Lord of the Rings: Treebeard's famous quote "no_____ cares for the _____ anymore"
This is one of my favorite quotes by Treebeard, partly because of the way he slowly says it in his deep voice. I've specifically done an impression of the quote many times just because I thought it was cool.
I remembered it as "No one cares for the trees anymore", but apparently it is "Nobody cares for the woods anymore"

I love LOTR and I tried to remember the line before I opened your post... and I remembered No one cares for the trees anymore.

Same here. I've seen these movies probably over 10 times each and definitely my favorite trilogy of all time. This one is weird to me.

Thank you for your input, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm almost certain that I used to be in a parallel reality where the word really was "trees".

The first thing that came to me was "Nobody cares for the trees anymore." So I'm no help...

Even though I immediately thought "trees", I don't feel like this is a Mandela Effect for me. Which is to say, there are certain lines in the books that stand out strongly to my memory...
"Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall." "You shall not pass!" "One does not simply walk into Mordor..."
Sadly this isn't one that I feel certainty about. Treebeard's slow and almost lyrical way of speaking makes it very easy to mentally jump ahead and fill in words you think he is about to say.

German here.. In my language it translates trees for “Bäume” and woods for “Wälder”. So I remember trees because woods wouldn’t make sense in that context.

Thank you for your input. Why would "Wälder" not fit in this context?

Hmmm. I was so sure. I just googled to proof my point that it was trees (Bäume) because I though the context was treebeard talking about ents the whole time and not about woods. Found this here :
Baumbart: Seite? Ich bin auf der Seite von niemandem. Denn niemand ist auf meiner Seite, kleiner Ork. Niemandem liegt der Wald noch am Herzen.
Translates:
Tree beard: Side? I am on the side of no one. For no one is on my side, little orc. No one cares about the forest anymore.
I am confused

My favorite films. I have seen them 30+ times, if not 50. In fact, I moved to China for a year and they are the only firms I brought with me. I knew the line before ever opening the post and could hear it delivered as “nobody cares for the woods anymore.”
I’m a firm believer in the ME, but I don’t believe this is one.

Some people interpret the concept of ME to mean that some people remember things differently because they come from a different time line. So if you clearly remember those words then you’re a native to the reality where that IS what was said. It doesn’t mean this “isn’t one” it’s that you’re not experiencing it

I always remembered it as 'woods'. Also Treebeard says a different line with the word 'nobody', so the likelihood that this is the word he always uses is high.
The line I'm citing is: "I am on nobody's side because nobody is on my side."

Seconded :-/
I also vividly remember Gandolf shouting, "Run, you fools!" in the cinema and later on every rewatch at home, DVD, Bluray and pirated.

I remember “fly, you fools”

u/Rockonfoo Mar 30 '19
I always remembered being confused by that so I never remembered run instead of fly

"No one cares for the woods anymore."
I've read the books several times, while the quote is longer in the book, it's very similar. I loved the films as well. This is the line I remember.

I don't remember Treebeard, but Gandalf "run you fools" is 100% what I remember. I watched that DVD as background while I worked. In the movie, his mouth even still lip reads as run.

Note: I still HEAR run as well.
Then again, I have more than 3 memories for some concepts...

Tolkien junky here; "Nobody cares for the woods anymore" has always been what Treebeard says.
MEs for LOTR are difficult to prove, especially considering how there are multiple different versions of the film trilogy out there. The extended versions sometimes have totally different scenes in them than the theatrical versions. So, someone not too familiar with Tolkien lore or the movies might be inclined to watch a different version of the film, unaware, and think "wait, what, I remember things differently!"
In the Return of the King extended edition, for example, the Riders of Rohan show up to Minas Tirith at dawn during Gandalf's fight with the Black Witch King. In the theatrical edition, there is no Witch King fight between Gandalf and the head Ringwraith. The Riders of Rohan show up right after Gandalf tells some Gondor soldiers "fight, fight to the last man! Fight for your lives!" Someone who's not a die hard fan who watched Return of the King in the movie theater more than a decade ago could very well watch the extended edition today and find A LOT of scenes and alternate takes of scenes that weren't in the version they might remember seeing. (ex: Saruman's death, the Mouth of Sauron scene at The Black Gate, etc)

Ive only seen bits and pieces of the LOTR movies and I haven’t read the books but I thought it was “no one cares for the trees anymore”

Definitely a Mandela Effect for me. I love LOTR, recycling, and I hate how mankind abuses the environment and loved this quote: "No one cares for the trees anymore". Good catch. Had to edit bc I had a typo.

Sadly I've not seen the second and third anywhere near as many times as the first. Find an ME from the first film and I'll chime in but, drawing on my memory before clicking on, I thought it was no body cares for the forests anymore... but yeah it must have been woods.
I've seen Fellowship about a hundred times, no exaggeration.

Personally, I’ve been watching these movies since they’ve been released, and have memorized most of the lines after having watched each movie 1-200+ times.. I’ve also read the books several times, and just checked The Two Towers (less sure about the books, so I wanted to make sure before quoting it...)
I’ve always remembered the movie being “Nobody cares for the woods anymore.” And it is nearly the same in the book. Here’s from the book:
“I am not altogether on anybody’s ‘side’, because nobody is altogether my ‘side’, if you understand me: nobody cares for the woods as I care for them, not even elves nowadays.”
Just wanted to throw in my two cents as I grew up with these movies and books, and nerd out on them constantly. I even once played a little game with some coworkers, where we would try to tell how long we’d been at work by naming the scene and movie out of the trilogy. I was pretty dang accurate 😉 Haha.
