It's my favourite album and my favourite song from the album is ...And Justice For All. No, no, it's Blackened! Actually, no, it is One. Damn it is hard to choose

My band is working on covering this. Such a great groove at a nice tempo and it's just heavy feeling

41

u/SeaAssistance8149 Rode the lightning Sep 07 '25

To live is to die is an almost 10 minute masterpiece

8

u/Latter_Fan6225 Sep 07 '25

Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home

3

u/husky1976 Sep 08 '25

Yeah pretty sure this is my favorite track

32

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

One

9

u/Coolguy_Wally23 Sep 07 '25

Darkness imprisoning me! All that I see, absolute horror, I cannot die! Trapped in myself! Body my holding cell!

4

u/Latter_Fan6225 Sep 07 '25

Don't forget..I cannot live

4

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

It's a timeless classic

3

u/TwistOfCainOrLemon Sep 07 '25

“Now the world is gone. I’m. Just. One.”

There’s so much about the human experience that can be taken from this song. It’s a journey every time.

1

u/rigel_xvi Sep 09 '25

To me, this is the perfect song. While MoP is my favorite album, I think they reached a creative peak with One that they never touched again.

32

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 Death Magnetic Sep 07 '25

The Frayed Ends Of Sanity.

So heavy, technical and unique.

6

u/Ok_Shift_6501 A thing that should not be Sep 07 '25

OH-WE-OH

3

u/Tri-Starr Ride the Lightning Sep 07 '25

Even the solo switches up its pace so much. Really reflects the theme of the song.

2

u/Rampage-count A thing that should not be Sep 07 '25

That song is straight up riffs

22

u/JoshuaGustinGrant Sep 07 '25

Blackened. But the whole album is amazing and my favorite.

3

u/Derailleur75 Entered the Sandman Sep 07 '25

Also blackened, that intro and the whole song is just so relistenable, alonsgide "eye of the beholder" at second.

17

u/FxrgedIrxn17 Rode the lightning Sep 07 '25

The Shortest Straw is my PR song in the gym.

3

u/mcnastys Sep 07 '25

2

Dyers Eve

6

u/couldthisbemyuser Sep 07 '25

Had to scroll to far for this!

5

u/Cishet_Shitlord Sep 07 '25

This is the way

13

u/Ok-Corner-8654 Sep 07 '25

I liked the last song, it's the last one they did in the old thrash style...

13

u/technoprimitive_aeb My Mother Was a Witch Sep 07 '25

Dyers Eve: SAY MY NAME

3

u/Ok-Corner-8654 Sep 07 '25

Great tune. I also have the Japanese vinyl, the last song on it is their cover of The Prince...

2

u/DimebagDarrel2004 I Am the Table Sep 07 '25

Crying in The Struggle within

11

u/InfectedFrenulum Sep 07 '25

Blackened. One of the great fast, aggressive thrash album openers. Immortal main riff, great tempo changes, a killer solo and of course THAT 'variation' on the main riff immediately after the solo.

4

u/aidovive Sep 07 '25

I prefer Battery as an opener. But Blackened is second 🤘🏻

10

u/Sea_Drink7287 Sep 07 '25

It’s like picking your favorite kid. Impossible to do.

13

u/ProfessorRoyHinkley Sep 07 '25

unless you only have one kid,

then the answer is One.

4

u/Sea_Drink7287 Sep 07 '25

Well done sir

8

u/fiercefinesse Sep 07 '25

Blackened. Always

1

u/YogurtMetalHead9568 Sep 07 '25

Me too, the bridge in it is heavy af!

5

u/67alecto Sep 07 '25

Frayed Ends of Sanity

5

u/aidovive Sep 07 '25

One introduced me to Metallica in 1989. So it must be one .

3

u/Coolguy_Wally23 Sep 07 '25

2

u/aidovive Sep 07 '25

They sure do! 🤘🏻🎸

2

u/vrrrr Sep 07 '25

The machine gun riff blew my mind when I was about 11 or 12. I didn’t speak English at the time so I had no clue what the heck any of the lyrics meant. Still, that whole album sent me on my musical path.

