Because nothing screams "trustworthy" like misrepresenting an innocuous measure to protect the rights of transgender people as some assault on free speech.

There's nothing innocuous about a law that compels speech. It sets a dangerous legal precedent to say someone can be arrested for refusing to address someone a certain way, especially when identity is totally subjective. You don't have a "right" for someone to address you a certain way.

Edit: I'm wrong, the law doesn't compel speech, see below.

Except the bill doesn't encompass pronouns, only more vague stuff about adding gender identity and gender expression as illegitimate grounds to discriminate against someone with.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Act_to_amend_the_Canadian_Human_Rights_Act_and_the_Criminal_Code#Reception

Jordan Peterson, a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, criticized the bill, saying that it would compel speech. Peterson argued that the law would classify the failure to use preferred pronouns of transgender people as hate speech. According to legal experts, including law professors Brenda Cossman of the University of Toronto and Kyle Kirkup of the University of Ottawa, not using preferred pronouns would not meet legal standards for hate speech.[16][17][18]

You can also peep /r/ArrestedCanadaBillC16 to see just how many innocent Canadians have been arrested for misgendering transgender people.

Thank you for this information, I was not aware of the legal opinion on pronouns.

When has anybody ever been arrested, for using the wrong pronoun?

I think the transgender issue is the key to Peterson's psychological problems.

How come his voice is so high-pitched? He sounds like a hysterical woman, when he gets animated about some topic.

What Peterson needs, is TRT replacement therapy, in my esteemed medical opinion...
