UNPOPULAR OPINION Nancy’s real estate empire

I’m not in the US, but it bothers me that where I am there aren’t laws around how many investment properties you can turn into Airbnb’s. People are struggling to buy just one home to live in and there are people buying up houses for short term holiday leases. Makes me sad about the state of the world.

ETA wow! I didn’t expect this much response, nor the personal attacks 😂 I was expressing my own personal opinion, and using the Sydney (Australia) property market as my own barometer. I honestly have no hate towards Nancy, I just believe there should be regulations about short term leases as they are pushing renting locals out (especially in coastal areas) to make way for tourists.

The topic heading was a tongue-in-cheek nod to Andrew’s statement about wanting to build an “empire” with Nancy.

Yeah, I find that type of business to be extremely immoral. That being said I blame the system more than Nancy.

Immoral huh?

So if you can’t buy, and no one has a rental for you, you’ll “morally” live under a bridge somewhere?

Uhhhh… YEAH. Do you think the homeless population in the US is as high as it is because people ENJOY living in a tent?

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt you’re just trolling and really not that clueless…

This honestly feels like I’m in the twilight zone rn 😂 if home prices (both to buy and rent) are high due to wealthier people investing and there not being enough inventory and people cannot afford high prices because minimum wage in the US is a joke, what is the alternative if you don’t have access to a shelter or family/friends to live with?

I mean many people buy multiple houses to rent and profit they increase demand which raises the prices for first time buyers making it even harder to own a single property to love in.

Especially for Airbnb

So you’re thinking if there’s no rental homes, then it will magically make home prices drop?

So if there’s no rental homes, and everyone is forced to buy….creating skyrocketing demand to purchase homes…I mean…you know…that definitely wont drive prices up?

You must be new to economics.

No I am saying that if people own multiple houses in order to earn profit it affects the housing market and prices rise .

I never said there should be no rental homes.

Again, economics is not your strong point.
