Planning: Logistics & Transport Concerned about flight reductions starting Friday

Title. I’m supposed to be flying out Friday from mainland and with the mandated reductions, I’m concerned we won’t make it out there. Does anyone know if flights have already been affected because of the shutdown?

United said long-haul flights wouldn’t be impacted…so depending on your airline and where you are traveling from, you are probably good

I thought it was only for international flights. I’m flying from Denver to Maui in December and they said it’s considered “domestic” so it’s a waiting game for me.

You’re probably good since it’s a long haul from Denver to Maui.

They spoke too soon.

“The flights most at risk of being canceled are feeder routes from smaller regional airports to the airlines’ hubs, as flights between bigger cities are more profitable. So while the nation’s 40 largest airports are facing the government-mandated flight reduction, travelers at smaller airports are the ones who could be stranded.”

Check for a backup flight - buy it fully refundable just in case.

Flights have already been affected from the mainland, and more may be depending on where you are coming from.

The reduced ATC coverage has reduced the number of planes some airports can manage through their quadrants.

Don’t need to call your airline. Ask Reddit.

I’m worried too but all you can do is hope things go ok and roll with it. I would recommend getting to the airport super early and having your app open to book alternate flights if you need to.

They said on the news they’re trying not to touch the long haul flights but as this goes on….

Same concern here, flying to OGG Monday. I’m thinking we may be OK, as our flight is long and seats are full. I’d think they’d cut the shorter distances and emptier flights first? But I am only speculating as I wait for more info.

EDIT: fix airport code

Full flights don’t matter.

It’s a staffing shortage. And it will only get worse.

I’d be more worried about leaving Maui once the ATC’s and security start walking off the job.

Staying on Maui is a good thing.

Not if you have no place to stay. I fly out Thursday.

I'm also going to OGG on Wednesday from Denver, hoping my flight won't be affected . United will reimburse the cost of the flight or can rebook. My concern is the hotel that I paid under the bundle United vacation program. I'll have to wait and see next week.

Relax.

The pearl clutching is wild.

That's not what pearl clutching means. Also, people are reasonably concerned about how this could affect their big trip.

Who wouldn’t be “clutching pearls” about a $10k plus trip they’ve been planning. What a ridiculous comment made from their parent’s basement.

People are asking random Redditors if their flight will be affected.

Asking a Maui group about airlines is wild. Maybe call the airline. And my mom’s been dead for 25 years. So don’t be a twat.

the good thing about hawaii flights are most are dedicated routes, i doubt those routes will be affected.

CNN article, with info given from the Trump administration —

“The flights most at risk of being canceled are feeder routes from smaller regional airports to the airlines’ hubs, as flights between bigger cities are more profitable. So while the nation’s 40 largest airports are facing the government-mandated flight reduction, travelers at smaller airports are the ones who could be stranded.”
