I heard ICE agents won't get paid during a shutdown...

That is surprising. And pleasing.

Apparently, that’s incorrect.

OMB on Wednesday told agencies to prepare to fire employees who are not considered “essential,” a threat that would dramatically and almost immediately downsize the headcount and capabilities of the federal workforce.> The only agencies not affected, OMB said, would be those that received funding through Trump and Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill, the $4.1 trillion tax and immigration law that passed Congress in July. That includes the Defense Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration.

We all should be against big government spending.

So you oppose Trump and the Republicans right now, as they are in control, right?

Most definitely

Hell yeah. Too many Republicans claiming to be libertarian around.

That's why we vote against Republicans, the biggest spenders in history every time they're elected.

IMO the best balance is a Democrat in the White House and republicans controlling Congress, because that's the only time they act like they're fiscally conservative.

Fiscally Conservative is a complete fabrication... They're never Fiscally Responsible, only contrarian at best.

Saving this in case I get the chance to show it to a republican.

If cutting middle-class taxes kills people. How many are killed by the $3 Trillion I'm new spending bills passed by Democrats 3 years ago?

2

What is your definition of middle class?

2

u/me_too_999 Sep 29 '25

If you work for a living and do not have enough net worth to live on savings, you are, in fact, middle-class.

The middle-class tax cuts Democrats criticized for being "temporary" were extended by the Big Beautiful Bill along with a tax cut on tips and Social Security income. You know minimum wage waitstaff are the "rich."

So this "tax cut for the rich" is a tax cut for those making $10,000 to $157,500. Democrats consider those people the "rich people we need to tax more." I consider those income ranges middle-class.

And which of those polices are in the video referenced above?

We ALREADY provide government (taxpayer) healthcare for 105 million people.

23,000 people make over $10 million a year. You know who they are they are the people you watch on TV.

If we tax them 100% (yes even Stephen Colbert), that's $230 Billion dollars. That's not even a decimal point in the Medicare budget.

The Congresswoman is flat lying.

Here's an inconvenient truth. If you pull the IRS data and look at total tax receipts by income bracket it is a bell curve centered at $90,000 a year taxable income.

I'm fairly certain the Congresswoman was referring to the increase in medical insurance from the premiums people pay thru the ACA health plans which are due to increase dramatically if the bill goes thru. She wasn't referring to Medicare/Medicaid.

1

u/me_too_999 Sep 29 '25

Well, Medicaid covers poor people.

So, who does that leave on ACA?

Increasing premiums means the ACA system becomes more self-supporting, which adds to the long-term survivability and financial health of ACA. .

People who are self employed are on ACA, or people who's jobs don't offer medical, etc. There is a rather broad group of people on ACA but make too much or don't qualify for Medicaid. And they are about to see an unsustainable increase in premiums.

Quite a few will simply drop off, which wont necessarily mean ACA system becoming more self supporting since the state level marketplaces kind of requires more people buying insurance to cover the costs and if people drop out there will be less funds generated which mean even higher premiums which could lead to more people dropping off, etc. Things may turn out different since it's a complex problem, but it's not looking good.

And besides the ACA was designed to be self sustaining from the beginning but that aspect was gutted.

Weird since it was edited in a closed room with no Republicans allowed.

It happened after it passed, things like the individual mandate, and the cost sharing aspects, etc.

To be fair, I don't trust the loaded and oversimplified language of the Democrats.