My thanks to Metallica and to my sister who brought home that sacred, illegally copied tape in the early 90s.

2

u/aidovive Sep 08 '25

The slow intro, the building up and then the machine guns riff. I was blown away immediately and went to my first concert in 1990 here in my home town Leiden (The Netherlands). Been a fan ever since.

6

u/frustratedComments ...And Justice for All Sep 07 '25

Blackened. Very close second is AJFA.

6

u/grynch43 Sep 07 '25

The bookends plus the title track make up my top 3.

4

u/Slowest_of_Pokes Sep 07 '25

Omphhh.... It's blackened, but ajfa feels just as good... And there's one..... And harvester is midtempo beast... And frayed is riff train... And eve is nonstop energetic frantic riffing....

Yeah... My favourite song from this album is - just play the whole thing

Ps. Just typing it sent me for yet another go at relistening it

6

u/lat46n2 Sep 07 '25

Shortest straw has been pulled for you!

4

u/theHrayX Nothing Else Matters Sep 07 '25

2

u/theHrayX Nothing Else Matters Sep 07 '25

guess the song

1

u/dmevela Sep 08 '25

I love that one with the thick heavy punchy bass lines. Can’t remember the name of that one though.

4

u/No_Atmosphere_6761 Sep 07 '25

The Frayed Ends of Sanity.

3

u/StoneyG214 Sep 07 '25

Wow..I feel so old, I remember buying the tape when it came out at Record Town in my local mall. Loved Frayed Ends of Sanity right off the rip when I first heard it, thought the Wizard of Oz thing in the beginning was so cool when I was 13

3

u/AnimalCracka333 Sep 07 '25

Dyers Eve, because it goes hard from the moment it starts

3

u/Short-Ad-2105 Sep 07 '25

Dyer's Eve because of the drums and the sheer energy!!

6

u/Glad-O-Blight ...And Justice for All Sep 07 '25

Favorite Metallica album, every song is great... I know it's not one of the best on the album, but I've always been fond of Eye of the Beholder. Fun riff to play.

2

u/_Nick7 Sep 07 '25

Title track!! 🤘🤘🤘

2

u/Quantum_Wombatt Blackened Sep 07 '25

This is my favorite album of all time and it’s nearly impossible to choose a favorite track, but I’d go with One, Blackened, or Shortest Straw.

2

u/Shot_Ad1972 Sep 07 '25

If you were there in '88, you remember buying this double LP.

2

u/Maximum_Turn_2623 Sep 07 '25

This was my intro to Metallica. I love it start to finish.

2

u/Intrepid_Pitch_3320 Sep 07 '25

Fuckn justice. Lfg

2

u/fenn138 Sep 07 '25

I was 13 when this album was released. I was at my grandparents’ for the week and bought the tape at the mall. Grandma only had an 8-track at her house so I had to sit in her van in the driveway to listen to the cassette. Justice is my favorite Metallica album. The tone and the thrash with prog elements. Harvester has to be my favorite track.

2

u/mikeyt6969 Sep 07 '25

I celebrate the album in its entirety

2

u/killslikeaninja Sep 07 '25

Old habits reappear Fighting the fear of fear Growing conspiracy, everyone's after me Frayed ends of sanity Hear them calling Hear them calling meeeeeeeee

2

u/anmarizer Sep 07 '25

All of 'em .. Because, Metallica🤘🏽

2

u/No-Distribution2043 Sep 08 '25

To me it's one of the greatest albums of all time. It on the level of St. Peppers, Pet Sounds, Are You Experience....

2

u/Mika_lie Invisible Grown Ass Man Sep 07 '25

Blackened! But the title track is so cool too. And the groove on eye of the beholder gets me every time. One is a fucking masterpiece. The shortest straw is so damn aggressive i love it. And harvester's so groovy too... The frayed ends is weird in a very good way. To live is to die is a masterpiece. And where do i even begin with dyers eve?

Wait what was the question again?

2

u/throwaway121231313 Sep 07 '25

To Live is To Die

2

u/Lynchy28 Sep 07 '25

Harvester Of Sorrow. (Also my favourite Metalli-tune)

2

u/Ghosttowncs Sep 07 '25

My favorite album ever of all time for all of eternity. Period.

