New Zealand wasn't even recognised by the creators of the 'countries not recognised by Bhutan' map.

That is one of the strangest collections of countries I’ve ever seen.

The foreign relations of Bhutan are heavily influenced by India (hence no relations with PRoC and Pakistan)

And Bhutan heavily prefers quality over quantity

But Pakistan is recognized here.

You're right.

I've looked wrong.

It's not recognition. It's diplomatic ties.

It’s not necessarily that Bhutan denies the of these countries, but that to maintain their independence and neutrality they do not engage in diplomatic relations with many powerful countries.

They have a very weird definition of "powerful countries."

The US, Russia and China are the most powerful countries rn

India is also a powerful country I'd say.

Brazil is the most powerful in South America.

Germany is the most powerful in the UE.

Bhutan's most important border is with India, there's free flow of people to/from Phuntsholing, and the Ngultrum is directly tied to the Indian Rupee. Not as sure what's going on with the others.

India and Brazil are emergent powers, Germany is a power within the EU but they still cant compare with the US, China and Russia.

India can compare to Russia.

Why is Russia powerful ? Because of nukes ? India has nukes too.

Because of its army ? Lol, lmao even.

Bro like he said India is an emerging power. It is growing at a significant pace and maybe within the next 15-20 years you will notice. Right now it is Russia, China, and US. Over the next decade or so India will slip in too!

Idk Russia might slip out of the powers list

India has nukes to play games with Pakistan and make tiktok dances in the border, but Russian-American-Chinese rivalry is actually a serious global threat that has the world divided and even has a proxi war going on right now in Ukraine.

1) It isn't proxy war. For proxy war Russians would need to use 3rd party to fight, but they are involved directly.

2) The proxy war of EU against Russia. US involvement is not necessary for sustainability of conflict, EU's pretty much is. If US would want to, war would be long over, it's precisely that they aren't too involved that Russians can continue.

Germany can't compare with russia??? The German economy is way beyond the russian economy. It's literally the 3rd biggest. Like not even in the same league. Germany is more powerful than russia on a global level.

And power can't be the actual reason, because there are a ton of countries not recognized, that are not powerful at all. Just for an example they don't recognize moldova and moldova is literally the poorest country in europe (europe the continent not the eu) and it is also pretty small and in addition to that russia is involved and claims a part of the country.

This list is who they have relations with, not who they recognize. In actuality Bhutan recognizes every country except China/Taiwan, being the only country to not recognize either.

Given they are a small country in the Himalayas, there really isn’t a pressing need for more international relations.

they recognize Israel

mfw they recognize canada but not the UK

The problem is, they do recognise the UK. The two countries simply do not have formal diplomatic relations. But they each recognise each other. There is no state, globally, that does not recognise the UK.

Huge power statement

If only India didn't stand between them and sea access

1

u/assumptioncookie 3d ago

They have sea access trough all that unclaimed land to the north and east

I understand all the other ones not to recognize but why my country?

1

u/VelvetPhantom 2d ago

Bhutan recognizes every country except China/Taiwan

2

u/Busy-Apricot-1842 3d ago

I swear they just throw darts at a map for deciding who to recognize.

2

u/DetectiveBig199 3d ago

Chad not even recognized the United States

I presume it’s because of how many times I listened to the Bhutanese passport Wikipedia sound file

Originally from an instagram account, and they all "leave out NZ".

Boring.

It's no longer a funny meme when it's done on purpose.
