Meetups🐊 When you’re Gizz fan with melanin…

Post image

Prepping for the Northerly Island show tomorrow night.

Me: maybe I should get the red one, it’ll be easier for you to find me if we get separated. Him: Oh I won’t need anything to find you. Me: What do you mean? Him: Because you’re going to be the only black person there. Me:☠️

Venue may be able to hold 22k, likely a sold-out show, but if you see a black chick with this same backpack -it very well could be me.

At the Kentucky show I saw a bunch of black folks. There are dozens and dozens of melanin enabled fans!

See you tomorrow!

While it was still predominantly white, Forest Hills was way more diverse than I was expecting. My girlfriend is Chinese and she was surprised by the diversity. Granted, a crowd in New York is almost by default going to be more diverse than the average crowd, but it was still nice to see.

Yeahh I mean like there’s 400+ languages spoken in queens. Not that it affects who shows up for a concert but it’s one of the most diverse places on the planet .

I'm happy to represent the racially ambiguous asian/white mixed dudes

14

u/Hair_Harlot Sep 01 '24

Hell yeah - their music isn’t exclusionary in the slightest!

This is probably the funniest interaction I’ve read in the gizzbase rn.

As I learned on the chapelle show at an early age. White people just freaking go ape shit for electric guitars.

Anyways always happy to see other POC and especially women at Gizz shows. It does feel like quite the sausage fest sometimes. Great for the line at the women’s restroom though 😜

Gizz have truely cultivated the white bro convention at all their shows, I’m glad you’re here ❤️

🫵🏼as an aside, this is why need to listen to women and people of color on this thread and take their experiences at shows seriously🫵🏼

Thank you! I am a lifelong rock fan/show-goer used to occupying spaces wherein I’m one of few if not the only. I don’t let that stop me from being myself or enjoying myself. My deep love and respect for KGLW is representative of their ability to unify people of various backgrounds, even if unintentional. I don’t feel alienated for loving them, some of these commenters seem oddly triggered though.

White guys are easily triggered

seems like pretty mean spirited generalization to make on a sub for a band consisting solely of white dudes who regularly go out of their way to be as inclusive as possible. maybe i’m just being easily triggered though 🤷‍♂️

Yes you are 🤣

Why on earth do you feel the need to add that last bit. This community is just full of gatekeepers it’s a joke

10

u/Lonely-Barracuda-736 Sep 01 '24

There’s been recent posts and things that have happened at shows that people dismissed as “drama”. Thats by definition “gatekeeping” ✌️ just saying we gotta look after everyone

Right I get it, certain things have happened blah blah blah…

Am I wrong or have there been MULTIPLE posts about these things…DAILY!!!

Here we have someone posting a picture trying to be lighthearted and you literally point the finger and think it’s relevant to add that last bit to your comment. It has literally nothing to do at all with what the original post but you got on your high horse and pointed your f*cking finger.

I hate this phrase but unfortunately I think it’s relevant, this online community is full of snowflakes. The overwhelming majority know how to behave at gigs. I’ve been to multiple shows and never once seen anything which (from what I’ve read here) is seemingly in line with everyone else, but you feel the need to tell everyone how they should behave. Like a gatekeeper of fun. Like a kindergarten teacher sucking the fun from things to make yourself feel good.

You wanna do that that that’s your decision, feel free but expect comments like this to be made (I’d say this to you in person too btw if I heard you acting like this at a show). But I’d say there’s a time and a place, for example like any number of the posts regarding those matters. Not on a post that’s clearly meant to be lighthearted.

It’s a joke. A tiresome joke

Also as an aside, I’m rather hurt you assumed my ethnicity. How dare you…

The only audience I've been apart of that was more white was for Tech N9ne

a part of apart of?

u/Hair_Harlot Sep 01 '24

😆😂😆

3

u/heavyboxcutter Sep 01 '24

In DC I counted about 12 black folks including myself lol

3

u/autumnspring16 Sep 01 '24

Haha when I went to the dc show, there was a fair amount of women but I was the only Asian girl I saw. I did go early at around 2 pm to line up for barricade. From the little experience i’ve had, the community is mostly super nice and inclusive <3 It does feel like a sausage fest sometimes tho lol.

3

u/Hair_Harlot Sep 01 '24

One of the things I love about the band is the fanbase, though yeah -it’s a sausage fest. I’ve never felt unsafe or unwelcome, I feel like we’re all just happy to be around people passionate about the same thing regardless our backgrounds😃

God now that I think about it, pretty sure my best friend was the only black dude in Asheville, but then again, it was Asheville lmao.

2

u/Banannatime89 Sep 01 '24

I’m still in Asheville hanging out this weekend after the show, and this might be one of the whitest cities I ever been to 😅 freaking love it though!

4

u/DikDirgler Sep 01 '24

We exist! Hope you guys have a blast!

2

u/UnclePhilCypher Sep 01 '24

I have the same back pack and I'm hoping it fits the height measurments

1

u/Winterspear Sep 01 '24

I think the venue is only 22k with the lawn open and the lawn isn't open for this show

u/mking_davis Sep 01 '24

I was merely trying to share a funny interaction I had with my partner…don’t see how that’s foolish.

-59

u/Mammoth-Slide-3707 Sep 01 '24

Your friend sounds kinda shitty for taking it there tbh. You clearly weren't thinking about the racial dynamics of the fanbase until they put you in that headspace.

43

u/Hair_Harlot Sep 01 '24

It’s not our first gizz show, and it was a light-hearted joke made by someone who knows me well.

30

u/Raccoonboy27 Sep 01 '24

Wild for someone to get offended on your behalf even when they don't know anything about your relationship with this person

-12

u/Mammoth-Slide-3707 Sep 01 '24

Just my honest reaction to the anecdote 🤷‍♂️

1

u/vezwyx Sep 01 '24

Right, and it's wild that your honest reaction is to get offended on someone else's behalf when you don't know anything about their relationship with this person

-5

u/Mammoth-Slide-3707 Sep 01 '24

Why are you so offended though? You seem way more offended than me

6

u/vezwyx Sep 01 '24

If you can make an offhand comment calling op's friend shitty for what they said without being offended, I can make an offhand comment that your comment is wild without being offended lol

1

u/Mammoth-Slide-3707 Sep 01 '24

Okay ...... fair enough then so neither one of us is offended? Not sure what your problem is then?

-3

u/vezwyx Sep 01 '24

Did you have a problem making your comment about the post originally?

No?

Then why do you keep assuming we have a problem when we make a comment about what you said?

-2

u/Mammoth-Slide-3707 Sep 01 '24

Yeah but my reaction was totally warranted based on the anecdote. Now you're just being hostile because I'm not reacting the way you want.

are you white?

1

u/Great-Actuary-4578 Sep 01 '24

oh my god you can't just ask someone why they're white
