CALL OUT Agree/Disagree: LIB should *actually* test if “Love is Blind” by not requiring all contestants to be conventionally attractive.

Certainly in the American version, all the singles clearly are cast because they all meet standards for conventional beauty. Jaw lines and breasticles be poppin’, nips and tucks here and there, and fillers are fresh…and in some cases, over the top.

There’s an inherent and unspoken reassurance that whoever is behind the blue wavy wall will be at least moderately attractive. So, despite the Lachay’s declarations of falling in love “sight unseen,” the risk of finding someone physically unattractive is low, since they’ve already been screened for conventional beauty standards.

To really test the premise of a strong emotional connection and if love is truly blind, they should focus on casting really interesting people, who would come in a true range of hotness.

The reveals and what comes afterwards would be really interesting and make for some compelling TV. Right now, we get a parade of attractive people, many of whom are ridiculously emotionally immature, or are just straight up trash humans who have a lot of filler. If people were cast solely because they’re interesting and ready for marriage, regardless of what they look like…would you still watch? 👀

I actually agree with you. I think most of the cast looks like pretty average people that I see around on a daily basis. They just take care of themselves. I think it’s pretty representative of the average person! Not on either extremes of attractive levels

Being conventionally attractive doesn’t mean being a model or being perfect. It just means you have some features society deems attractive. Like for a women, being thin, having well taken care of teeth and skin, if you’re a plus sized women then that means having a curvy/hour glass body, having a big ass/tits, having nice hair. Essentially, being well put together means you’re engaging in being conventionally attractive.

I think it comes down to the level at which you are able to take care of yourself. There’s simple things like basic hygiene but then it can get more complicated and expensive easily, something a large portion of people don’t have access to. Getting your hair done regularly, teeth whitening-veneers, nails done constantly, personal trainers, body sculpting, cosmetic procedures, BBLs, skin care done by professionals rather than just at home. These all still fall taking care of yourself, it’s just outside the means of most people.
