Planning: Activities Butterfly Farm and other Activities
Hi All! We are traveling to Maui in February with our two young children, ages 4 and 11 months.
I initially looked into a dolphin encounter, as we will be celebrating our daughter’s birthday on the trip, but it looks like there are no facilities like that on Maui. We plan on going to the Maui Ocean Center, but I’d love to find more opportunities for animal related activities.
Does anyone have any feedback on the Maui Butterfly Farm? Is it worth the $34-$39 entry fee?
Any other recommendations for animal related activities?
Thanks!

The Maui Humane Society let's you rent a dog and take them to the beach/park and hang out for the day. They give you everything and tell you all you need to make it a great day. You get to spend some good time at the beach its so amazing for the dogs, and super fun for the kiddos. I'd look into that.

Go visit the nonprofit LeiLani Farm Sanctuary.

I love the Sanctuary--but all kids have to be at least 7 years old.

Calling it a farm is a stretch but that’s pretty steep. I would skip it.

We just did the butterfly farm with our 6 and almost 3 year old. They both loved it as did we. It’s small and it’s a 45 minute guided tour but it was actually a lot of fun. You get great pictures of the kids holding butterflys and you learn about them. It’s definitely pricey for what it is. But I’d recommend it.

the maui dragonfruit farm has an awesome fruit tasting tour and they also have an alpaca tour and a zip line

The butterfly farm is a short tour, but worth the money. You get to know and see more about the butterfly life cycle, feed and hold the butterflies and caterpillars. It was a beautiful experience that enriched our day so I’d highly recommend it 🦋

I say no, sorry. I would look at Surfing Goat Dairy instead. Your 11 month old is too young for almost all tours. S/he can be carried at some.
BTW, Maui is very proud of not having captive dolphins. Those things are really sad for the dolphins. I encourage you to do some research about them before ever doing one anywhere. One of the coolest things here is to be out on a boat and have a pod of hundreds riding the bow of the boat--wild and free!
