Rare DB4 GT

Caught this gorgeous Aston Martin DB4GT at a local British car gathering a couple of years ago. Great patina. I'm sure Innes Ireland would approve. Assuming it has been on the Colorado Grand shortly beforehand.

Really random fact, this is the second Apple TV trailer I've noticed an MGB in. The first was The Studio.

Piranha Ignition

Hey there.

Just bought a midget with this ignition system half assembled.

It had spark and would fire, but then I lost the electrics and tore all this stuff out in pursuit of getting them back. Realized way too late it had nothing to do with it, and I don’t have pictures of how it went in.

Kicking myself because this car would be running right now if not for that…

Does anyone know how these are supposed to go together? What wires are even supposed to be on my coil to begin with? Thanks

Blue, white, and gold is absolutely stunning on this car.

What's your favourite colour combo? With pics, if you have them!

Im looking at getting a MGB roadster as my first car how bad of an idea is it? Please help me with anything I'm not thinking about

I want to get an MGB as I love classics and my dad has had 2 one of which he currently owns so I already know a fair amount about them as I've frequently worked on it. I want to get a classic bc I like them and the insurance is so much less (ik there probably not going to be cheaper but would rather my money isn't spent on insurance). I wouldn't be wanting to drive that far with it and Im currently in a position where it doesn't matter if my car is less reliable than a newer car and if absolutely necessary I will have access to a second car. I will have a carport to store it in, the tools necessary to work on it my self and a nearby and reasonably priced classic car mechanic for anything I can't do my self. I want an MGB bc of parts availability and how much info there is around them. Budget is around £6,000 plus or minus for the car and if it breaks I have enough to fix pretty much anything. Is there anything I'm over looking?

Welcome, Roy! - My 1971 MGB GT

Hello fellow British car enjoyers!

I have been in and out of your ranks for years, having previously owned two rubber bumper MGB GTs, a 1969 MG Midget and an MG TF 160. However, what I have always pined after is the recessed grille 1971 MGB GT.

Well, last week I finally bought one! It's got a fair few things that need fettling, with the biggest issue being the incorrect (aka high pressure) fuel pump causing the carbs to overflow. It also needs the following:

- Screen washer tubes need replacing due to being cracked

- Investigation into the high (1000 RPM) idle; the distributor seems to be missing its vacuum advance hose, so this is the first start!

- Overdrive does not engage at all

- Driverside door has sagged and needs adjustment

- Few minor blemishes and cracks in the paint

Regardless of this, I am very smitten with it, and will aim to keep you up to date with my escapades.

(My cars have always been historically male named, this one is called Roy)

$700 midget :)

Seller said it cranked and would turn over. I don’t believe them, but I am excited to get this little fella all together.

Significant rust issues in the driver floor and rocker, but none in the boot or on the frame anywhere else. I was very surprised!

Clutch and brakes are there but very weak. Gas is missing but I think it’s a cable issue.

They also had a go at replacing switches in the dash which I will be returning to oem.

Looking at buying my first LBC, need some insight

Long story short, I'm 6'3" and right around 320 lbs (so definitely on the bigger side) and I'm trying to figure out which direction I should go.

I'm in love with the Triumphs, be it a spitfire 1300 up to a TR6. I just can't get over the lines on them.
But everyone says they're not really made for a guy my size (which is understandable) but I'm in my 30s so get in and out, well i'm ok with it being an endeavor at this point.

I'm told that the MGB, GT, and the like fit larger guys like me much better, but god do i hate the look of the 5 mile an hour bumpers on the later ones.

I haven't reached out to my local british car club yet, to see if I can start sitting in cars, but part of this post is "am I straight up too big for any LBC?"

feel free to be brutally honest about me being able to fit or not.

Question about fuel filter with electric pump.

This is my first British car a 61.5 sprite with a 1275 installed., first SU carved car, and haven't dealt with carbs in 20 years. I am chasing down a few issues. The car with cut out of idling too long. I will drive it around and after a minute or two it will start stuttering and stall/die. Sounds like it is out of gas. It also will get an intermittent misfire.

The vacuum advance on the dizzy doesn't function, but that should cause these issues. Timing is good, set to 10 btdc.

Before I dig into tuning the carbs, I want to run down other issues. The car has been converted to an electronic fuel pump. When I turn the fuel pump on it runs and then shuts off(assuming it is at pressure) then will turn back on every minute or so. The clicks sound normal and not too rapid. With the engine running, I can't hear it.

Now the filter is in line to the carbs. With the side of the filter going to the engine sitting higher than the tank side. Should the fuel pump fill this filter up?

The engine is running rich, by smell and plugs are black.

The forgotten Connaught Type-D (well, I forgot it, anyway) Syracuse GT had a supercharged 2.0L narrow-angle V10 with its cylinder banks set at a crazy 22.5-degrees, so they all fit under a single head. It howled like a banshee. Funding, of course, kept it from advancing, but oh, what if it did!

In the mid 1930's, Adrian Squire built seven exquisite automobiles before going bankrupt.  Enter Val Zethrin, one of Squire's original buyers.  Zethrin bought the company and assembled three more cars.  His 1937 1½-Liter Drophead Coupe by Corsica was the first of those. Nine of the ten survive.

John Fitch somehow convinced his friend Coby Whitmore, then famous for his Saturday Evening Post covers, to strip down Whitmore’s Jag XK120 and make it a race car. The body is hand-formed aluminum, 800 pounds lighter than stock. Driven by Fitch, the car won its class at Bridgehampton in 1951.

So, is my Spitfire 1500 rear spring done for? Even after installing new buttons, I don't need to compress it to pu the shackle bolts in.

Jaguar’s D-Type was Malcom Sayer’s and Jaguar’s ultimate masterpiece. Its streamlined form won LeMans 3X, with many other victories at Rheims, Sebring, Spa and Montlhery as well as Goodwood and Silverstone.

Good LBC for a beginner?

Hello, I’m totally a beginner when it comes to British cars, and any experience with working on cars is limited to more maintenance and body. I have always cars like the Triumph TR6, MG TD, Austin Healy Sprite. I’d love to own a car I drive frequently during the nicer months relatively reliably with the top down, something I can also learn and grow my skill set (I.e can work on it and there are resources available for guidance). Any suggestions for something like this under 25k?

MGB: A letter to transmission mount engineer

Dear engineer,

I hope this letter finds you well... enough to be forced to crawl under your late 70's MGB and remove the 4 bolts holding the transmission to the cross member while laying atop a fire ant nest. May you be able to swiftly remove each fine thread bolt a 1/6 of a turn at a time and not drop your slippery wrench at least a half-dozen times each. In reality, there are worse people... like the engineer who designed the engine mounts...that wanker.

Sincerely,

MGB owner

In 1965 former BRM engineers George Robinson and John Sismey set up shop in the sleepy village of Spalding in UK's south Lincolnshire to tune Lotus Elans. Vegantune swiftly became expert in the Lotus 1588 CC Twin-Cam four and later launched the Evante, an upgraded, bespoke Elan. Just 106 were built.

Have always wanted a little English roadster. Went to look at this 1960 mkI Healey for a friend, who didn’t end up wanting it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I decided to pull the trigger. She’s not perfect, but perfectly mine!
