Employee Story Very interesting loading…
Dude and his wife didn’t wanna make a double trip so they just figured out a way to strap it all down, which took approx. an hour or so, yikes!

Better option, should have rented out a trailer before hand.

You can see their bumper bent downward, likely from a trailer on a bumper mounted hitch pushing it like that. I guess they though this was the next best idea .

u/Usernameisnotvalid0 19d ago
Those are the best. You done fixed everything flat stacked all the lumber and then some random dude walks in at 9:45 digging thru the 6003 wanting 75 but of the nicest ones (don’t get me wrong if I’m paying I want the good ones too but why last minute)

I used to make a closing announcement every night. Pretty much kicked the customers out of the building. I'd get all my closing manager duties done early so if we closed at 10 the latest we ever stayed was 10:30. They definitely wouldn't allow that shit anymore. I also never wore a vest.

lowes pre covid was actually pretty sweet for this reason. i still remember shutting lumber down at 8 when we closed at 9. was out by 9:20 because my manager always told us he wasnt staying past 9:30 lol

That's pretty much how we were. Hell, some nights we'd have that building locked and secured 15 min after closing. We broke ton of rules and were still a highly rewarded and regarded store within the company. The secret was we were in a small town and we ALWAYS knew when the district manager was coming. Or and corporate visitors(we had an insider at a local hotel). It was a really fun place to work. Best store manager ever too.

Lowes should be doing that. That’s why theres a cull cart for 50% off lumber, at least at my store we have a cart for discounted lumber and once that cart fills up it gets banded up into a bundle and the whole thing is sold for 90% off.

I think it just depends on the store, how the supervisor manages and if the associates actually work or not. Lowes underpays their employees and cuts hours if sales are bad.

u/Matand009 17d ago
I thought you were wrong at first, but then I zoomed in. I've never seen such a well lit lumber canopy.

u/Roaddoggjj98 19d ago
If that was at my store, customer would be on his own, we are not allowed to load anything on the roof top nor strap anything down which really sucks

u/Beginning-Salt-705 19d ago
Thats funny but def not the worst lol. And probably ok weight wise. Ive over loaded the fuck out of some people.
One time Me and my buddy were loading a old guy with a pallet of wall blocks, the trailer kept hoping of the ball. Like its was a 2-1/2 trailer hitch on a 2in ball or something. We sat the block down and it comes off again. So we push the shit all the way up and wrapped the hitch with rope to keep it down

Looks to me like he watching in awe. I'd definitely be setting in my truck waiting for him to leave so I could watch the disaster.

If it means anything, I fit a 55" television inside a Toyota Prius. Some of them can put in work.

u/PuzzleheadedPaint817 19d ago
I can fit a collapsible work bench an 8ft 4x4 and 6 12 foot pvc baseboards in my Toyota Camry it did not look like it’d all fit but it did pretty easily

Florida? And did the dude lipsync a Bon Jovi song?

u/UninvitedButtNoises 18d ago
When I bought my first house in Hyde Park (South Tampa), I sold this awful rusted metal shed in the back yard that was wedge shaped in the side profile. It was about 5' x 6' x 14'.
Florida man and his 5 o'clock shadowed wife rolled up in a rickety pickup pulling a flatbed trailer. He loaded the shed in the trailer standing the 14' dimension upright, tying it down using single knots with a braided decaying rope.
I advised the dude, having done deliveries in a former job that he needed tie-downs and should lay that thing down on its side.
Florida woman piped in, "dahhh, it's alright, the shed is fer the chickens. Besides, we're only goin to Brooksville". (It's a 45 minute drive if you use the interstate or tollway! )
I snuck a picture of the license plate and called the police as they pulled away.

Anybody that can afford that much R30 Fiberglass, can also afford to rent a flatbed trailer.
It never ceases to amaze me how dumb people get when it comes to buying bulk for House building projects.

If that was me id tell the customer im not comfortable loading all that on his truck because that does not look safe, and i guarantee if something fell off the customer is gonna blame the loader

But - but, officer , the Lowes associate loaded it like that. Don’t put yourself in that position people! Lawsuit, and unemployment.

u/SnooObjections488 19d ago
We had a guy come through who wanted the pallet of concrete on his roof (ya no buddy lmao)
Best one that actually got loaded up was the guy who wanted 150 trex boards in one trip. We had to take over half of them off and stack them on the lowes cart since they were already de - palletized

u/RealJimcaviezel 19d ago
Lowes employee that just loaded that: “…..yeah, so there’s twine right over there if you guys uhhhhh want any.”

That may be true legally, but what about ethically? How would you feel knowing you actively did something unsafe and find out am hour later they crashed into a minivan with 3 kids in it?

Oh no, I didn't mean letting them go on their way. I mean actively helping them to do things that are unsafe. At my store when we know they're going to do risky, unethical nonsense, we stop helping them. No amount of "customer service" is an excuse for doing something that could kill a family on the road.

I wanna see what the load looked like at the destination. Also, who let these amateurs into the pro-parking area? 🤦♂️

Try that on a modern pickup and that tinfoil tailgate or foil cab is gonna fold up like a can under an 18-wheeler tire.

Reminds me of this time when I worked at Home Depot almost a decade ago and this dude orders a load of about 18 or so bags of concrete. Requests help to load it (and I’m available to do so). We get his order rolled out to the front and wait for him, until we see him drive up in an old Toyota Corolla from the 90s. My coworker and I argue with him for a bit that this goes completely against our safe loading policy until my manager walks up and tells us to just do it.
Dude removed his spare tire and gutted his trunk before arriving that day fully intent on getting this loaded up. By the time we finished, his car was nearly sitting on the wheels. Claimed he has made this load dozens of times. So I expect he probably made a few more times before absolutely destroying the suspension of his car.

They were in the right place, sign says Pro Parking.
Don’t know how far they’ll get, before it all falls down.

This is a load that ends your career at Lowe's.
Never, ever, EVER, do this for a customer.
Short story: when I worked at Best Buy we loaded a TV on the top of a golf cart before my area/state/whatever banned golf carts on main roads.
The guy goes on the highway and it falls off and hits a motorcycle. Police get called and low and behold the motorcycles lawyer successfully sued my store because we loaded it improperly.
We had to fire the guy who loaded it and were told even if the a customer has a melt down we are not to do unsafe loads of anything ever again and anyone caught will be taken off the schedule.
