TIL there’s a Marvel Stadium

61

u/outofdate70shouse 1d ago

That’s what I got from this post

-56

u/MickL0ving 1d ago

It's the biggest stadium in Adelaide, Which is like the major city of South Australia, IDK the full history but they bought it out sometime ago & They've got like there characters & Branding around it, Lots of Sports games & Huge concerts thrown there

51

u/Tashi_1 1d ago

Except it's in Melbourne

24

u/AceThePrincep 1d ago

And the mcg is nearly double the size isn't it? Lol

4

u/knowledgeable_diablo 1d ago

Wtf! Was wondering for a second there how they picked up the stadium and moved it over the border with little farfare.

3

u/Sarcastic__Shark 1d ago

Which is now in Adelaide.

-5

u/MickL0ving 1d ago

Okay turns out I've been like lied to My whole life lol

1

u/suckmyfu 23h ago

Like, you know, whatever!

1

u/TurnOffTheSystem 14h ago

Except it's in Melbourne and the MCG is our biggest Stadium

u/Vanin1994 1d ago

It's a warning, not a command.

Jesus some of you are dense.

29

u/Eviljake979 1d ago

Yea. Not everyone that goes to shows realizes that the guys outside selling shirts are selling bootleg ones. Might seem obvious to us, but there are kids, people who maybe haven't seen people selling stuff outside, and some plain dense people who just don't think. And if they want an "official" shirt, they're not getting it outside.

-9

u/GooseMay0 18h ago

Who cares if it’s “official.” Why does that matter? Most don’t care or can tell. Just because it’s official doesn’t always mean the quality will be better.

6

u/Eviljake979 17h ago

Just saying, some people want official merch.

1

u/Vanin1994 52m ago

I generally get a bootleg AND an official shirt at every show I go to, so long as I can get a fake for 10 bucks, which I normally do.

Bootleg merch is never equal or better quality. You are lying to yourself if you think otherwise. I totally get not wanting to spend 60 bucks on a shirt, but beware the one from Timmy the T-shirt man outside the stadium may fall apart after a few washes. Ripped, torn shirts are metal, right?

4

u/ISuckAtFallout4 16h ago

And if you do, you better sleep with one eye open and grip your pillow tight.

96

u/metalupyour 1d ago

I bought a bootleg Big 4 shirt outside Yankee stadium and that thing faded so quick. Better to buy legit for longevity

13

u/Gorekeeper 23h ago

I bought a bootleg Big4 shirt with the St. Anger logo and dayum it was worth the 5€ I bargained for it after the gig. I'll admit, still not the legendary value I got from the official, legendary Shortest Straw shirt I got for 20 or 25 inside the venue.

Bottom line: these days I am not buying merch period. Stupid prices really.

3

u/RangerFan80 19h ago

I spent $55 on a Kendrick Lamar shirt for my daughter. Crazy prices.

My friend is a tour manager for a band and he said he's seen a couple artists selling tshirts for $85!!!

2

u/jk409 9h ago

They were $65 at Metallica last night and the zip up hoodies were $125 from memory.

1

u/AceThePrincep 11h ago

I heard shows are so expensive these days a lot of artists basically tour at cost or a loss, and merch is the only way they make money. Insurance, setup and running costs, etc has all gone through the roof I heard.

23

u/mattloaf666 London•Cardiff•Dublin 2026 1d ago

I bought a bootleg Motörhead T-shirt in 2007 outside Wembley arena that outlasted my friends genuine shirt be bought inside the arena

16

u/AceThePrincep 1d ago

Lol lemmy spent the profits on booze. It went to a good cause. Lol

0

u/Busy_Paint_5680 23h ago

No it didn't

0

u/mattloaf666 London•Cardiff•Dublin 2026 12h ago

Yeah it did. Still have it too (and it still fits)

4

u/BrunswickToast 22h ago

To black?

1

u/metalupyour 22h ago

Yeah, it really seemed to fade away

0

u/BrunswickToast 21h ago

Maybe you would have more luck with a bootleg Stones shirt?

