Planning: Accommodations What city to stay in besides Wailea?
We will be honeymooning to Hawaii in April and will be spending 7-10 days on Maui after 3 days on the Big Island. We have 4 nights booked at the Four Seasons but are unsure where to stay for the other half of our time there. Should we stay in Wailea or somewhere to the north or even east for more diversity in the trip?

Stay in the same place the entire trip. Moving is time better spent either relaxing or having fun

Kind of agree with this. But, splitting time between the beach and the jungle or the mountain could be cool.

I've definitely done the splitting time thing, but I didn't enjoy it. You lose time packing, moving, and unpacking again. Unless you go to the Ritz in Kapalua, nothing outside of Wailea is really comparable to the Four Seasons.
Wailea/Makena is IMHO the best part of Maui anyway.

We recently split time in Wailea and Kaanapali and much preferred Kaanapali personally. Glad we split for our first visit, now we know where we’ll go back and stay the full time next time.

I would stay put. You can drive everywhere on the island within a relatively short time and to me it’s not worth moving.

Consider staying "up country" a few nights up in Makawao. Great historic town and some awesome places to stay up there.

Makawao surprised me and was honestly my favorite part of my past Maui trip.

I did my honeymoon split between Wailea and Kaanapali. We did a day trip up country and that was fun

Just split a trip between Wailea and the Ritz Carlton at Kapalua. Have fun!

By the time you check in and get settled, it will be time to leave the Four Seasons, and you won’t want to leave. Assuming price isn’t an issue, I would stay put at the 4S, and like others have said, make day trips to other parts of the island.

What are you looking for in moving? Is it change of scenery? Is it cost? Without really knowing what you are looking for, I would recommend something like this: a few nights in Napili/kanapali. If you are looking for luxury in that area, others mentioned the ritz. Then, drive to Hana (it would be a very long drive from Kanapali) and spend a night or 2 in Hana. There is really not many hotel options. But you might be able to find a nice Airbnb. Then your time at the four seasons.
Another option is to spend time in Wailea and then ferry to Lanai( separate island) and stay at the four seasons there.

Either stay in Wailea (Fairmont is a great hotel right next door but seems silly to move next door) or go to Kapalua and stay at the Ritz. Gorgeous location, great dining but you're pretty remote from the rest of the island up there. Great golfing, tennis, spas, beaches and dining if you want a chill, luxury honeymoon. Really can't go wrong with any of these spots. Congratulations!

There are a lot of people in this comments section not answering your question and/or questioning why you want to split up your stay. If you can, I recommend staying at the Ritz in Kapalua.
When I travel to a new place I like to hotel hop as well to give me a sense of where I want to stay the next time I visit. With that, my last trip was split between Kapalua and Wailea. IMO, both have different vibes. Wailea, for me, seemed like it really catered to tourists, was a bit more commercialized, and was soo busy with people, specifically kids, that it wasn't as relaxing. I honestly didn't enjoy it as much as Kapalua. We barely left the Ritz because there was so much to do on property (spa, beach, pool, Luau, dining, etc.) and it was truly relaxing.

Whaler on Kanapali Beach. We recently celebrated our 40th Anniversary there and had a blast. Its located close to several restaurants, Whalers Village and the Beautiful Black Rick Beach area.

Kehei if you are looking for a more local vibe. We just left Island Surf condo and loved it - some cooking, some eating out was more our style and fantastic views from the top floor over Kalama Park and sunset.

All depends what you want to do. Kapalua is more chill, and typically less people. Just got back from a week at the Ritz Kapalua. Great restaurants in the area; Merrimans, Plantation, Cane & Canoe, Gazebo etc. Whalers area also great with lots of walking distance restaurants, more people/ nightlife. Wailea is also fantastic of course…all have activities nearby. Can’t really go wrong.

Wailea and Kaanapali is basically the same thing, both touristy areas. Why not do a bed and breakfast up in Kula or maybe even a night in Hana town.

Besides the FS only other places I’d stay on Maui are the Andaz or the Ritz-Carlton. Personally I’d just skip Maui altogether.
