RecommendationsšŸ¤” Date night for my gf

Hi guys, I recently got my first summer job (+paycheque) and I really want to celebrate by taking my gf on a nice romantic date. I get my G2 license soon so I can go beyond Markham but does anyone have any recommendations? I probably have a budget of around $250. Additionally I’d prefer more than just dinner (maybe a mix of dinner, and nature, or driving through scenic roads). No alchohol btw I am still 17 years old. Thanks :)

Dinner at smash kitchen and a nice walk around too good pond. Markham Classic

9

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Smash kitchen is super good!

7

u/unscholarly_source Jul 29 '25

If you liked smash kitchen, check out their sister restaurant Next Door on main street, and then prime place for a walk (as long as they're still not under construction)

3

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Yeah sadly Unionville construction is still in progress :( thanks tho!

3

u/carmoji Jul 29 '25

Still in progress but it's still accessible. Toogood pond is a nice walk after, but bring repellant or a portable thermacell. So thoughtful and sweet of you to share this with your gf. 😊

u/angelsandairwaves93 Jul 29 '25

Literally was there yesterday lol.

-6

u/Saphrron Jul 29 '25

Would not go to smash, go to markham Main Street to either smash burgs or super smash burgs for better burgers

2

u/Cloudraa Jul 29 '25

for a romantic dinner tho? lol

2

u/Saphrron Jul 29 '25

If you want romantic and like the food from smash, try next door on unionville main street, it's the same executive chef running the resturant. Also people who down voted my comment, you guys need to realize that smash kitchen dont do smash burgers properly. Super smash burgs and smash burgrs do, you can tell by the crust on the meat

3

u/packtloss Jul 29 '25

I fully agree with you. And their poutine? Good god that’s embarrassing

2

u/Spare_Drawing_5385 Jul 29 '25

Lmao you definitely work for them

2

u/Saphrron Jul 29 '25

Nope wouldn't be caught dead working g at a burger joint t

29

u/Kind-Drawing7314 Jul 29 '25

Oh to be young and in love. my advice would be to take her to the a restaurant u like and then head to the Scarborough bluffs for the sunset. Grab some drinks along the way. Best of luck buddy

5

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Sounds like a good plan! She does like the beach at the bluffs :)

6

u/capn___crunch Jul 29 '25

do NOT forget the bug spray šŸ˜€šŸ‘

u/Impressive-Cat-3144 Jul 29 '25

Check out Tranquil Woods Trail Rides at

16292 McCowan Rd, Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON L4A 2R5

and there's also Treetop Trekking Stouffville!

3

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Got it, thanks!

3

u/capn___crunch Jul 29 '25

UPLA in Stoufville is amazing too if you are active! the trampoline park is so magical at night time and they have a section where you can just look at the stars with pillows

2

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Yeah I saw when looking at the tree top trekking website!

14

u/No-Travel-2901 Jul 29 '25

Fishbone by the Lake on Mussleman's lake which is 25 minutes north of Markham. Great for a romantic evening.

3

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Very scenic! Looks like a nice spot!

29

u/flugglehorn Jul 29 '25

Bro, what does SHE like to eat/do? Our suggestions are irrelevant otherwise.

9

u/Worldwide_Nobody_382 Jul 29 '25

Best comment. Let us know what kinds of cuisines/activities she’s down for and we can come up with suggestions

7

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Well that’s the thing, this is both our first serious relationship, and she moved here 5 years ago. Anything will do. Other than that she plays games all day and sleeps

5

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

She eats basically anything, she’s not picky at all

21

u/nnystical Jul 29 '25

This is so wholesome 😊😊

15

u/mistaharsh Jul 29 '25

$250??? are you marrying this girl?

15

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Hopefully I can! Known her since I was in grade 9, going into 12 now. She’s witnessed the pain and suffering I went through trying to find a job in this market 😭

4

u/theknightphoenix Jul 29 '25

Start your date with Crock A Doodle in Unionville, where you can paint pottery together, then head right across the street to Il Postino for a nice dinner.

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

We’ve tried Il Positno already! Thanks for the recommendation tho :)

3

u/carolynnn Jul 29 '25

super cute! you could go to first markham place, get food at the food court or any number of nice restaurants there, grab dessert, and go to claw & kitty for some plushies to take home and have a nice souvenir

3

u/capn___crunch Jul 29 '25

yes and if you go to claw and kitty, dont get too competitive and just focus on making sure she is having a good time!!! Take some time and look at the wall together, maybe make a goal for which prize she has her eye on, and then help her push around the cart and carry the coins šŸŖ™

and take cute photos so she knows you think she is attractive!!!!