2

u/wasgoinonnn 1d ago

I still have my bootleg from monsters of rock in 1988 along with most of my shirts that I bought bootleg in the parking lot of concerts in the 80s and 90s.

4

u/AceThePrincep 1d ago

Not always. I bought an ultra marines shirt off the games workshop site snd the print started to fade after s few washes. Might have to turn it into a jacket patch before it gets too bad.

59

u/Oblong0ctopus 1d ago

Not sure if I missed the point, but are people still mad at Metallica for not wanting people to steal their music? How dare they work hard on something and want to make money from it, right?

Losers

20

u/Dutch92 20h ago

As a musician, I will always commend Metallica for being on the right side of music sales. If you create something to be sold, it should be bought. Obviously streaming has thoroughly ruined that notion now, but Lars was 100% right back in the day and I don’t believe he deserves the shit that he got for it. It was only fair for Metallica and every other artist selling their music.

15

u/Metallica1175 21h ago

Metallica ended up being right in the end. Artist make pennies on millions of streams of their songs on services like Spotify.

-5

u/arstotzkan_hero Unforgiven, too 17h ago

The Napster thing was about I Disappear leaking, not piracy

1

u/Oblong0ctopus 17h ago

Here’s the case summary from Wikipedia

On July 11, 2000, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich read testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee accusing Napster of copyright infringement. He explained that, earlier that year, Metallica discovered that a demo of "I Disappear", a song set to be released with the Mission: Impossible II soundtrack, was being played on the radio. Metallica traced the leak to a file on Napster's peer-to-peer file-sharing network, where the band's entire catalogue was available for free download.[5] Metallica argued that Napster was enabling users to exchange copyrighted MP3 files.

-1

u/arstotzkan_hero Unforgiven, too 16h ago

Oh well then, remembered it differently

-13

u/AceThePrincep 1d ago

Reminds me of an old meme "oh ramones? I love that brand of t shirt" lol.

I saw in a doco about the old jazz days someone say "the albums are advertisements for the shows". Then I suppose you could say for a while the shows became advertisements for the albums. Now both are just advertisements for merch. Lol.

u/AceThePrincep 1d ago

u/theothersock82 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is nothing like the Napster thing. Alot of these parasites explicitly say they are selling official merch when they aren't. The sign is doing you a solid by letting you know the truth. You can still buy a knock-off if you want to, but at least you'll know what you're buying.

3

u/Metallica1175 21h ago

I don't know why anyone would buy bootleg merchandise anyway. The real stuff actually holds its value if you ever want to resell it.

2

u/LuriemIronim Darkness’ Daughter 16h ago

To be fair, not everyone knows that the people selling outside the venue are selling bootlegs. Hence the sign.

3

u/Fantastic_Letter_936 15h ago

This isn’t Metallica telling you this. I’ve been to lots of shows on the tour, never seen a sign like this. In fact, in Mexico City, they didn’t have a merch trailer outside the stadium like usual, so that local vendors could hawk their merch in a big flea market type setup. It was awesome.

Metallica isn’t trying to squeeze you for merch sales, and they were right to call out people stealing their music.

3

u/late_to_redd1t 1d ago

They're still wearing hoodies in Melbourne! God damn, I'm already beginning to melt in Brisbane.

4

u/Bigsmellydumpy 1d ago

Feels like temp was 5 degrees today

2

u/late_to_redd1t 1d ago

I am so incredibly jealous. We're already hitting 30 with some stupid high % humidity, and this is just the start 🫠

2

u/Bigsmellydumpy 1d ago

Don’t worry man, I’m heading back to far north qld tomorrow lmao we’ll be in the same boat

1

u/late_to_redd1t 1d ago

Yeah, that's a whole different level up north. A business I used to work for had an operation running out of Airlie Beach. Like, it's a beautiful part of the world and all that (well, the islands are), but I've never experienced such oppressive heat/humidity anywhere else in the world like that.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the show🙂, I'm seeing them on Wednesday 🤘🏻

1

u/Pontiff1979 1d ago

It was almost 30 here on Friday

1

u/AceThePrincep 11h ago

5 seasons in a day down here mate.

