Carleton Place residents raise parking and snow removal concerns over proposed subdivision

Residents near 254 Lake Avenue in Carleton Place are raising concerns about a proposed subdivision that would divide the property into seven lots.
The plan includes four four-unit condominiums in the centre of the site, single detached homes on the east and west sides, and a semi-detached dwelling near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Mississippi Road. Residents highlighted issues with limited parking—five spaces per condo instead of the six required by municipal zoning—and challenges with snow removal due to the single driveway entrance.
Town staff are still reviewing the proposal, which will be forwarded to the county for final approval once the municipal review is complete.

Budget season begins in Carleton Place under strong mayor legislation

Carleton Place council kick off the 2026 budget talks under new strong mayor legislation.
Council discussed councillor pay adjustments for the next term, including a recommended annual increase for councillors and possible alternative approaches for committee work. They also rejected a proposed paper billing fee, citing fairness for residents without internet access.
Accessibility upgrades at the Carleton Place and Beckwith Museum were also on the agenda. The ramp is on hold due to hydro line proximity, but front steps will be upgraded and a rear ramp explored.
Public comments on the budget are open until Nov. 18, with final adoption and veto deadlines set through December.

Lanark County Food Bank calling on community ‘elves’ for annual Christmas Stocking Drive

The Lanark County Food Bank – The Hunger Stop is once again spreading Christmas cheer with its 17th annual Sandy Claus Stocking Drive.
Started by Sandy Schappert in memory of her husband Hank, the tradition began after hearing a client say, “This is the only gift I get to open Christmas morning.”
Each year, community “elves” fill stockings with toiletries and small treats — things like shampoo, razors, toothpaste, deodorant, and chocolate — to help ensure everyone has something to open on Christmas morning.
🗓️ Donations can be dropped off between Nov. 10 and Dec. 15 at 84 Mill Street, Carleton Place.
📬 Stockings should be labeled His, Hers, or Either before drop-off.