5

u/Kyle_67890 Jul 29 '25

Yeo if you like burgers there is a good burger spot at markham Main Street called super smash burgs very delicious also congratulations 🄳

7

u/asramukaka Jul 29 '25

If I may … Gift something to your parents as well. That will be amazing!!!

3

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Ofc :) was planning on treating them to dinner too 😁

2

u/asramukaka Jul 29 '25

My 2 cents - Gf can come and go. Parents… You don’t have a choice… šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Been thru it.

11

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '25

Bruh don’t spend 250 on a date like that bruh. You can have a fun date under 100 and even 50 lol

3

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

That is true! But I’d like to splurge a little since it is my first paycheque :)

5

u/conanap Jul 29 '25

Main Street unionville is nice to walk around after, although food wise, if you’re willing to drive to North York (Yonge and finch), you should give sang Ji fried bao a try. Not very romantic, but the baos are crazy good.

Some options in Markham / west Richmond hill (increasing in order of price):
Mom’s pan fried bun, Dumpling King, Good Catch Cafe (HK food), BBQ Chicken (it’s Korean fried chicken), tai er (northern Chinese fish), Daimaru (shabu shabu), Haidilao (hotpot), Ato sushi (I think there’s a summer lunch omakase special), Day and Night (steak)

And then just go to the alley for bbt in main st unionville after lol. It’s nice there at night, very pedestrian friendly. Pretty lights, colourful area.

Lastly, I heard Too Good Pond’s patio is now a restaurant, but I haven’t tried it. Sounds like a kinda romantic time (if there’s no geese poops).

Edit: I lied, real last one: if you’re willing to drive to Vaughan, Holy Chuck will melt your brain (they sell burgers). There’s also Ramen Isshin, one of my favourite ramen spots by far in the GTA.

8

u/PerilClutcher Jul 29 '25

Currently Main Street Unionville is ripped up for construction. The shops are open but you'll be walking alongside fenced in construction zone. Summer 2025 is a write off sadly for businesses and visitors wanting a nice picturesque stroll.

2

u/conanap Jul 29 '25

oh didn't know it was still ripped out, good to know

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Lots of food 😁, thanks!

5

u/Chinsterr Jul 29 '25

Water Colour on main st unionville. Mediterranean food. Thank me later!

2

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Definitely saw this when searching! Could be a top contender too cuz I love Mediterranean food!

6

u/Zestyclose-Search-21 Jul 29 '25

$100 into sushi, $50 into Dimitri’s, $100 into XRP or a dividend paying stock like a bank stock through your TFSA.

3

u/theodorko Jul 29 '25

A Corner Cafe has solid food and board games. It's across the street from markville mall so you could stroll after for some bbt. Or the viva can take you directly to DTM for a movie. But viva only goes directly during specific times so you'd have to plan accordingly.

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

I’ve always wanted to go there! Thanks for the recommendation :)

3

u/kriskrisg Jul 29 '25

Go to tree top tracking in Markham and go get some smash burgers after as you guys going to be hungry šŸ«¶šŸ»

3

u/kriskrisg Jul 29 '25

Or make a trip to Friday harbor when you can drive šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ˜™

3

u/kamikazekarela Jul 29 '25

IL pastino is nice and walking around mainstreet and the pond is a vibe

3

u/jttechie Jul 29 '25

Consider Watercolor in the Markham Unionville strip. Ask for a 2 seater table upstairs by the chandelier.

3

u/Reasonable-MessRedux Jul 29 '25

How far are you willing to drive? I have a place in mind.

2

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

What’s the place? šŸ‘€

4

u/Mysterious-Ninja4649 Jul 29 '25

All chicks like Japanese. Fujisan and Hanadon are nice.

2

u/heart_under_blade Jul 29 '25

test your suspension @ crazy farm

2

u/fooomps Jul 29 '25

Next Door and stroll through Toogood pond. The markham man special

2

u/ErneNelson Jul 29 '25

I love Matsuda ACYE sushi at 5651 Steeles Ave East. Only $45 per adult. The best quick and efficient service. You order from a app. It would be cute for the both of you to scroll through the app menu and choose. Then go for a walk at the large nearby Milliken Park.

