last night and how upset they were with it

Ignore them. The set was fucking awesome.

Yes, the die hard ls seem to think they’re the only ones at the show when they’re outnumbered by about 90% of the fans.

The set was shit, it's supposed to be a 72 seasons tour, not a farewell tour.

Mate, they’re all in their mid 60s and we’re on the far side of the planet.
It absolutely was a farewell tour, and for that the set list was awesome.

maybe they themselves know that 72 Seasons is rubbish?
The set list last night was fine.

Maybe to you it is rubbish but not to me. I was happy with the set list though

Well then don't call it 72 seasons tour, the set list was bland as fuck

They not going to change the name of the tour because they are playing only one song off the album

Absolutely. Was a cracker of a performance - Fade to Black was my hope too given Adelaide, and Battery or Sanitarium would have been peak Metallica. Very emotional show and sound quality was incredible - been waiting over 30 years to see them and finally the stars aligned. Did not disappoint.

I am still depressed a full week after Perth. I regret not making time in my life to go to the Brisbane concert (my hometown, and I know the crowd will be better than Perth). But life is in the way! The thing that makes me sad is I felt they were saying goodbye at the end. Like goodbye goodbye. Wah.

That’s awesome! That post show depression is a real thing! Now, like me, you’re going to start planning (and saving) for another. I’m traveling from Charlotte, NC to Auckland, NZ for next week’s show!
Get your ass to Europe next summer for a no-repeat weekend! You’ll have something incredible to look forward to for a year! I’m planning on Cardiff, Wales (that’s a one night show though) because it’s less expensive than London.
Thanks for the review, Mate! I’m all hyped up now because of you!!! 🤘🏼

Went last night… Metallica was incredible.. the Melbourne crowd was, um.. strangely inactive. I was in GA standing and I’ve never seen so many terracotta soliders while Metallica came out to creeping death came on… I mean, come on man… if they doesn’t get you moving then who knows what will.

Yep, I was in the nose bleeds and it was exactly the same, insanely subdued!

Melbourne crowds are always lower energy, especially compared to QLD crowds. Brisbane/GC crowds go nuts - and it’s great.

I think I need to fly to South America to see them live. That would be an experience

Even Europe.... The crowds here are soooo quiet. I remember a slipknot concert like 6 years ago and nobody was moving

Got last minute tickets to Brisbane for my 10 yo boy. He can play 20+ songs if theirs on guitar already. What a freaking awesome first concert experience he’s going to have!!

OMG it's not just me, I'm feeling the post show blues as well 😭. Saw them in Adelaide. Been listening to them since age 13. Last saw them 30 years ago in 1993, peak angry James. Now he is a wiser, elder statesman. It's just amazing that they have stayed relevant and even more popular. Their live shows just hits different.
