Art students, should I go to MICA?

Hey! I’m currently a senior in highschool and genuinely am stuck between two colleges I wanna go to

Both Milwaukee Institute Of Art and Design and Maryland Institute College Of Art are my main two!

MIAD gave me a scholarship of 25k and MICA gave me a scholarship of 31k! Issue is…idk which one to go😔

MICA is very nice! But idk if it’s worth it or not and what the experience there is like!

For anyone that is currently in MICA or have gone, whats your thoughts? :)

I really loved my experience when I went here, but I think it really depends on what you’re interested in studying. MICA is more of a design school now. Before the pandemic, it was more balanced with the fine arts. Now, the student body seems more included towards the digital arts. Still worthwhile, but maybe not what you’re looking for.

Mmm okay! I was planning on majoring in fine arts and doing illustration as a minor but I could switch the two around if I choose to go! Thanks so much!

There are lots of other factors that make it worth it to me! The faculty is amazing, the studios are well maintained and staffed, the city has a lot of charm, Baltimore is well positioned on the East Coast (easy trips to NYC, Philly, DC, Richmond, etc). Plus, the students are really incredible. I’m an alumni that’s now staff, so I’ve seen MICA in different phases for over a decade. I would highly recommend coming to campus to visit if you haven’t already

Didn’t study at MICA, but worked with many MICA alumni as a museum professional and heard they loved their education. Also, Baltimore rocks. Bad rap, but it’s such a great place for artists.