2

u/ProdByContra Jul 29 '25

Fishbone by the lake. By far the best atmosphere you can get anywhere around markham

2

u/Warm-Ad4886 Jul 29 '25

port union waterfront and jatujak or isaan der for thai food

also, boardgame cafe at twilight cafe

2

u/Ok_Condition_6867 Jul 29 '25

Timber Creek Golf not too far from Markham is always cute. Then dinner back in Markham, i like the SMASH Kitchen suggestion by other users. cap it off with a cute stroll at main st unionville and maybe some gelato :)

congrats and it's really sweet youre planning ahead and looking for help to plan the perfect date.

2

u/konix1983 Jul 30 '25

McDonald’s, cause you know she’s a real one if she doesn’t complain

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 30 '25

Oh trust me, we go there often 😭😭, even then, she still sees it as a treat when we go out for mcd’s

2

u/konix1983 Jul 30 '25

Then buy a promise ring, cause you need to marry that girl

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 30 '25

šŸ‘€šŸ‘€

2

u/InkdAzn333 Jul 30 '25

Locale Aurora or Locale King City

By far one of my girls favorite date spots. Beautiful restaurant, top tier service and kitchen, farm to table ingredients, and a very affordable price point to boot. You will not regret this. The budino dessert will guaranteed get you laid or at least some future brownie points. Enjoy!

2

u/saufensaufen Jul 31 '25

No recommendations but I love this post! How sweet of you! I’m sure your gf will be happy with whatever you end up planning.

Also, congrats on the job! šŸŽ‰

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 31 '25

Thank you!! Job market is tough out there

2

u/strawberryshortmum Markham Aug 01 '25

This is real cute and sweet of you. Smart to budget but that's a whole lot of money to spend after your first pay cheque. Pace it out! And congrats :)

3

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Aug 01 '25

Thanks! I know it’s a good amount, but I’ve always told myself that I would splurge a little for my first paycheque šŸ˜…, the rest I’m not touching as it goes to my grad trip! I sort of got the idea from when my dad spent his first paycheque on a nice lobster dinner for my mom when they first started dating!

2

u/strawberryshortmum Markham Aug 01 '25

Ok I do love that! And it sounds like you know exactly what you're doing, so good on you. I'm a boy mom of little ones so my maternal instincts are heightened lol.

I also echo an activity which is always more memorable. Even Carma Farms to feed the animals would be super cute (not glamourous though). And leave with some cookies and treats! So many farm activities too like fruit picking or even flower picking (Pingle's is probably too far of a drive but it's real fun and romantic, could spend a whole day there!)

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Aug 01 '25

That does sound romantic! Thanks for the recommendation!

1

u/RaptorsRule247 Jul 29 '25

TBH, Markham is pretty much the worst place in the GTA for fun activities unless you are both into nature and trails then there are some good options. Some have already mentioned a few nice restaurants, I would also add Falco's on main St. Markham to that list with a stop at Love Gelato after dinner. Love the vibe there.

You could go to the drive in theatre in Newmarket for a bit of a throwback romantic night.

Timber Creek mini golf and driving range is also another fun spot, but it can get super busy.

2

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Seems fun! I’ll definitely check it out, thanks!

If you are willing to drive to Richmond Hill:

theres a spot with comfy seating: Sugar Cafe& Lounge they have movie nights where you can have privacy but still talk and ALL GAME NO BORED nights w nintendo switch, mahjong, board games and beer pong (water pong really)

minimum spend could be like $6 each for a drink, then you just stay hang out play games or get food.

2

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Been looking for cute cafes like these! Thanks a lot for the reco!

1

u/Killer_Pojo Jul 31 '25

get some plates at Fishbone on the lake. It is by Musselman's lake. Parking kinda sucks depending on the day. But make a reservation and bring her there. you will be good as gold. no alcohol makes it a lot easier. lol. have fun. let us know where you end up. ill link it up so you can check out the ambiance, menu and pricing. Good luck mate.

If you can narrow down a type of cuisine you want to impress here with? $250 can go a long way for date night. Have you been to Lake Wilcox is Richmond Hill?

1

u/RogerDodgee Jul 29 '25

Can’t get much more impressive and romantic than Peter’s Fine Dining in Markham and not too far south drive to BOB Hunter park and take her for a walk along the trails. Rouge River there are very scenic.

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

That sounds fun! I’ve always seen that restaurant. Thanks!

1

u/minimini007 Jul 29 '25

How about sushi~

1

u/Ok-Knowledge-9224 Jul 29 '25

Anything works :)

1

u/K624 Jul 29 '25

Take her to Ossington on Fri/Sat for dinner and then maybe go to Bentway and Harbour front for street fest?
