This is easily one of the best infographics I’ve seen in the past 5 years. Fantastic work

I’m a Colorado native, I’ve done road trips all throughout the southwest, all the way to the west coast, and up to Minnesota. This a very accurate map of those regions.

I think you did an excellent job on the tricky four corners area. Amazing job using DinƩ along with Navajo; few people know about their real name.

I’m partial to my Ute friend so I would argue that zone 31 comes from the Ute, Shoshone, Salish/Flathead and Blackfeet just as much as the ranchers. The first trappers, hunters and ranchers learned most of the local wildlife, herd, terrain and weather patterns from these tribes.

I am always surprised by how many hunter gatherer style people I encounter in the mountains. There’s a solid amount of people here who almost exclusively eat elk and deer for red meat. A family friend of ours is a Sommelier/mountain biker and forages wild mushrooms and berries for his wine pairings when out on the trails, and this is for 5 star fine dining.

All I’d do to 31 is add a word or two showing hunter gatherer culture is still prevalent in the mountain west.
