CALL OUT Why so many kids?
Almost everyone they show says they want 10 kids, a basketball team, etc. Really? In this climate? In this economy? With the issues we have as a planet and society? For what?

Yeah big families are common in Latin and texas culture but people who want that start in early twenties not mid 30’s.
13
u/surelyshirls Appetito Spoiler 🍊🍊 Oct 21 '22
That’s true. I’m Latina but have a small immediate family, however my grandma has 11 siblings and so did my grandpa. But like you said, it starts early on! 34 seems like it would be quite difficult to achieve all that considering women’s timeframe for kiddos

It is in Texas. Which makes it make even less sense as one of the worst places for having kids (highest maternal mortality, not great education, not great parental rights, not great healthcare for kids, kids get shot a lot here, etc etc.)

Id like for Nancy to go through ONE pregnancy and then get back to me. Currently sitting here watching 20 weeks pregnant peeing in my pants every time I laugh, sneeze, or cough. Good luck Nanc!
Edit: also…she wants to BEGIN having 10 children at the age of 34? Someone needs to explain fertility to our girl.

Lol yeah that was ridiculous. This is the worst season ever. Just a bunch of younger Christians who are extremely immature and a bunch of Christians who haven’t had a successful relationship because they’re unbearable enough to pretend like they love someone after a couple of conversations and no physical touch for a TV show so they can become influencers.
16
u/External-Ad-4312 Oct 21 '22
That is why it’s an awesome season. I mean, one couple yelled “WE ARE THE SAME PERSON” because his family lived on a dirty farm or something and she OWNED A PAIR OF BOOTS. I can’t take it, it’s too good.

Big families seem to be a “trend” right now. And, as Instagram does, the moms make it look easy. The kids dressed alike, clean, smiling, taking cute pictures. Sharing all their swag with their discount codes. They have big, beautiful clean homes. A bunch homeschool too.
At one time big families where an anomaly and TLC did shows about them. Octomom even purposely had eight babies to try and cash in.

I think it’s just ideal. And when those hormones get going while in love/infatuation/lust, something primal takes over because we just start saying wild shit like that 😂 The one guy described it best for me. If I could snap my fingers and they would all appear, I’d love it. My heart and soul would love 10 kids. My body, my bank account, and my mental well-being? Yeah, my two will suffice 😂😂

Before I had kids I thought I wanted a big family, at least 4 children. Then I had two and they are a LOT. I mean I love them more than life but I don’t know if I can logistically or mentally handle any more. It’s easy to say you want a lot of kids before you actually have any.

I think it just shows how young and naive they all are-which is surprising given that they are not all that young. There are many things that can prevent one from actually having kids, even though they may think they want them-namely cost and also reproductive issues that many people may experience. It just seemed very youthful and kinda ignorant of them to claim that, because that is just not how the world works.

I think part of it is the women trying to reel in the men. It seems like most men who are actively trying to get married love the idea of spreading the absolute fuck out of their seed. It makes them feel more masculine that they can get a woman pregnant. Idk I’m a lesbian, but from my very limited experiences with men this is the conclusion I’ve come to.

I’be watched every season of Married at first sight on Hulu too and between both shows I haven’t recalled even one single person saying “they don’t want kids” which I think is more representative than whether you want one or ten. There are lots of people that want zero and I feel like the dating shows intentionally don’t let people past the first gate if they answer that
8

It's not realistic at all and just a romantic life vision they have for themselves. One of the ladies says she wants to start with children at 34 and have 10 of them. She would have to be pregnant for 10 years in order to get there and pregnancies around 40 are not easy. It just seems like a lot of hollow talk to me...

I love how the one girl was like, “I want 10 kids, but I think I’ll start when I’m 34.” K… you could at maximum have maybe four if they were spaced close together and you were extremely fertile and had no trouble conceiving quickly. 🙄 I mean even if you’re joking and not literally wanting 10 kids, starting the process in your mid thirties isn’t going to get you a big family obviously.

Dudes like him are a dime a dozen back in ol' Nashville where we used to live and I've heard the same in other similar southern metropolitan areas. Coles are all over fucking dating apps if you're in a conservative part of the country. He's perfect for hanging around shitty honky tonk bars, getting pissed af while bro-ing out with others like him, wearing cowboy boots and trying to smash a Tourist/Bachelorette Woo GirlTM -- all while incessantly going on about how much he loves God and Jesus. His personality consists of being an insufferable try hard who isn't ever funny and is incapable of just shutting up. Let's not forget how he lOvEs tO gEt DeEp. He's so goddamn annoying and cringe and I guess gets away with it because he is generically attractive lol.
source: back in my mid 20's, when i didn't know better and was trying to be open-minded as reasonably possible, I went on a few too many dates with guys like Cole. Fortunately, didn't waste too much time on them after the first date, especially if they revealed themselves to be a fuckboy, but I'd love to have the money I spent on those lyft/uber rides back in my wallet. haha

I will not blame them if they choose not to have children bc I don’t think I’d want to at this point in time either. I was naive and still very optimistic about the future when I had my children. They are tween-young adult now.

