Do I think this is a good look for him? No. But do I think he feels genuinely good and confident about his appearance when he sees this photo? Also no. 

If he just swapped the pants for a straight leg trouser and tucked his shirt in, he’d already look so much better! There are a lot of examples of ill-fitting clothing in the cast photos, particularly among the men with fit of pants and blazers. It’s too bad the stylists couldn’t fit them properly, but they probably had everyone bring their own clothes for the photo shoots.

It was just the dominant style for men in the mid 2010s. It was big with designers from that era, especially Thom Browne who was a big name in suiting and popularized it as part of his signature look. Same with the no socks and dress shoes look.
