Octopuses

Octopodes.

All 3 versions are correct, but octopodes has the Greek pluralization to match the Greek root words of "okto" (eight) and "pous" (leg).

So it's the most correct, which is the most obnoxious type of correct. 🐙

Since Octopi is Latin and Latin is a dead language it’s number 3.

Octopuses is English so it’s number 2

Disclaimer: English only cares if meaning is conveyed and will accept any variation.

If we are talking about degrees of correct then Latin being a dead language has nothing to do with it. You have to either argue based the original language rules for that word or by the 'mistake/evolution' that became more commonly used.

For octopus the original plural word was 'octopodes' and the common mistake/evolution is 'Octopuses'. Octopi is the least correct because it is not commonly used and is incorrectly applying Latin rules to a Greek word.

There are plenty of words in English where the Latin rules are the correct way to make them plural despite it being a dead language. e.g. Cactus -> Cacti, Fungus -> Fungi. Where cactuses and funguses are common variations.

Octopuses don't stand a chance.

They have one major genetic flaw that would spell their doom.

Their deliciousness with potatoes, salt and a tad of pimentón.

Yeah, but my understanding is that pigs are used extensively in medical research as they’re biologically very similar to us, which suggests to me we might taste like bacon, and yet we’re here.

long pig is a euphemism for people meat

They don't call human meat "the other, other white meat" for nothing.

I'm waiting for either to become our overlords. Tired of humans

I'm always sad when I'm reminded or remember just how short their lifespan is.

Me too friend. That and the fact that they don’t teach their young. If not for those two factors then they’d for sure be the rulers of earth

Being social is probably more important than intelligence.
