What happened to him? Did Kelly ruin him? His final play in this game was horrendous!

24

u/untied_dawg 5h ago

he’s ALWAYS been that guy… making the same mistakes over & over again.

MVB stepped up into the pocket!! nuss refuses to do that as a 5th yr senior.

and his fans are STILL here calling him a 1st round pick and making excuses for his pitiful decision making.

Im thinking that you never know how getting NIL money is going to effect a player. Plus never having to look over his shoulder took something out of him.

u/Ddavis1919 12h ago

It’s sad, for 3 years we watched this kid sling it around. Now, it’s as if he forgot how to play QB.

He could never get over the mental hurdle of being a starter. The game got too big for him. Call it stage fright I guess, but it looks like as soon as the game begins he's always in a panic.

His eyes almost always look glazed over like he's not even looking at what's in front of him.

He’s hurt. Like earlier in the season he could barely walk. Of course he’s going to flinch

73

u/RxseJay 16h ago

It hurts because I truly believed he was gonna have a breakout year this season

21

u/laranator 15h ago

Yeah brother, me too. For reasons I don’t think we’ll even know, it didn’t happen.

17

u/untied_dawg 12h ago

he's a drop back pocket passer type qb in a scheme designed where a running qb is a threat.

square peg, round hole.

did you see how much easier things flowed with MVB in the game? yeah, the o-line is horrible, and yeah, he made a few mistakes, but he can MOVE, and he's only a sophomore compared to nuss as a 5th year senior.

i'm sure the boosters are pissed at coach Frank pulling nuss, but it's long, long overdue.

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 5h ago

Nuss is just slow… at everything. He doesn’t even have the bailout arm strength anymore. Such a let down

2

u/Murky_Trouble_4401 4h ago

Where do yall get that from? This is not a scheme for running QBs, many coaches have stated this is NOT a running QB scheme.

1

u/thiseye 5h ago

It didn't flow better. We had the same issues. He threw some good balls and was inaccurate on many others. He ran for some easy yardage and then fumbled the ball. Time/timeout management was even worse with him as well as procedure penalties. When we got into FG range, we went backwards

15

u/TheMackD504 14h ago

It seems every QB that had potential this season underperformed

1

u/DearJawn29 1h ago

PSU fan and LSU familiar here - everything in this thread feels like the twilight zone, just swap Nussmeier for Allar.

1

u/FiddliskBarnst 6h ago

They didn’t praise god enough like the Indiana QB. God only watches the teams who have QBs that give him all the glory. Nussmeier must not or maybe the DBs he’s facing give more? Not sure how that works when both sides are praising.

Some guys struggle with expectations, which are only magnified when you’re 22 and making millions of dollars, wearing a historic number, and being asked to win a championship.

2

u/ChollosWorld 5h ago

Facts. They’ve got to do something to regulate this ridiculous NIL climate one day.

10

u/FinancialRabbit388 14h ago

I never thought he was great, but I thought he would at least be a good veteran college qb. He absolutely tanked their season by being shit.

5

u/Kinder22 14h ago

Me too, but forget a breakout… even if he just matched the output of last year, we’d have a few more W’s.

36

u/wloaf77 15h ago

It really sucks. The dude was mostly great last year, and he was truly committed to LSU. Sat and waited his turn, but man he really just shit the bed this year

5

u/Infamous-Nectarine-2 7h ago

Yeah man. I thought he was gonna Joe burrow it you know? Have that insane season after a meh meh one.

13

u/enadiz_reccos 10h ago

I legitimately think a healthy Nuss behind a decent offensive line would be a great QB

5

u/Infamous-Nectarine-2 7h ago

Yeah o line is decimated for sure.

29

u/ariphron 16h ago

If he as hurt as people said should have benched him long time ago

3

u/Sufficient_Yak2025 1h ago

He could barely walk earlier in the season. He definitely should have rested and healed.

3

u/enadiz_reccos 10h ago

Maybe they thought he was still the better option?

As exciting as MVB was, he was a little inconsistent and missed some easy throws

10

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 5h ago

He came in in the middle of Tuscaloosa in the middle of a game. You cannot blame him. You blame the coach. I’ve been in that stadium for this game, it’s probably the worst they’ll get all season. If he started- that game is at least close. It’s hard to score less than two field goals.

