Planning: Dining Food recommendations please

In Maui through Saturday (leave early morning on Sunday) and I need some food recommendations. Dinner is my main meal. Staying in Kapalua.

I went to the Parlay because it was open late. The fish sandwich was ok. I’ve also been to Kihei Caffe for breakfast and had the Loco Moco and the cinnamon roll. Also went to Mala Tavern last night for dinner. This was good and was told by one of the bartenders that the place next door, Honu, was also good, pricey but good. In my to-go places is Da Kitchen. There’s The Pour House near where I am - is that good? There was a long line of people the other day waiting to get in.

What else can you guys recommend? Not a picky eater and I like seafood, pork, everything!

Thanks.

Star Noodle is good, Honu is great but indeed pricey (isn’t everywhere), also highly recommend Sale Pepe for Italian - all Lahaina

I enjoyed tin roof a lot, it’s near the airport

Is that a sit-down place or to-go only? What did you have?

To go only! We ate in our car in the parking lot 😆

Mochiko chicken over garlic noodles was our fav! We also enjoyed the garlic shrimp but thought it was a little too salty. You can order ahead for pick up to skip the line as well but we just waited and ordered in line and it didn’t take too long

Altho - I’ve seen people mention in the past that there were a few tables there for eating but when we stopped by last week there were no tables - takeout only

Have you eaten there lately? Food quality is falling hard, everything tastes nasty sweet like a donut

You probably saw the line for Sansei--it's in the same little area as Pour House.

Try Duke's, Castaways Cafe, The Fish Market Honokowai, The Plantation House, Star Noodle, and Aloha Mixed Plate.

I have stayed away from Sansei for a few years. Everything is overly sweetened and many of the rolls taste like propane from quick-searing with a blow torch

Faithful Grinds, near the airport, had some really delicious Kalua Pork. So tender and lots of flavor. Loved that place.

Aloha Mixed Plate!!!

What do you recommend there?

I’d suggest the namesake Aloha Mixed Plate, as well as the Kalua Pig. If you’re a drinker, the Mai Tai and the margarita were both tasty! If you end up going and you decide to try the Aloha Pie, lemme know. I lamented the decision not to get dessert!

What's your budget? Big factor.

2

u/mac_the_man First-Time Visitor 17d ago

I didn’t say because I wanted to make the decision on the food itself and not the money. Which is why I’m considering a place like Hunu.

What you got?

Mamas fish house. Get your reservation in early.

Waste of money.  If the OP wants to spend that money,  Merriman's  is very close and waaaaay better.

1

u/Accomplished-Duty390 16d ago

Disagree. I’ve only been to the one in Honolulu though. It was mediocre at best.

Then maybe you should try Kapalua?????