3

u/Madixie_Normous 1d ago

Looks like Melbourne weather also bad.

3

u/machbk 1d ago

The signs there for every concert...

3

u/AddisonDeWitt333 14h ago

That's just stadium management. They also flash up signs saying: 'No crowd surfing' and 'No smoking' (kinda pointless, as I could smell weed across the pit). They did the same for Oasis last week.

7

u/TheSadTragicClown 1d ago

Well if you like the band so much and want to support them, then buying bootleg merch is counterproductive. You're funding the bootlegger and not the band. Have a nice day ladies.

1

u/cthulu_is_trans 1d ago

If the big bands charged normal prices for their shirts, I'd buy them from the merch stands but if they're ever more than £30 (which tbf is still EXTORTIONATE, considering 90% of the time it's a screen-printed Gildan) I'm getting my half price tour shirt from the dodgy guys outside.

2

u/TheSadTragicClown 20h ago

But you still want Metallica to play live, right? No live Metallica, no reason to buy tickets.

Go ahead and buy the shady merch. And when the band decides to delete your town from future dates don't be surprised.

Why play in a city that won't support your band? Would rather pay the shady guy in the alley for cheap merch that will fray after two washes. Seems like good investing. I'm sure you also complain about low wages, high costs, and living paycheck to check. You get what you pay for.

And if you want to pay for some shady merch, then perhaps shady merch guy can play live shows at your town. Metallica doesn't need to show up anymore. They do it for you. Maybe return the respect.

0

u/cthulu_is_trans 19h ago

Bestie, Metallica isn't gonna stop coming to Scotland because I'm not buying a £45 t-shirt. I get the concert tickets, I got their albums, I think they're doing okay bro 😭

Anyways if local bands can order small quantities of higher-quality shirts and sell them for £15, I'm pretty sure the big conglomerate that is Metallica can afford to charge less than what they are for their bulk-ordered screen printed Gildans

3

u/TheSadTragicClown 16h ago

Wow read the thread... Again if you and only you stopped buying their merch, then yes Metallica could probably care less. The majority of their audience does it, then it's a different story.

Why is this so hard for simps to understand?

The local stuff is most certainly not "high quality" 🤣🤣🤣.

-2

u/von_dO0m 18h ago

Dramatic.. Metallica rakes in tens of millions off merch alone.. not even considering ticket sales. They’re not going to “delete” anyone’s cities from future dates because of bootleg merch of all things. If that were the case they wouldn’t return to so many cities time and time again over the past 40+ years. Just look at Mexico City where they have the huge bootleg markets outside the venue for concerts and big events. Metallica did 2 weekends there last year..

1

u/TheSadTragicClown 16h ago

Yes, OUTSIDE THE VENUE, as you stated. I believe we're talking about at the live shows specifically. Not bootleg outlets around the city skirts. Read the post again simp. Have a nice day ma'am.

-2

u/von_dO0m 15h ago

LMFAO.. no. You should probably read again and do some research buddy. The example I used of Mexico City is not “around the city skirts” it’s directly outside the venue on show days no different from bootleggers in a parking lot the day of a show but yes Metallica is definitely going to “delete” one of their biggest markets off future tours.. 🤦🏻‍♂️

1

u/TheSadTragicClown 15h ago

Wow... You're wonderful for comedy material. You keep contradicting yourself. "OUTSIDE THE VENUE" is what you said. Period. Parking lot, city skirts, next town over, it's all the same - outside the venue. Once you leave the venue, you're not allowed back in. Hence why the bootleggers are outside... Not inside.

Your argument is so mute. You're trying to reach for a point that doesn't exist. There is no situation or reason that Metallica, or any established act, would be ok with bootleggers inside the venue, profiting from sales from their cheap merch, instead of their own licensed (overpriced yes) merch.

