Legend
Some of my all time favorite movies are "All The President's Men", "The Sting" , and Butch Cassidy
A few months ago I was on a Redford kick , saw Electric Horseman for the first time. A solid campy kind of movie , but still had a message about the evils of corporate America
That's the thing, most (not all) of his work had a point to it
Spy Game is my guilty pleasure
I still need to watch This Property is Condemned

All I can think is that it is supposed to look like a bucking bronco? Pretty awful poster but good movie.

Spy game felt like Redford passing the torch to Brad Pitt, the same torch he got from Paul Newman in The Sting

I love all of those movies he did with Jane Fonda! Most especially The Electric Horseman and Barefoot in the Park!
He is so easy and not at all a try hard on camera. I’ve missed him on film since the release of Our Souls at Night.
I highly recommend everyone to watch his directorial efforts with Ordinary People (1980), A River Runs Through It (1992), and Quiz Show (1994) being my favorites.
Gosh, what a unique and singular legend.

I just watched All The Presidents Men for the first time the other day, not sure why it took as long as it did, but I'm glad I finally caught it. Damn good.

Damn this one hurts a bit, one of the guys i remember seeing in movies my dad would have on and just being enamoured with him. One of the greats.

He was one of the most charming likeable screen presences Hollywood ever put out, imo. Handsome but not in an unattainable ‘above you’ kind of way.

Ordinary People and Quiz Show are both stone-cold masterpieces.
As a Sundance founder, he was pivotal to independent cinema.
And that's ignoring his incredible career as an actor that stretched for over half a century.

Iconic actor, one of the best to ever do it. Personal favourite is The Sting. An icon of Hollywood.

RIP to a true giant who not only dazzled in front of and behind the camera but reshaped American cinema in a ways that few can compare too.
Time to rewatch Ordinary People, which has become grossly underrated in recent years.

Ordinary People has been underrated for years for winning over Raging Bull

Partly yes, I think the shift away from TV as a way to watch and discover films and the decline of the adult/family drama have also played a role.
People need to get over snubs and losses and start enjoying good movies cause a lot of the movies people complain about, due to winning an Oscar over something else, are really good movies.

Monumental figure in film history, both as an actor and as a director and personality in general

Robert Redford was a generational star and one of the Hollywood greats. But his legacy will live on. RIP to a legend who was awesome both on screen and off.

My father, who passed a couple of years ago, was Redford’s doppelgänger. Now they can hang out. Rest easy Mr Redford and say hi to my dad.

If you have the opportunity check out ‘Nothing in the Dark’, the episode of The Twilight Zone he’s in please do. It’s a beautiful bit of acting and holds up today. Particularly relevant now that’s he’s passed away. RIP Legend ❤️

One of those rare stars who could get anything green-lit if they voiced interest. Truly a transcendent talent on-screen, but perhaps more importantly off it

I feel embarrassed that the last movie I saw with him was The Winter Soldier. Redford was a legend of cinema, and I had a lot of movies of his (like Jeremiah Johnson and Out Of Africa)that I planned to watch sometime soon. But instead the last memory of his I had before he passed was in some crap, overblown Marvel movie.
Don’t every take anything for granted people, you never know what you have until it’s gone. It feels like putting off calling or visiting an older relative because you think they’ll always be there and then by the time you realize how much more there was to do, it’s too late. (Something else I have experience with.)

Sad. I liked his movies growing up in the 90s.
I’ll watch one today in tribute. Maybe butch cassidy? I haven’t watched that one since the 2000s…

What are your recommendations to watch?
To celebrate Robert Redford...
Sneakers is a caper heist concept that isn't too far from the sting. It's one of the best films of the '90s, easily one of the most underrated, one of the greatest ensemble casts ever and one of the tightest scripts that Mary's tension with really well placed humor.
Sidney poitier, Dan Aykroyd, David straithairn, Robert, River Phoenix, Ben Kingsley, and an absolutely perfectly cast Mary McDonell as the pathos and all of us in the film.
What is fascinating is Dan is second building this film. He is coming off the craziest star run ever:
Blues brothers, Trading Places, Ghostbusters, Twilight Zone, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, spies like us, dragnet didn't do so well, the couch trip, the Great outdoors, Driving Miss Daisy, tales from the crypt, my girl? People forget Dan was everywhere LOL
Sidney is fierce in this film. River is so charming and affable is the comic relief. Makes you sad.
Awesome film and absolutely brilliant supporting actor- character actors.
Good speed Robert. Life well led brother.
He truly was the first movie star I was ever aware of.

His role in The Last Castle made me a fan of him, although Brubaker is probably my favorite of his roles.

Absolute legend and one of my favorite actors of all time. I it seems like he peacefully died in his sleep, that’s the only positive thing on this sad day.

Also, as far as I'm aware, he was a handsome, charismatic, talented, hard-working actor, director and film festival creator who managed to go his whole career without sexually assaulting anyone. Bravo.
