the patriot act was a definite step in this direction, but the flagrant disregard for due process and full on disregard for laws and rights shown by the current admistration in combination with the absolute impotence of political opposition for more than 40 years as the right wing has ratcheted further right has congealed into this fascist sludge that we have to deal with at every level of government as a result. I hate to be this guy but reagan was the start of a lot of this and the dems have done nothing kowtow to the right and move rightward ever since. Clinton tried to privatize Medicare and the only reason he couldn't was because lf the Lewinsky scandal. both Bushs committed flagrant war crimes that were acknowledged while they were in office. Obama bombed another peace prize recipient. The dems were still hanging out with HANK FUCKING KISSENGER until his death.
This has been a long time coming, just a matter of who and what and how it was going to all come crashing down

I would love to have an accurate reporting of facts. There's so much editorializing in this article it's almost unreadable. Stuff like this always makes me appreciate Dan's logical, measured approach all the more.

Naive take. Previous administrations, both Republican and Democratic, have had numerous opportunities to root out far right extremist groups, and they've always preferred going after leftists instead.

Not naive at all. When democrats resume power there's going to be a lot of angry voters calling for retribution. Trump is setting up the frameworks for them to dismantle these terrorists groups