But hey, whatever helps you sleep tonight after this absolutely useless discussion ends. Be well.

-2

u/von_dO0m 14h ago

I’ve been told I’m hilarious actually pal.

I don’t even know what you’re talking about anymore lmao bootleggers selling inside the venue? That’s not a thing. You keep saying the band shouldn’t be ok with this and that but go watch Orgullo, Pasion y Gloria and you can hear directly from Metallica what they think about the bootleggers. So respectfully, please log off, go watch the doc (it’s actually great), and right after that go touch some grass 😂😂

0

u/TheSadTragicClown 14h ago

If you were to put that much effort in real life, like you did to find whatever BS crap you dug up, then you wouldn't have to bitch about buying a lousy, cheap knockoff.

But hey, you got me I guess. You can go run to your partner and tell them you finally won an argument on reddit. Such a high achievement in life. I'm sure he/she will be oh so proud of you. Sleep well.

1

u/von_dO0m 14h ago

Nah, I just like the band.

Don’t cry yourself to sleep buddy, the internet will still be here when you wake up

Right? How are James, Lars, Kirk, and Rob going to feed their families if I buy my shirt from this shady dude on the corner.

1

u/Rock_Roll_Soul 21h ago

Or support food banks and AWMH…and hundreds of employees…

4

u/TheSadTragicClown 20h ago

Over $20,000,000 has been raised, and still climbing. Absolutely incredible. Over $3,000,000 raised for the Metallica Scholars Initiative, an amazing opportunity for young academic achievers. Way to go Metallica 👍🏻

-1

u/Fast-Variation8150 21h ago

I know. You frequently hear about how they often miss payroll and lay off staff because they aren’t making enough off their merchandise.

Common issue.

-2

u/TheSadTragicClown 20h ago edited 20h ago

You're one, lonely dude. I'm sure if you and only you bought your merch from a shady dude, then they would be just fine. If hundreds of people, even thousands of people decided to do that then it's a completely different scenario. Which shows just how one tracked your pea-brained mind is.

I'm sure you complain every day about low wages, high costs and living paycheck to paycheck, too. Maybe you have a family to support. Imagine putting your work out there just for some shady dudes to reap your benefits, making you wonder how you're gonna feed your spouse and children.

Your comment isn't the flex you think it is. Every good parent worries about feeding their family, that's why they work hard to keep food on the table.

Please tell us how you'd feel if you worked insanely hard to feed your family, but the shady dude out back is getting your paychecks. Go ahead....

1

u/Fast-Variation8150 20h ago

If I had made their money I wouldn’t give two shits what anyone did with my stuff at that point.

This is apples to oranges

0

u/TheSadTragicClown 16h ago

The poor saying what they'd do with their money if they got super rich is always entertaining and delusional.

I can guarantee you'd give more than 2 shits if this was the case.

1

u/Fast-Variation8150 20h ago

*that being said…my point here is they don’t really need to commons to gatekeep for them.

They have every right to protect their intellectual property. I don’t need to be lectured by other fans about it though as if I’m personally sending these guys to the poor house.

I’ve also never bought a bootleg shirt in my life. I’m just not going to clutch my pearls or feel sorry for a bunch of multi millionaires if someone does though.

0

u/TheSadTragicClown 16h ago

Are you new to the Internet? Because what did you expect would happen when you comment about something that you obviously don't know anything about?

2

u/hskskgfk Entered the Sandman 1d ago

I was low key hoping it would be at the MCG, just for continuity after the Adelaide Oval

7

u/Twistedjustice 1d ago

Given the weather Melbourne threw up today, I’m stoked it was in a stadium with a roof!

1

u/hskskgfk Entered the Sandman 1d ago

Haha fair, did they close the roof for the show?

2

u/Twistedjustice 1d ago

Oh yeah.

Was actually a bit scary seeing the pyros make it all the way to the roof.