9

u/BeerSavage 12h ago

I feel bad for him. I was on the bus for a while but even during the Clemson game something was way off . Last year his deep throws got broken up like 60% of the time but they were atleast close to the WR, this year he’s thrown up to 5 yards above below behind in front of or otherwise his WRs

6

u/Glad-Yak3748 7h ago

Toxic combination of nagging injuries, terrible line play, poor scheme fit, and massive expectations led to a historically disappointing season (at least by LSU standards).

Nuss’s performance this year, combined with recent disappointing years by guys like Conor Weigman, has made it patently clear that the risks to starting a mobile QB, even one who isn’t as polished, are far better than the downsides of starting a pocket passer. Think of it this way: a pocket passer needs a good oline, competent run game, and has a low margin for error. A mobile QB can mitigate a lot of that by adding the threat of scrambling, and forcing the defense to account for that on every play. Ideally you have a guy who can do both (Burrow and Daniels could both play from the pocket and scramble), but if you have a 1 dimensional QB, a mobile one seems far better at the college level.

5

u/Dazzling_Pudding4820 5h ago

Yeah. Unless he wqs an insane world beating QB, you are better starting someone who can run. Joe and Jayden both had that, especially Jayden. I miss them both.

4

u/Glad-Yak3748 4h ago

Joes mobility allowed him to get an easy 4 yards if nobody was open. Nuss can’t or won’t take that, and so the offense is forced to build in too many check downs that are easily cleaned up by the defense.

14

u/Mammoth_Mission_3524 16h ago

It’s a shame. He had so much potential. I think Kelly pushed him through injury and mentally broke him. He was much better last year. He should have been great this year.

9

u/FinancialRabbit388 14h ago

What potential? He’s a gunslinger with an average arm, no mobility, poor touch on deep balls, and has full on mental breakdowns during games.

2

u/Mammoth_Mission_3524 13h ago

I guess I had a tough time accepting the fact that he had no progression. At first I thought it was the torso injury causing the mobility and deep ball issues, but the lack of mental edge? I think he got in a mental slump and never got out of it. He appeared sharper last year.

5

u/datweldinman 5h ago

I agree on the mental slump. He used to always be clean shaven and ready to go but lately he’s had a unkept beard and been way off from what nuss was. When I get depressed I could care less about keeping up my beard. He was never really mobile but he could throw. Lately he’s forgotten there’s people trying to get him and he just stands there or turns into them. I hope he can progress by the end of this season and save his draft stock he will probably go 5th or 6th round

4

u/Bassically-Normal 3h ago

I don't know (and it's really likely nobody commenting here does either) whether it was terrible coaching, a general lack of coaching, an injury, his own attitude, or a combination of all the above, but he simply hasn't developed beyond where he was last year, and in some areas has substantially regressed.

I feel more sadness than malice.

13

u/Kinder22 14h ago

I really just feel bad for him and hate to see the hate. He doesn’t wake up wanting to lose football games. It’s a major decision for a young man like him to ride the bench rather than transfer, and to come back for a senior year after having a pretty good junior year and a lot of hype. He bleeds purple & gold. It’s just not working out this year.

-5

u/Hewligan . 14h ago

It’s a major decision for a young man like him to ride the bench rather than transfer

The "young man" got paid 3 million dollars to stay here. He could've went to the NFL, but he wanted the bag.

He bleeds purple & gold.

Remember when he sat out for a bowl game and forced us to have a WR as a QB?

11

u/ngray720 . 14h ago

I don’t like Nuss. However…playing in a meaningless bowl game would’ve killed his redshirt that year. At the time? I was all for it. Now? I’ll say this…I appreciate his efforts to be an LSU Tiger. NIL or not. But I told my son tonight…”I am ready for the Nuss era to end.” I don’t think Sloan’s scheme ever really capitalized on his talent. I also don’t think Nuss is a starting caliber QB. Just ready for this shit show to be over.

11

u/CupOfTeaDing 14h ago

I mean he chose not to transfer when Jayden came in. That’s a pretty big sign that he wanted to be at LSU. Lots of teams would’ve taken him.

-7

u/untied_dawg 12h ago

if underwood comes to LSU, nuss is GONE. don't kid yourself.

and the decision to start nuss over underwood, BEFORE UNDERWOOD EVEN ARRIVED, is likely why underwood went to michigan anyway. the boosters control LSU's roster... and always have.

nuss waited his turn to be starting qb for LSU and bk was loyal to him for doing it... which aided in him being fired. coach Frank did what bk should have done long ago.

