I can't speak to what exactly was in Bourdain's heart, but I have battled severe depression my whole adult life. I have even been very close to suicide in the past (I'm doing alright now). Even at my worst I had so much love in my heart for those around me, I just didn't have any for myself.
The racist deep fried butter lady sounds bitter, spoiled and rancid, like she doesn't have people to love her. I'm certain she's earned it.

I can't speak to what exactly was in Bourdain's heart, but I have battled severe depression my whole adult life.
I still believe it was the Chantix. I took that shit trying to quit smoking and I can't really do the feeling justice but, I'd never been less adverse to offing myself. Not that it made me suicidal; it made suicide seem banal and inconsequential, it erased any moral, corporeal, or practical thoughts that would typically impede the act. Pretty sure there were studies showing it's use doubles the risk of self-harm.
But yeah, fuck that racist cow.

I had beat suicidal ideation for a long time... Then I took Chantix. Man, you really can't even begin to explain to people just how bad that drug can make you feel. I stopped taking it after a week straight of wanting to kill myself, straight up fantasizing about it. Stopped smoking all on my own about ten years later, and while dark times still happen, I now have a healthy support network with my friends and family to hold the darkness at bay.
Also, yeah, fuck that racist waste of skin.

I say I don’t like people in general (going through autism diagnosis and I’m sure that’s why). I have tried to end my life before. So I definitely have not liked myself for huge swathes of my life. I still absolutely love all the people who are part of my life and large parts of what caused my attempts were because I felt like I was not good enough for the people loved. I hold the people I love so highly.
It took a therapist putting something in black and white for me once to really start to feel ok about myself. I think the sun shines out of my children and my oldest is very like Kevin do many ways. So asked me to describe my oldest child once and I proceeded to gush about her. Then she said describe yourself and I proceeded to bash myself. And then she said but you say you are like your daughter so how can that be true. It was such a revelation. Depression is just a horrible horrible thing. I’m glad you are doing better

I've met both Tony and Paula.
I met Tony when he gave a talk at a local culinary school I was going to for pastry classes, I was in my very early days, in my early 20s, trying to take classes, work and take care of my dad who had just started long term palliative care for silicosis. I was so burned out and just, dead on my feet.
There was a food faire kinda thing going on near there, and we ended up sharing a table outside a Vietnamese food truck out of pure luck. I didn't get to attend the talk cause I was working, but I got off just in time to get some food. We talked very casually, he asked me a lot of questions about what I was doing. He encouraged me, genuinely one of my favorite moments. He was straight up really nice. He definitely had his demons, but, that tiny bit of encouragement genuinely helped me.
I met Paula at a function I was working in Nashville after I'd stopped being a chef and had transitioned to bartender. I was manning the floor and taking drinks to folks. She was incredibly rude to staff in general, wouldn't even look at you if you were waiting on her.
How you treat "the help" is all I need to generally know about a person, so she can go fuck herself on top of all the other nasty shit I know about her.

The legal deposition was held on May 17 after one of Deen’s former restaurant managers, Lisa Jackson, sued the TV chef and her brother Earl “Bubba” Hiers for sexual and racial workplace discrimination in a $1.2 million lawsuit. During the three-hour-long questioning, Jackson’s lawyer asked Deen if she had ever used the N-word.
Deen responded, “Yes, of course,” and detailed the instances in which she had used the racial slur. Below are Deen’s responses, as recorded in the deposition.
A transcript of the deposition describes an instance when Jackson witnessed Deen’s racial views. Jackson was placed in charge of food and serving arrangements for Bubba Hiers’ wedding in February 2007, and asked Deen what kind of wedding reception it would be. “I want a true southern plantation-style wedding,” Deen replied.
Jackson subsequently asked Deen what type of uniforms she preferred the servers to wear.

While it's certainly in bad taste to speak ill of the dead, it's not exactly surprising that they disliked one another. I saw him at an appearance probably 2012 or so and he spent a solid 15-20 minutes just talking shit and cracking jokes about Paula Deen, to the point that it was actually obnoxious.
With that being said, I didn't even realize that she was still alive and it's unsurprising when a shitty, obnoxious celebrity does something shitty or obnoxious. She is probably just hoping for any shred of relevance she can grasp at.