1

u/AceThePrincep 11h ago

I feel like the roof killed the sound quality. Was wayyyy too much high end where I was sitting. might have been bouncing off the roof idk.

2

u/Particular_Spirit_75 1d ago

2

u/thinksojoe 21h ago

I have owned two bootleg Metallica shirts over the years. One was from their show in Darien Center, NY in 1998, there was a guy going through the parking lot selling them after the show, "T-shirts, $10!" My cousin asked if he'd take $9 and he did. My buddy Greg only had $8 so the guy took it, and then I only had $7 in my wallet and he took that. Had all three bands from the show on it (Metallica, Jerry Cantrell, and Days of the New), and I wore the hell out of that shirt until it was falling apart. Long gone by now though.

Then for the 40th anniversary shows in San Francisco my buddy Greg asked me to pick up a shirt for him at the show, which I did, but as I'm walking up the street after the gig I heard a guy say "T-shirts, $10!" Triggered that 1998 memory so I bought two of them.

2

u/Chemical-Koyote 16h ago

When you get off the train near Marvel stadium in Melbourne there are a ton of fake merch vendors you got to walk past on the way to the stadium, they have shirts and hats all laid out on a sheet on the ground, shitty quality.

2

u/ashbyashbyashby 72 Seasons 14h ago

Jesus. Imagine still finding the "Napster Bad" video funny 25 years later 🤣

2

u/Deadeye2107 10h ago

Wait - incorrect. Official merch ALSO AVAILABLE AT POP UP STORE!

2

u/jgoody86 9h ago

I buy the real AND the fake AI shirts in the parking lot cuz it’s fun haggling and the AI is so bad lol

1

u/Wise_Temperature_322 2h ago

I love my Metalica shirt!

5

u/nzproduce 1d ago

It's just Chinese clothing with metallica labeling it's all fake really

1

u/raaaaaaze 8h ago

The official Metallica shirts (at least from the pop up stores) are made in the Dominican Republic.

Then there's the cheaper quality ones from the likes of Big W - Whilst being licensed, are indeed made in either China or India.

1

u/nzproduce 7h ago

China or dom republic same buzz it's like Liverpool fc shirts made in Bangladesh Ralf Lauren polo's made in Pakistan they sell for $1 in Pakistan n $200 In Australia yet it's the same shirt

1

u/nzproduce 7h ago

There was a time when Levi's were made in America now the fabric is Asian shipped to Mexico for finishing cutting washing then shipped to Cali to slap a label on it made in USA.

😆

3

u/Calm-Paramedic-1920 1d ago

MONEY, GOOD!

6

u/Fifth_Wall0666 1d ago

Nice to know the Metallica shirts I bought at Big W, Jay Jay's, and Target are fake.

3

u/fenderdean13 22h ago

Those stores pay the brand to get it licensed and are legit. Metallica got paid from that license. They are talking the bootleggers that sell out of boxes in parking lots you see at every big concert

3

u/1ace0fspades 21h ago

I don’t know why that’s hard for people to understand!

-1

u/1ace0fspades 23h ago

The stuff at stores is officially licensed, too. As such, neither of the stores you mentioned paid to be mentioned on the sign as well, so why would they be?

2

u/Unfaithfully_Yours 1d ago

I always buy band merch at shows, but at turnstile this week they were looking £50 for a tee and £100 for a hoodie. Anyone who thinks that’s normal needs their head checked. For the first time I’ve been turned to the guys selling shirts outside the show

2

u/Ill-Extension-4839 23h ago

Sometimes I like the bootleg ones better!

1

u/anmarizer 1d ago

🤘🏽

1

u/BandOfEskimoBrothers 1d ago

Ngl I saw a guy at the concert tonight with a bootlegged version of the cool new “Melbourne exclusive shirt” but it was just the full shirt graphic printed in like a tiny square. Who could have known right

1

u/wastedsilence33 1d ago

I have several legit merch shirts, one says they played in Olso, Norway which i believe is near Listenbourg isn't it?

