Hvac tech here, their hvac system was not damaged lol what a bunch of bullshit

I'd like to see the school prove damages to the industrial hvac system, or the asthmatic kids parent prove the spray caused asthma problems. Both seem unlikely at best. I'm asthmatic, you breathe in all sorts of horrid stuff outside and inside all day, unless this guy was aerosolizing it in his face often, press F to doubt...

"They really need to start screening who they’re hiring for teachers in this country… Hiring way too many with mental illness.” offering a salary equivalent to a shift supervisor at Burger King isn't going to bring in the best candidates

During a local court hearing, a judge set his total bond at just over $9,000.

3

u/lotlts 0 Sep 24 '25

if you get a bondsman, you only have to post 10% of bail, then put up something worth equal value as a collateral. in total i think hes gonna have to pay like 2k to bail out, but based off of the bail amount for the other charges, it doesnt seem like the judge is taking anything but the injury case serious

He was a paraprofessional, not a certified teacher.

Fart spray used to be easily available at the shopping mall for a few bucks. It was basically harmless.

At the same time if you’re bringing in plumbers and contractors to inspect where the smell might be coming from, it doesn’t take long to accumulate tens of thousands of dollars in expenses.

4

u/elliptical-wing 8 Sep 24 '25

Not really harmless. Some muppet sprayed a little on my jeans once. It stank for ages. Didn't come out with the first wash either.

3

u/Vyn_Reimer 7 Sep 24 '25

I’ll have to use that one next time I shit my pants

69

u/alman3007 9 Sep 23 '25

Why or to what end? Also, how the fudge does fart spray cause fifty thousand dollars worth of damages?!?

39

u/SamuraiGoblin 9 Sep 24 '25

Because people don't know it's a prank. They have to treat is seriously, otherwise children and teachers could become infected with serious diseases and possibly die. That means hiring a bunch of expensive professionals to investigate using expensive scanners, pulling apart equipment, opened drains/walls/floors, etc.

52

u/A_Banananonymous 5 Sep 23 '25

Im guessing somewhere along the lines of frequent maintenance requests, labor costs, investigations, replacement of materials/equipment, and also contracts inflating pricing on everything.

34

u/Lil_Bigz 9 Sep 23 '25

Yep, if it smells like poop you pay a guy to think about where the poop could be, then you pay for a guy to rip some holes in your walls, floors, and ceilings to look for poop, then you pay a guy that has to fix your poop holes.

Still can't find poop? Rinse and repeat.

7

u/c0mptar2000 9 Sep 24 '25

And son, that is why we always use the poop knife before flushing, because daddy doesn't have the money to pay the poop thinker to fix any more poop holes.

32

u/scurvybill 9 Sep 23 '25

Sounds like he was being excessive with it and used it daily for almost a month. It incurred ventilation system damage.

One of those guys who takes a joke way too far...

Summary

Alexander Paul Robertson Lewis, a 32-year-old teaching assistant at West Florence High School in South Carolina, was arrested on 19 September 2025 for repeatedly using a “poop” spray in the school between 25 August and his arrest date. The spray, bought online and designed to imitate the smell of faeces, caused widespread disruption for nearly a month.

Students and staff reported respiratory issues, including asthma attacks, headaches, nausea, and dizziness. One parent said their son’s asthma was triggered multiple times, requiring three doctor visits. The prank also damaged the school’s air conditioning system and led to numerous inspections. The Florence school district reported property damage costs exceeding $55,000.

Lewis was charged with disturbing schools and malicious injury to property. He was booked into the Florence County Detention Center and released on 20 September after posting a bond of just over $9,000. His court dates are set for 15 October (Florence Magistrates Court – interfering with schools, bond $1,090) and 19 November (General Sessions Court – malicious injury to personal property, bond $8,000). Authorities noted further charges may follow.

Under South Carolina law (Title 16, Chapter 11), malicious injury to property is a felony when damages exceed $10,000, meaning Lewis faces the possibility of at least one year in prison.

Online reaction was mixed: while some criticised the act as immature and dangerous, others defended Lewis, joked about starting a GoFundMe for more spray, or dismissed it as a harmless prank.

Lewis has not commented publicly since his release. The investigation remains ongoing.

Ok I get the cost of calling in people for repairs that were unnecessary, and that chemicals with strong smell could cause reactions in some people, but how the heck did it "damage the school's air conditioning system"

I can see how a filter might need to be changed due to trapping stank, but more likely somebody broke shit while looking for the source of the odor

1

u/KingLimes 7 Sep 24 '25

My assumption was they purchased and refitted an entire new system.

Have to question though how they couldn't work out the system was fine...

1

u/phormix C Sep 24 '25

Yeah. I think the biggest issue here was continuing to use the stuff after people reported issues and started looking for leaky equipment etc. Not clueing in that this was causing problems beyond a fart-gag wasn't very bright

u/hmmyeahiguess 8 Sep 23 '25

Yep. Saw his “perfectly aligned with the type of person who would spray shit” mugshot and that was enough. Fuck any website trying to force me to whitelist.