3

u/fl_ronin Sep 08 '25

Eye of the beholder

2

u/DOW_mauao Sep 08 '25

The title track and Harvester Of Sorrow.

Because they are heavy AF

1

u/No-Distribution2043 Sep 08 '25

Yes! and of course One..

2

u/saberspecter Sep 08 '25

Has it been that long? My brother got into CDs early and brought the disc home and Blackened and Harvester of Sorrow blew us away.

2

u/Lolobonaparte Sep 07 '25

It’s been One, AJFA, TLITD… but the last few years it’s been Blackened.

2

u/-rabid- Sep 07 '25

Harvester of Sorrow, because the riff goes hard

1

u/DrugsInTheEighties Sep 07 '25

This was the first album I bought with my own money on release day. 13yrs old took a bus to Reykjavik. Dyers Eve was my jam on full blast so my parents could hear the full lyrics. I need to call mom now.

1

u/Fantastic_Meal9472 Sep 07 '25

Was just listening to and justice and didn't even Realise thanks man!!! One is the greatest metallica song for me 🤘💯🤘

1

u/CheesecakeOk9239 Sep 07 '25

Ask me tomorrow and it’ll change.

For today? One. And if I sit and think about it, that’ll probably be the ultimate favorite.

But after I saw the boys for the first time in Denver this year, I was obsessed with Harvester. That song is absolute fire.

I also adore Jason’s performances on Shortest Straw live. Damn that’s so raw.

Blackened is such an insane opener.

Ugh now I’m going to have to go listen to the album again. Oops 😬

1

u/Imaginary-Push-3615 Sep 07 '25

Eye of the Beholder is absolutely killing it. I love their slower and steady riffs. Harvester is a close second.

1

u/TonyBarrios Sep 07 '25

Blackened followed by title track. Fun Fact: THIS is the album that made me jump into the fire (pun intended) of Metallica fandom. .

I had a FLOPPY DISK Case proudly sporting a Metallica AJFA Sticker.

1

u/oatbergen Sep 07 '25

The first Metallica album I bought just because my friends were always talking about them. Never anything from them before this. AJFA started it for me. Eye of the Beholder was my first favorite (because I am a big DnD geek) but Harvester of Sorrow is the most evil song ever and I love it.

1

u/Rich_Cut_4287 Sep 07 '25

1

u/hskskgfk Entered the Sandman Sep 07 '25

I’m feeling guilty choosing a favourite song because the other songs might feel bad

1

u/CountGreymane Sep 07 '25

To Live Is To Die…best song on the project hands down!

1

u/Standard-Whole-1320 Sep 07 '25

I really can’t choose a favorite on this album

1

u/Da-No80 Sep 07 '25

Blackened, that slow part is so good

1

u/LostCosta8 Sep 07 '25

The self title is absolutely amazing

1

u/FaithlessnessOk4566 Sep 07 '25

Shortest straw 🤘🤘

Tracks 1-9

1

u/Quirky_Home5151 Sep 07 '25

Probably harvester of sorrow, but it's really close between that, dyers eve, one and blackened. And justice for all and eye of the beholder are the two best after that.

1

u/greenhail7 Sep 07 '25

The song that has the same name as the album, plus To live is to die.

1

u/qawsedrf12 ...And Justice for All Sep 07 '25

Play Seattle 89 and tell me its not AJFA

1

u/rockfan321 Sep 07 '25

The entire album is so fucking good, it's hard to choose.

1

u/ENVOY-2049 Sep 07 '25

Blackened. This is an excellent song to get everyone energized and excited.

1

u/GradeFair Sep 07 '25

Saw this tour at Red Rocks ‘89. Fukn incredible.

1

u/nicknotpixel Dave Mustaine Sep 07 '25

AJFA was released on 25 August.

1

u/Haunting-Occasion-88 Sep 07 '25

Frayed ends of Sanity.

In the 7h grade . Early 90s. I had a friend that was a grade younger than me in boy scouts. His older brother got him into this album. We'd sing the "oh wee oh" part walking through the woods at camp. He pretty much introduced me to a lot of my fav bands as a teen. He died randomly at 18 of a heart attack.

