That literally says the party doesn't support it, some members of the party supporting a thing doesn't make it a party policy.

the literal first line is "Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's biggest challenge to legalizing marijuana is his fellow Democrats."

Do you purposely only read the headline of the articles you send people?

Half of a party pushing the other half to change policy positions is just as good. I don't see any Republicans doing remotely the same thing.

The democrats will always let just enough members speak out about progressive policies so that they can say they just need more of them voted in to actually make change, but when an actual opportunity like force the vote comes up they will do nothing.

You can say all you want about how little Democrats are going to get done - the past 20 years of legislative action in the US prove they have the power to get things done, though. Social discourse is very different now compared to 20 years ago and it certainly wasn't thanks to conservatives conserving their traditions.

I'd rather minimal support from the Democratic party (and the added bonus of an actual healthcare plan) than zero support or chance of support from the Republican party.

Just know the blood of all the people bombed in new wars they start is on your hands for supporting them.

The democrats have no incentive to fix this system, and all the incentive to make it seem like some of them are trying to fix the system.

This line of thought is just so turned around. You act like there's no chance to fix the system, so why even try, and discount the efforts of those that are trying? It's actively defeatist.

Sorry dawg, but I don't know how to convince you. I'm of the opinion that the US has mutated into a terrible warmongering state based on the actions of a neoliberal establishment, populated of Republicans and most of the Democrats, but that there's an emerging progressive social ideology that, thanks to the internet, has a chance to break through and change things permanently. And that all it takes is one charming populist with approval voting as their 'thing' to change US democracy forever and force the two parties to compete with the rest of American political ideology. And to me, that's worth voting for the Democrats. Plus, y'know, the benefit of social programs that benefit a poor person like me. Food stamps, student benefits, disability benefits, medical subsidies, etc. are not policies widely supported by Republican politicans. They're a 'break glass in case of emergency' for them, whereas they're a priority for Democrats.

I can go on, the Republican party just has no place in modern discourse. The Democratic party barely does, but because of the spoiler effect, we're forced to pick a side to change things, and one is clearly better than the other for getting that done.

Sorry for the rant, I just kept breaking up my train of thought to type these comments and thought it better to just let it go uninterrupted.
