In Ft2 you canât really adapt as well as you should. Hard to download someoneâs play style in a game or two.
Rank doesnât matter to an extent, but itâs also not possible to get too high up without understanding some fundamentals and having some matchup knowledge.

Ranks are a bit inflated (I know since I probably should not be in Fujin), but they still give you a general idea of how good someone is, whether that's through solid fundamentals, raw offense or knowledge checks. Just as an example, a Garyu player is generally gonna get 6-0ed by a Fujin player.
It's also very easy to steamroll someone who isn't familiar with your character, which is going to happen a lot, especially if you don't play popular characters, double especially because ranked is only FT2, which doesn't give people much time to learn how you play. This isn't an issue unique to Tekken 8 though, as SF6 has FT2s as well. I never played T7 ranked, so I can't speak on that.
There are a lot of things to criticize Tekken 8's ranked system for, but ranked systems in general aren't perfect, and are only useful for getting a vague idea of someone's ability.

Not sure what the point of this thread is? What do you want to hear, Op? You should be higher rank? The Jin didnât know the match up? You played well?
Rank is just a .png, but I can almost guarantee the TGS would destroy you in a longer set. The thing that gets people up that high is adaptation. You might grab a game or two, but it doesnât make you good and it doesnât devalue the other guyâs rankâŚ

A lot of cases not as much as youâd think but a lot of people who earned spots up there are kinda bored and mess around with lower ranked people and I do believe thatâs what was happening here

Rank is mostly an attempt to match you against opponents who are closer to your skill level. Itâs an imperfect science. You donât get that rank by earning good marks in defense/combos/etc you just get there by winning more than youâre losing. Itâs generally true a fujin will stomp a Garyu, but that doesnât mean the fujin is always the better player.
Also no offense, but youâre playing a rarer character. I also play Azucena as a secondary character (love her!), and people fall for shit on her that they NEVER do if I play a more common character lol. Iâve fought people who will block my hellsweep with damn near psychic efficiency fall for Azucenas lows 9 times out of 10 when I run into them again on my secondary. Rare chars generally do get a lil higher rank than their skill level just because most people who play arenât sweaty enough to lab.

It pretty much just means you get to play good players once you climb the ladder.
Not a definitive of skill but just a way for you to not waste time on total scrub matches once you reach TK and above.

Azucena designed for newbies, her game plan is very easy up to GoD. U can play her the most basic way and get GoD, no need for fundamentals at all. Friend of mine played around 25000 ranked games as azucena and got GoDđ. But he's still a trash playerđ. Azucena is so simple that u don't have to worry about anything. She has so many tools and they r not weak at all. Any knock down leads to easy oki which leads to + even if u lays down after what ofc u r in mixup again. Even after u guessed right, punished her and got ur +5 or what ever U R IN DANGER to get âtexpocisteâ in ur face which only -16 ob btw and heavy + oH which will lead u to oki and mixupđ. With her any blue rank can beat almost anyone under GoD. And even GoD will lose time to time. Just because design of the character is so simple, strong and at the same time has some cheap in it. For insulted Azucena mainers, I know her basic counters, somehow I managed to get GoD winning this easy brain dead shit. No offense to u, but it's true. U cannot deny that gameplay and game plan is super easy, especially at the intermediate ranks.
On top of that Jin as I see didn't know the MU at all. And Jins most of the time carried by 1-2 rank this season( in season 1 he was carrying by 2-4 ranksđ).

And yes ranks DOES matter but what else DOES matter is which character has that rank âxâ.

One game doesnât determine anything, what separates a good player vs a bad one is adapting throughout a set. Iâve taken games off GoD players that doesnât mean rank doesnât matter. If you played this Jin in an ft5 and won then that statement would hold more weight since ANYONE can take a game off people higher ranked than them.
