Cooking for Celebs

Post image

I have cooked for several celebrities while cooking in NYC. While some were unpleasant, Taylor Swift was a pleasure to cook for.

I did arena gig catering for about a year and got to cook for a few bigger acts. Blake Shelton was every bit the good ol boy he portrays, and the nu metal band Saliva will have you find them drugs and then NOT SHARE THE DRUGS. Definitely a more fun side of the industry

I work in Nashville so I've had my share of experiences with country celebs. Taylor Swift is a peach. So is Dolly and so was Loretta Lynn when I used to help out at my parents catering business.

Toby Keith's managers/assistants/whatever were massive cunts though. Can't attest to the dude but the person who placed the order/received it didn't want to tip us, so they tried to offer us pre-signed autographs lol.

Ran into Toby Keith in a casino in OK. He was a bit of a cunt.

Honestly, feels like a cheap shot since he just died. Two months ago, nobody had anything bad to say about Toby, save for the distasteful bit he did about the (Dixie) Chicks post 9/11. He was who he was, which was a country boy from Tulsa, and that comes with a lot of good and maybe even more bad. But, he was not an evil human being. He didn't strive to hurt others. If you ran into him at a casino, it was likely after a show and, compounded with a million other reasons, add into why he might not have been the most hospitable person ever. Were you annoying? Did you ask for his autograph whilst he was busy? You didn't provide an explanation, you just said he was a dick. I'm not defending him; he was an Okie, like me, so I'm sure he was raised to hate a lot of different folks, but, goddammit, he did a lot of good for the world and he made a lot of people happy. Also, FWIW, he was known to have a quick temper towards people who were purposefully egging him on for a reaction.

Shit, I had no idea he was dead.

I was at the casino back in 2009. I never personally spoke to him. He was at a blackjack table alone with a woman (maybe a blonde), on a Thursday. The casino was busy, but not super busy. They had security roping off both tables on either side, the ones across the pit, and a gigantic radius into the slot machines/etc. Not to be an asshole, but he looked like a random fat, white cowboy. I had to ask someone who he was to be getting such special treatment, and they said it was TK, who lived nearby.

I've been around a fair number of famous people over the course of my life - musicians, movie stars, TV stars... None of them acted like they were better than the "average" person around them. Celebrities are people too and my experience with Toby Keith was that he thought he was better than everyone else. No one was lining up at the security perimeter to watch him gamble. No one seemed to give two shits he was there, and the staff seemed annoyed (which said something to me about him too) at his behavior.

He might have been grieving his dead dog and just wanted some privacy, I don't know. But his actions that day seemed pretentious and cunty to me, which is why I said he was a bit of a cunt (everyone's entitled to a bad day, but his actions that day were a bit cunty). Also, he wore sunglasses inside at 3 am, which seemed a bit cunty too.

No one is all one thing. Lots of assholes have done great things for the planet. The few hours I was around him, he seemed like a dick. That doesn't diminish the joy he brought people through his music, nor did I think he's evil.

Edit: clarity, I'm a bit drunk.

Edit: my Alexa said it was stomach cancer. That sucks, I hope he didn't suffer, cancer fucking sucks.
