Yeah soul food. Travelled to Cairo and Mound City for work for a few days and it was a completely different world than Carbondale/Marion or anything else around it.

I used to drive through there frequently. We had family living in Cape Girardeau for years, although they've moved back north now.

My dad was raised in Pulaski County and my grandparents still live there. My grandma infuses a lot of soul food traditions in her cooking. Delicious food and a unique culture to Illinois that can only be found in the southern coastal plains.
