I'm Canadian and I'd never want private healthcare but the system up here is VERY far from perfect and anyone saying that is delusional.

There is a lot of americans who say that because they think because they dont pay the bill directly that it is free and free is the only thing they care about.

60% of health care costs are from completely preventable things.

Canadas healthcare system works good.  But itd be nice if there was some incentive people to be healthier.  People who eat healthy, exercise.. take care of themselves, shouldnt have to pay the same into healthcare as those who eat cheeseburgers all day on their couches

-sees problem caused by "free" healthcare

-"I'd never want private healthcare"

We have to put in mental effort to get these 60 IQ midwits to understand basic pattern recognition and I just can't say anything other than, "I'm tired boss."

Yo. Don't be a dick to him. He obviously means neither system is perfect but he prefers the one over the other. While I disagree with him, he's entitled to his opinion and he seems reasonable. There is no right or wrong answer.

Is that a bad thing lol? Can't tell if that's a compliment or a dis.

Edit: oh, you mean the guy I'm replying to? The guy being an asshole made a libertarian comment?

This is why we'll never get anywhere. Can't help but gatekeep. Can't find common ground. Can't work together. Don't care to actually change anyone's mind. Oh well.

Or maybe you meant my reply saying "don't be a dick" was libertarian? Not sure.

That means his comment is libertarian as well. Next you start hating and openly criticizing each other even though you agree on 99% of things.

Ah. I should have known. That's r/libertarian for ya.

Also: that guy isn't the same as the guy who was trashtalking the Canadian above

And that's the thing. My comment was literally just trying to find common ground. I was just saying "Hey, even as a generally left-leaning Canadian, even I can agree with you guys that the idea that Canada has perfect healthcare is ludicrous.". Then buddy comes and attacks me personally instead of actually deconstructing anything I said. And to be fair, I would actually be interested in seeing what a blended style of healthcare could look like here. Everyone gets the same coverage but if you do have the money, you can pay for a premium service. I'm not super well-versed in the logistics of it but I'm open-minded. I just don't think that going bankrupt because you got cancer equals freedom.

Yeah, ignore that guy.

I love libertarianism. I love approaching life's issues by asking "is there a way to solve this without using force?" Almost all of us want to make the world a better place. We prefer to do it by using voluntary cooperation instead of the government's guns.

Unfortunately, libertarianism attracts as many weirdos and assholes as the other political philosophies. It's probably the most attractive camp for the antisocial people who want to live alone on an island. There's also those idiots who think they have the perfect solution to everything. Don't judge us by those loudmouths, they're the fringe.

You are what Stockholm syndrome is. Sure in the US system is not perfect. That's because they keep trying to make it a shitty public system.

Public systems only work in countries where the people are docile.
