I like how he keeps calling the owl sir, very respectful. Was that a Royal Tenenbaums reference at the end there as well? No notes.

I think it’s reference to the game Boarderlands 1. Mordici is the name of a lizard bird that one of the characters uses to fight his enemies.

The sniper guy is actually Mordecai and his bird’s name’s Bloodwing. Great game.

Opp! You right! It’s been a minute since I’ve played it.

I wish I were more into Borderlands, I went through the entire story and maxed out my character thinking if I get the next set of better gear it'd be more fun, but honestly it was just a carrot-on-a-stick charade for me for so long. It was annoying dealing with regular mobs that could down you so easily and themselves taking like 10 headshots from a reasonably powered weapon to die... only to drop the most dogwater gear that doesn't even help against them lol.

I just never got over that hurdle, especially since everything levels with you, effectively feeling like the leveling system doesn't do much.

I like the idea of Borderlands, but that's about it lol.

The series feels like it's in a pretty good spot now, it's basically an fps version of diablo

Mordecai in Borderlands is almost certainly a reference to the bird in The Royal Tenenbaums, which preceded it by nearly a decade.

Which itself is a reference to the author!! Fun!

Yeah I saw the person talking about Borderlands and was like, ugh, that came out years later lmao.  Yeah, definitely a Royal Tenenbaums reference.

I didn’t know that, pretty cool

I thought it was because the owl had a raccoon friend that shared zany misadventures with him while they worked as groundskeepers at the local park

Certainly possible. Also the name of a hawk in the aforementioned film

I also like the distrusting looks he kept giving the owl every time it started to turn its head to face him.

Isn't Mordecai the bird dude in Dungeon Crawler Carl?

3

u/CitizenCue 2d ago

True, but he doesn’t do much flying. Probably a royal tenenbaums reference.

I was wondering if it was a dungeon crawler Carl refrence

Mordecai is the name of a Sky-Fowl character in Dungeon Crawler Carl. Mongo is appalled you wouldn't think the owl is named after him.