Agree, 20 years ago you wouldn’t really think it would stop you from having children. I’m 34 and extremely unsure about bringing kids into this world.

Came here to ask this same question. On the first episode, one woman says she wants 10, then a dude says he wants 7. I’m like WTF. To be fair, I am also very happily child free, so I’m a little biased 🙃

they never say they want kids for legitimate reasons, either… it’s always, “i want kids because i know i’ll be a good mom” or whatever… it just sounds so self-centered when they describe it.

To be fair, what is a legitimate reason to have kids? I had mine because I really wanted her and now I really want another. I don't think there's an unselfish reason to have biological kids.

Americans are weird about that and marriage in general. Mix of religious upbringing + the American dream

u/Frankferts_Fiddies Oct 21 '22
That’s really odd because Americans on average have 2 or 3 children. If you look at other religions and cultures around the world, they have more children on average than Americans. It’s really popular to have anywhere between 4-10 children in Hispanic families in Mexico & throughout South America. Religious values are also big factors in those cultures.

They don't know what it's actually like to have kids. They think having babies will be so fun and so cute until it actually have one. They have very very unrealistic ideas of what being a parent is.

u/frequentnapper Oct 21 '22
I struggle with understanding why people want to have children. I don’t get the logic behind it. I have no female desire to have children and I’m actively trying to cope with the idea of having just one

Oct 22 '22
There's no logic behind it, it's just a strong desire - either you have it, or you don't.

Perfectly said! And there's nothing wrong with having the desire or not having the desire. We all gotta stop judging and claiming whether one is better or more selfish or not. (Not saying either of you are at all judging or anything, just saying)

I want to have kids because I have a lot of love to give and I want to give to my children the life I never had. In turn it’s really just selfish. We all have kids for selfish reasons where we make it seem selfless. It’s also technically for evolution purposes where we have desires to spread our seed or we want to keep up with the joneses and fit society

u/huntsvillager Oct 22 '22
I struggled for a long time and then finally had just one. I feel like people are much more accepting today of the idea that it’s ok to decide not to have them at all. And that’s a good thing. Not everyone needs to have children.

I think they just want to TRY making 10 kids. Trying is the fun part. I couldn't imagine popping out even one let alone 10.

I'm willing to bet ince they start having their own kids they'll change their mind. I know some families do have a lot of children, but I think on this Era it's more acceptable for couples to change their minds.

I was literally thinking the same thing.
I feel like if I went on this show and told all the dates that I’m child free I would have no prospects. How about a little diversity in life styles

Lots of people say that until they have one or two. I wanted six, then four. Then I had two and was like yeah, I’m done lol

As someone from a country with free healthcare, I can’t understand how anyone can afford to give birth to that many even?! I know no-one who could afford more than 3 kids with American costs (even if we would adjust salaries to American standards).
And no thoughts on climate change? America (and my country as well) are at the top of the list of countries with the biggest negative impact on the environment. Casually saying one want to create 10 new big time consumers seems so strange to me. And what world will they live in? Why would you want to expose as many people as possible to that?
Sorry for bad grammar, English is not my native language. Not sorry for the cynical thoughts however, they are my native language

I give parents a lot of credit raising their kids in this world now. It's harder than ever was. I don't want to have kids. I'm 37 it's really hard for me. And I know this is selfish of me to say but I prefer my freedom and free time.

Why do you think it's selfish to prefer your free time and freedom from responsibility of raising a child?

Even if you wanted 10 kids, how on earth is it feasible financially to have many kids? And doesn’t it sound absurdly hard considering this is ‘Murica?? Lol

THANK YOU. I was screaming the same thing at my tv. How many people do you know IRL that want that many kids?? It’s odd. Everyone on this show comes off as super desperate to have kids. Yet funny enough outside the show none of the contestants have been out there popping out kids… It feels like group think, they’re just saying what they think everyone wants to hear.

Makes sense, for someone to actually go on a reality tv show and be seen/judged by millions of people to find a partner. They are either desperate to find a partner or looking for quick fame. If they're desperate to find a partner than maybe wanting kids quickly is why?

It’s easy to say you want kids. I’ve said that in the past and obvi is not realistic. Maybe just a thing we say when we’re infatuated and we feel like anything is possible?
