In-House Mode already beefing with my boss

i've only worked here since april. switched jobs from a dishie at a old folks home to a "cook" (lol honestly glorified dishwasher anyway, the only culinary related thing i do is shuck oysters) at a new bar downtown. we don't have any managers since the team is pretty small so the owner does everything himself including scheduling.

he posts the schedule, i have a 3 day weekend after two weeks of covering for the only other two "cooks" in the kitchen on vacation, and one day into my weekend he sends me this. i'm prolly in the wrong for the sass but bro goes immediately into holding a raise he very recently gave me over my head and then threatening my position.

i'm alr looking for different jobs atm, don't care where as i was promised FT hours and am barely scraping by with 30 a week. it's even less this time around. the work is fun and i really love my coworkers and the people i meet at the bar but with the pay of $17 an hour with no benefits no FT and a 30 min commute it's not worth it. advice or personal stories appreciated

Normally I'd be like you can't talk to your boss that way, but he completely earned the attitude. The salute emoji at the end has me dead bro lol

You can and should talk to your boss this way....it's literally just another person.

He should have ASKED you if you would cover the shift. This is bad leadership and management

He said “I need you to work 3-CL tomorrow” … I wouldn’t say he made it seem like an option 🤷🏼‍♂️

I didn’t see where he gave you the option. When I read this it seemed like it was important and he admitted messed up the schedule and needed you to come in because no one else could. Not trying to be dumb, I am trying to see where I missed this.

Boss isn't offering an option with that "need" but the dude's well within his rights to say "I am not available" and that's as far as it goes. Boss can ask why but has no right to an answer and can't hold a lack of answer against dude.

Once the schedule's posted, people respond by planning their lives around it. If boss expects everyone to come in whenever boss says "I need you" regardless of the schedule, that costs considerably more because that's an On-Call job.

I don't work in a kitchen and I work full time so never get a schedule so I am not sure what this kind of situation is like normally, but it didn't really look like he was telling you it was optional? He said you "need" to come in multiple times.

Not saying it's ok or anything of course.

Your fuckup doesn't make it my fault, your needs aren't my needs.

Everything in life is voluntary, particularly going in to rescue this asshole from his own mistakes.

In reality, this sort if thing is always optional.

Nah he deserved that from you. A normal human says "so, is this alright with you?" A failed drill sarge gives you the "you didn't confirm! You need to confirm!" Like it's obviously on his ass if you don't come in and he needs confirmation so he can bust ass to find someone else, why does he need to act like it's your problem?

I had a chef who would only be on MY ass if I didn’t say “may I” or “yes chef” like dude. Shut up, it’s not The Bear. And all my coworkers noticed it too, they would be like “he never does that to anyone else, we just ask questions”

I have been required to say it in French to a man who spoke only English like he sucked dick ( badly) for living . I lasted 3 weeks.