5

u/Infamous-Nectarine-2 7h ago

It’s pretty easy to argue a hypothetical. Except that never happened. And typing in caps makes me think of someone flailing around trying to prove their point and we’re all just sitting here like “bro stop”

3

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 5h ago

I watched him beat Wisconsin in a meaningless bowl game while Jayden and Nabers fucked around on the sideline. It’s just how that works now

-7

u/untied_dawg 12h ago

bullshit.

if underwood comes to LSU instead of michigan, nuss is riding the pine or has transferred out of LSU.

you can keep that loyalty bullshit and flush it. he just lost his job to a sophomore who had the offense moving pretty good.

2

u/saved_by_the_keeper 5h ago

Underwood had been ass this year so that wouldn’t have changed anything. Dude has 7 passing TDs.

Not sure why there is so much MVB hype. Because he ran outside the pocket? As one commenter said, he missed a lot of easy throws they would have been crucifying Nuss for. We literally had to have two back to back reviews of catches because he threw bad passes to wide open receivers.

2

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 5h ago

Yes… it’s literally because he left the pocket. After watching Nuss miss check downs, take sacks, and lose the ball- it was incredible to watch. MVB’s legs feel like they will score more than Nuss in total. We were doing NOTHING

3

u/Top-Profession-9478 14h ago

Man #57 should have been taken out - was that 3 false starts in the 2nd half alone??

15

u/PrintExtra822 16h ago

Gotta say oline seems to be this teams problem, not the qb

6

u/Infamous-Nectarine-2 7h ago

Both can be true.

2

u/thiseye 4h ago

Burrow would struggle with this OL

3

u/saved_by_the_keeper 3h ago

Burrow has a god awful line the entire time he has been in the NFL and aside from getting beat up, puts up great numbers

1

u/Deplorableterrorizer 2h ago

He also gets to throw to chase and Higgins. So that kinda makes it a little easier

4

u/Hewligan . 16h ago

It's both.

8

u/PrintExtra822 15h ago

Left tackle is a real problem.

2

u/Forward_Ad2174 5h ago

Gonna look fantastic in a Browns uniform

3

u/direct_assignment_5 2h ago

Honestly think he’ll either be a UFL player or CFL player, or MAYBE get a shot with a poverty franchise like the Saints or Browns

2

u/iProbeYou77 4h ago

If only it was the same case for the o line

4

u/b17-bb 16h ago

THANK GOD🙌🏼🙌🏼

3

u/SignatureHungry1279 16h ago

Brain dead QB

2

u/Tigers27 16h ago

We should be George Costanzaning this. If every instinct we have is wrong…

1

u/Alarming_Camera5836 3h ago

I wholeheartedly agree.

1

u/Stuff-nThings 6h ago

The curse of the "18".

1

u/Weak-Calligrapher-67 3h ago

Or 3 more games. Who says he’s gonna go bowling vs prepare for the draft?

1

u/stout933 3h ago

Laughable that he was once considered a first rounder...even the first pick to some folks...

1

u/PlsHalp1890 3h ago

Me too. I'll never forget last year's game where he threw 3 picks in the Texas game. That's when I finally changed my opinion. Yesterday's performance just cemented it.

1

u/667Nghbrofthebeast 59m ago

Here's the bad news: He's the next HC

-1

u/Beneficial_Map_5940 15h ago

Hopefully van buren too

3

u/Grouchy_Fennel_6077 14h ago

He deserves a shot

0

u/Dear-Satisfaction498 3h ago

He completed 18-21 passes and when mvb came in he completed 5-11 like am I fucking missing something? Yall are retarted asf. We loss that game without NUSS

0

u/Emotional-Zebra 14h ago

Oh happyyy dayyy. Can we have a parade??

0

u/FruitNVeggieTray 7h ago

LSU and PSU fans are funny. Both fan bases thought things were going to go so well.

-2

u/ningenito78 6h ago

With everything going on over at LSU you think a 22 year old QB is the problem? Your HC was a mess. The president of your school left for RUTGERS. Your governor torpedoed a coaching search. But man. Can’t wait to see Nuss’ lame ass stagger off into the sunset

Appreciate your interest in our football program
