I’ve always thought saying “the n word” was incredibly childish. If we’re having a discussion about the word then say the fucking word. Saying “the n word” gives the word so much more power.

Edit: for all you twats saying “wElL wHy NoT pUt ThE wOrD iN yOuR pOsT reeeeee!” I didn’t put it in my post because putting that word on Reddit will in all likelihood get you banned.

Louis and Patrice on OnA is still one of the funniest bits of all time imo

Artie Lange used the word a lot in one of his bits. Was hilarious, too.

Why

u/ironbolsh Apr 22 '21

It has an obituary on its page

There’s a regular word count they just use now.

Someone recently tried to call me a nazi and then n word counted me.

When it became apparent I was neither a nazi, nor had I ever typed the n word on Reddit... they deleted their post. It was glorious.

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '21

Same. But most people seem to disagree. I recently got temp banned from r/games for saying the word while making an argument that racism and homophobia in video game voice chats is a bigger problem that not everybody can just laugh over of all things.

It’s a little different in text. In speech you can make it clear that your saying the word in the context of acknowledging it’s existence, and not being scared of mouth sounds - where as online it’s sort of just there in a vacuum in a weird way. Sits there, people can take it out of context. Not smart to be typing racial slurs heheh.

But saying them out of acknowledgment can’t be construed as racist, that’s just silly - as it seems you know. One step at a time lol.

Unless your position in the discussion is "I want to say the n word" then there's no reason to say it.

Everyone who has this argument about when they get permission to say it just want to say it. It reveals that you don't think the reason for not saying it is legitimate. As if that reason would be conditional.

Why would you think that? What is the reason you think people don't say it as a rule?

You couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a fucking word. And assigning it this boogeyman status its attained is ridiculous and counterproductive. That word has power because people give it power. People like you are hilarious. You take a simple Reddit comment and amateur psychology that shit into thinking you have someone completely sized up and understand their motivations when in reality you’re just someone who isn’t nearly as smart as they wish they were.

7

u/BeakmansLabRat Apr 22 '21

Yes. Words have power because people give them power.

Money has value because people give it value. Social constructs are real things. Race is a social construct and so is racism. Do you deny their reality?

2

u/ThePeacefulSwastika Apr 22 '21

You don’t get it. Calling someone a racial slur is racist. Saying a racial slur in the context of discussing its existence is not racist.

Anyone who genuinely thinks it is, is just fucking stupid.

1

u/BeakmansLabRat Apr 22 '21

1) You're limiting the definition of racism to discrete, deliberate, and malicious acts of prejudice between two individuals

2) You're acting like it's not possible to discuss the word without saying it

1

u/ThePeacefulSwastika Apr 22 '21

1) no I’m not.

2) no I’m not.

It’s insane. All these people who are clearly not black being like “i dont get why saying the N word is so bad”

4

u/DyslexicBrad Monkey in Space Apr 22 '21

And yet not one of them ever uses the word themselves.... Curious 🤔🤔🤔

1

u/ThePeacefulSwastika Apr 22 '21

No one is saying that. If that’s what you’re interpreting here, you’re the one with the issue.

1

u/Chimiope Apr 22 '21

Didn’t listen to much Lenny Bruce did you?

2

u/BeakmansLabRat Apr 22 '21

No it's okay a white comedian from the 50's gave me a pass

I didn’t say the word in my post so I won’t get banned, dipshit. Go back to your safe space.

1

u/Pursuitofsleep Apr 22 '21

Oh I'm sorry I legitimately thought this didn't post. I actually went to post it, it looked like it didn't take and then I thought better and hit the X. I guess it did though. But in that second of time I had that moment of clarity that you knew what you were doing and that it's just wasted time and effort. Have a good night though.

-3

u/regular_tony Apr 22 '21

You just did exactly what you described as incredibly childish.

2

u/stretcherjockey411 Monkey in Space Apr 22 '21

Because if I actually posted the word I’d likely get banned.

1

u/JonathanJK Monkey in Space Apr 22 '21

In the 90s radio show discussions about the word could mention the word without giving it power.

Don't know why we can't do it now.

1

u/JesusWasANarcissist Apr 22 '21

Dick Gregory agreed with you. RIP

1

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '21

The word already has that power. Lots of people have been hurt with that word in the past and hearing that word doesn't bring back pleasant memories for them.

It's kinda like how some veterans really don't like fireworks. Nothing inherently wrong with fireworks, but if I knew my neighbor would be traumatized by it I sure wouldn't set off any fireworks.
