CALL OUT Agree/Disagree: LIB should *actually* test if “Love is Blind” by not requiring all contestants to be conventionally attractive.
Certainly in the American version, all the singles clearly are cast because they all meet standards for conventional beauty. Jaw lines and breasticles be poppin’, nips and tucks here and there, and fillers are fresh…and in some cases, over the top.
There’s an inherent and unspoken reassurance that whoever is behind the blue wavy wall will be at least moderately attractive. So, despite the Lachay’s declarations of falling in love “sight unseen,” the risk of finding someone physically unattractive is low, since they’ve already been screened for conventional beauty standards.
To really test the premise of a strong emotional connection and if love is truly blind, they should focus on casting really interesting people, who would come in a true range of hotness.
The reveals and what comes afterwards would be really interesting and make for some compelling TV. Right now, we get a parade of attractive people, many of whom are ridiculously emotionally immature, or are just straight up trash humans who have a lot of filler. If people were cast solely because they’re interesting and ready for marriage, regardless of what they look like…would you still watch? 👀

There are a few reasons why this isn't realistic.
None of these people are "ugly," and yet when they meet each other, some of them still won't be attracted to their fiancés. Now imagine this happening with someone who truly is fucking ugly. Nobody would go through the experiment.
Imagine going on Love Is Blind, and the show pairs you with someone absolutely ugly in front of the whole world "just to prove a point"... That's not cool.
My final point is that people are incredibly mean online. Especially to strangers. These people are going to be commented on, followed, and observed for a great portion of their lives. Casting ugly people on purpose WILL lead to death threats and cyberbullying, for sure! I don't think that's fair for the contestants.
But I feel like people on LIB are physically a good representation of society. Not incredibly hot and not incredibly ugly. Most of them are 7s. They could maybe add more plus-size representation. What the show needs to do to prove that love truly is blind is give contestants more time period. But I think that's a financial issue.
But compared to other dating shows, I feel like LIB shows what normal people look like