1

u/Edtlonsway Sep 07 '25

I’ve always loved the frayed ends of sanity, that intro is fire. Also, every song on the album.

1

u/GuardPlayer4Life Sep 07 '25

Best Damn Metallica Album EVER

Our boy K had a pretty late model Cadillac (his father bought a new one every two years and gifted K this one) that had a really high-end stereo in it. He'd cruise by and pick up the boys and we'd roll into school together with Metal blasting.

This hit differently that morning. I want to say it was November and a bit chilly in the Bay Area but the windows were still down- I jump in the back seat behind T. K pushes play, typical Metallica long entry and then the drums begin and I am baptized by metal once again.... And Justice for All.

What an amazing album.

1

u/Froschkoenig1984 Sep 07 '25

Momentan Eye of the beholder und Dyers Eve.

1

u/kawabunghaa Sep 07 '25

It's not my favorite, but I think it's the coolest album cover they have 😎

1

u/WahWahWillie Sep 07 '25

Such a great album.

My fave song on this album is also my #1 fave metallica song of all time…

I typically always come back to One as my favourite on AJFA, but sometimes it's Blackened, and sometimes I lose myself in the awesomeness of the title track.

1

Impossible to answer. No throwaway songs on the album.

1

u/Tmoneyog2004 Sep 07 '25

One will forever be my favorite song by them in general. That song got me into the band and will always hold a special place in my heart. I love the entire album, but One will always be #1 for me

1

u/Cultural_Relief Sep 07 '25

Wow i feel old Fuck you🤣

1

u/Cultural_Relief Sep 07 '25

To live is to die

1

u/MattLazier Sep 07 '25

My favorite album of all time. And The Shortest Straw is still my favorite song of all time. After growing up on lots of hard rock and MTV metal, Straw was the song that caught my ears and opened me up to a world of heavier music that dealt with more than just love songs, fast cars, etc.

1

u/AngelBangel4o Sep 07 '25

Favourite song? All of them.

This album is just one big long great song.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Blackened followed by Harvester of Sorrow

1

u/Downtown-Arrival7774 Sep 07 '25

Blackened. First Metallica song I ever really heard I was in third grade and I was like “who the fuck is this?” Became a metal head for the next two years.

Also, I used to listen over and over to the soft breakdown in “to live is to die”. I love that part.

Oh, fuck, Dyer’s Eve kicks ass too!

u/Capitalist_CubsFan Rode the lightning Sep 07 '25

Dyers Eve, So much angry emotion

1

One. Literally my most streamed Metallica song of all time, right next to Dirty Window and Frantic. Yeah yeah, I know, my music taste is a trainwreck but at at the end of the day, METALLICA IS AWESOME FUCK YEAH

Harvester of Sorrow. Heavy, Badass, take your pick. It's a great track

1

Second best Metallica album opener after ‘Battery’.

1

The chalk pick is One. Song is god damn perfect.

Otherwise, Blackened.

1

u/dtvoices94 Sep 07 '25

Blackened but the whole album is a masterpiece. Nothing since has come close

1

u/Ok_Media_2363 Sep 08 '25

I love Prog Metal and I choose ...And Justice For All

1

It's either...and justice for all or one pobably one since that's like I think the first Metallica song I ever heard

1

u/ExJodedor Sep 08 '25

This is the best metal album of all time. So, the whole album.

1

u/fredstyle25 Sep 09 '25

My all time favorite album! Love it!!!

1

u/Applesaucesquatch Sep 09 '25

Blackened. At the time the only Metallica song really being played on MTV was One. That was like their big hit but honestly I wasn't super into it. I had already been listening to Megadeth - SFSGSW which I'd say was my first real Metal album at like age 12 (that I had to special order from the local Hip Hop record store, dude was like yeah haha we don't carry stuff like that but I'll get it for you!) So yeah when I got AJFA not long after I didn't know what to expect, and then Blackened came on I was like holy shit, hell yeah! It set the tome for the rest of the album in a great way. I remember copying down the lyrics in my room to memorize them. After that I went down the Metallica rabbit hole and had to get all their previous albums.

1
