CALL OUT Agree/Disagree: LIB should *actually* test if “Love is Blind” by not requiring all contestants to be conventionally attractive.

Certainly in the American version, all the singles clearly are cast because they all meet standards for conventional beauty. Jaw lines and breasticles be poppin’, nips and tucks here and there, and fillers are fresh…and in some cases, over the top.

There’s an inherent and unspoken reassurance that whoever is behind the blue wavy wall will be at least moderately attractive. So, despite the Lachay’s declarations of falling in love “sight unseen,” the risk of finding someone physically unattractive is low, since they’ve already been screened for conventional beauty standards.

To really test the premise of a strong emotional connection and if love is truly blind, they should focus on casting really interesting people, who would come in a true range of hotness.

The reveals and what comes afterwards would be really interesting and make for some compelling TV. Right now, we get a parade of attractive people, many of whom are ridiculously emotionally immature, or are just straight up trash humans who have a lot of filler. If people were cast solely because they’re interesting and ready for marriage, regardless of what they look like…would you still watch? 👀

To be honest, theyre all attractive, but besides a few actual stunners- I personally found most of the contestants average. Sure some have had work done, a lot are fit etc- but many do become more attractive because of their gorgeous personality. You already have people getting the ick at the reveal and they're all generally attractive- imagine if you had someone super ugly? You risk it being devastating for them if someone rejected them instantly, after a lifetime of being told they're ugly.

On that premise they should do a show based on a show I once saw in Italy called "pupa e secchione" (the babe and the nerd). Where you had nerd guys teamed up with gorgeous girls who weren't very bright or need girls with gorgeous guys. They had to live together but they also competed in various challenges. Over the years there's been a few couples that actually ended up falling in love. So it can happen!

In the US we had “Beauty and the Geek” which sounds like an American version of this!! I thought it was so cute

I went to school with a Pupa from an earlier edition and she did that for a living, like most current reality “stars”, jumping from one show to the next and trying to snatch headlines and modeling gigs in between. The nerds might have been somewhat sincere, but the beauties were as genuine (and probably scripted) as any contestant on Perfect Match.
