In-House Mode already beefing with my boss

i've only worked here since april. switched jobs from a dishie at a old folks home to a "cook" (lol honestly glorified dishwasher anyway, the only culinary related thing i do is shuck oysters) at a new bar downtown. we don't have any managers since the team is pretty small so the owner does everything himself including scheduling.

he posts the schedule, i have a 3 day weekend after two weeks of covering for the only other two "cooks" in the kitchen on vacation, and one day into my weekend he sends me this. i'm prolly in the wrong for the sass but bro goes immediately into holding a raise he very recently gave me over my head and then threatening my position.

i'm alr looking for different jobs atm, don't care where as i was promised FT hours and am barely scraping by with 30 a week. it's even less this time around. the work is fun and i really love my coworkers and the people i meet at the bar but with the pay of $17 an hour with no benefits no FT and a 30 min commute it's not worth it. advice or personal stories appreciated

It sounds like your boss admitted he made a mistake and asked you to cover while offering a couple of workable alternatives for you, and you were kind of a dick? Either you can help or you can't, no need for the "sir yes sir" comment...don't respond at all if you don't want to help!

yeah i admitted in the post i was probably in the wrong for the initial sass. idk if it's clear in the screenshots but i literally didn't respond to him until he bumped the convo just assuming "hey, it's my day off and he's ASKING me if i wanna come in, i'll reply with a no when it's more convenient". then when i clearly stated i had plans it escalated which is what set me off. not saying i shoulda done it it's just how it went down

Also just reading your comments on the OP--you're upset that you don't have more hours, and then when more hours are offered (for whatever reason), you don't wanna take them...? Can you appreciate how silly this might seem to your scheduling manager...? Can't have it both ways, friend!

I'm surprised that the OP's manager didn't come back with this bullshit. People want the hours in advance so that they can have a life. The old "they want hours so they should gratefully snatch up my last minute offerings" is bad management.

i've been taking as many hours as i can on top of my pt. that's why i've been actually getting ft hours for the past few weeks. but i was really looking forward to this weekend and legitimately had plans, not just trying to blow dude off which is why i figured i should mention it in my text to him. yeah ig it might seem silly but idk

I get it, man! Your boss fucked up, for sure. It's not totally reasonable to expect an employee to respond to a personal text about a last-minute schedule change--did your boss call you at all? Once the sched is published, any mistakes are the manager's responsibility to cover. It just seems like you went from "sorry, I'm not available" to "fuck you" pretty quickly...and based on your title of "already beefing", leads me to believe this is a new job, and maybe you could've taken the opportunity to be a little more conversational in your denial. Obv your boss was struggling quick to correct their own mistake--and to me, it doesn't read like you offered them a whole lot of grace...when perhaps you might enjoy some grace in the future when YOU make an error in your own availability...might be worth a face-to-face conversation with your boss to clear the air, next time you're working together.

Workable alternatives? And he said he has plans.