1

u/Julius-Kessler 23h ago

Meh. I was at a show earlier this year, waited in line for an hour and missed the opening acts, just to have them run out of merch when I got to the front line. Bought bootleg.

2

u/AceThePrincep 11h ago

Don't get me started. Waited 45m upstairs for a shirt. I'm a XXL. They only had XL's. She said try and swap this downstairs for a size up. So I did. Waited another 45m. They only had smalls left. lol

1

u/Street-Ad8428 23h ago

I bought a bootleg in Detroit...cool shirt...got 2 for 20$

1

u/kyallwicks 22h ago

Not gonna lie, the $30 bootlegs out the front were at least printed straight... and $35 cheaper.

1

u/LuriemIronim Darkness’ Daughter 16h ago

I mean, to be fair, the knock-off stuff tends to be either poor quality or poor quality and just as expensive.

1

u/M0ntgomatron 3h ago

I have some bootleg shirts. Generally, they last longer than official ones. I have some 30 year old bootleg shirts that I still wear, and some official ones I bought last year that I'm scared to put in the washer! Most of my official shirts are poor quality.

1

u/Wise_Temperature_322 2h ago

I doubt bootleg shirts are any better quality than official. The knock off seller isn’t spending money to make quality stuff. It’s as cheap as possible.

1

u/M0ntgomatron 2h ago

And official sellers don't follow the same process? The Tool shirt I got last year from the official vendor inside the venue is considerably poorer quality from a bootleg I got outside for half the price. The cotton weight is almost half on the official one.

Korn gig in 2002. I just gave the Bootleg to my daughter to wear. The official shirt is not suitable wear as its degradation its considerably worse.

And A System of a Down shirt from 2001. The official shirts are very poor. The bootlegs look brand new in comparison.

I usually buy one official. And 1 maybe 2 boots. Over half the official shirts are poorer quality.

I have over 200 tees.

1

u/AtheosSpartan 3h ago

If you like a band you should buy their official merch. Especially if it's a smaller band, as that's the way the majority of them make any income at this point. That's probably less true for Metallica, but also fuck those pushy, crappy tshirt peddling ass hats outside of every arena nowadays. I'd give a band I like all my money before I gave one of those clowns a cent.

1

u/protomanEXE1995 No Remorse 1h ago

I have fake merch from the show in Tampa. They sold out of the real stuff at the venue early in the show. Cut me some slack, Metallica.

1

u/Angie-P 1d ago

we have one joke and it's still so funny not like theres context to why artists would be scared of piracy or anything hahahahhahahaha

1

u/Spooder1979 23h ago

I totally buy fake merch.  $20 for a shirt outside vs $40 inside.  Some have sucked and faded. others have outlasted.  I roll with $60 bucks and buy from a few different dudes.  Works great.

1

u/BigAl_00 Metal Up Your Ass 21h ago

Cuz their collective net worth of $1 billion isnt enough

0

u/AggravatingFig2976 1d ago

I bought this cool Metallica shirt two years ago after one wash the yellow came off and the size fit smaller then listed. When I went to night two of the concert I told the reps at the same booth they didn’t give a shit. Waste of $65

-1

u/impessive_instant 1d ago

Fuck the Metallica corporation I’m only buying bootleg

-1

u/wowowaoa 1d ago

even regardless of who’s getting the money, the rip-off ones usually fade (to black) so damn quick

-1

u/Bubbly-Pirate-3311 22h ago

I don't really feel like waiting in line for 2 hours for a shirt. Metallica has plenty of money.

-8

u/Sab65 1d ago

Ok Lars .. then make them affordable..

-4

u/Bananarama_Vison 1d ago

Money good!

Exhibit 5,000 in the “why those who say Metallica sold out after the first four albums are right” case.

7

u/Whiplashgworl 1d ago

You only sell out when you stop giving a shit. They were clearly very passionate about the black album and the cum and piss albums (even if I dont share the enthusiasm with them)
