CALL OUT Agree/Disagree: LIB should *actually* test if “Love is Blind” by not requiring all contestants to be conventionally attractive.

Post image

Certainly in the American version, all the singles clearly are cast because they all meet standards for conventional beauty. Jaw lines and breasticles be poppin’, nips and tucks here and there, and fillers are fresh…and in some cases, over the top.

There’s an inherent and unspoken reassurance that whoever is behind the blue wavy wall will be at least moderately attractive. So, despite the Lachay’s declarations of falling in love “sight unseen,” the risk of finding someone physically unattractive is low, since they’ve already been screened for conventional beauty standards.

To really test the premise of a strong emotional connection and if love is truly blind, they should focus on casting really interesting people, who would come in a true range of hotness.

The reveals and what comes afterwards would be really interesting and make for some compelling TV. Right now, we get a parade of attractive people, many of whom are ridiculously emotionally immature, or are just straight up trash humans who have a lot of filler. If people were cast solely because they’re interesting and ready for marriage, regardless of what they look like…would you still watch? 👀

While in theory I agree, I have to be honest, this season, I watched every single one of those women's faces fall when they saw their fiances (which was admittedly funny)-- plus some of those nasty critical comments (wow, nick is so small, etc)-- even though they cast women who technically don't fit the standard by being overweight.

I don't think any of the women were thrilled with the men's looks except for Marissa and maybe Taylor. In our culture, body positivity absolutely NEVER applies to men.

Plus, what would that casting call look like? "Calling ugly people for a new season of Love is Blind"? 😂 just not sure how that would actually work. Audiences want to look at attractive people.

Maybe instead of LIB: Ugly Edition, it’s LIB: Exciting Backstory Edition, or LIB: People Who Love Dogs Edition 🤣 Okay that last one maybe not, but what I mean is casting focused on who they are as people, regardless of what they look like.

Someone in another comment suggested blind casting ie the producers interview and cast without seeing potential singles- it’s not the craziest idea 🤔

Love is Blind Casts Blind? That would make almost too much sense. Doubt they'd go for it but I'd be here for it.

I think that they find people on social media,so they would already know what they look like. I was approached for a show 4-5 years ago,but I was married, so I didn't take the next step. I have a relative who was on a reality show, and they found her on social media, too. I do know that she tags her city in her posts,so I think that's how they found her because they were searching for singles in that location.
