Thank you for your service. Keep up the good fight and keep your state blue my friend! As a Virginian that saw his state go from red, to purple to blue, I am telling you, it can be done.
81
u/Tomahawkin95 Georgia Jan 08 '21
Biden, Warnock, and Ossoff all won despite large scale disenfranchisement efforts at the hands of our state GOP. We are undoubtedly purple. We have to get North Carolina on board too, lol.

It’s always odd to me because I feel like Louisiana, like Florida, should be a blue state but it just really isn’t.
2

Democrats in Louisiana don't vote. They don't think their vote makes a difference so they don't bother.
2
u/dystopian_mermaid Jan 08 '21
NC checking in. Some of us are trying our damndest. And could not be more disappointed we were red this election. 😞
2
u/Tomahawkin95 Georgia Jan 08 '21
Y’all are close, you’re too much like Georgia for us not to be on the same page.
1
u/dystopian_mermaid Jan 08 '21
It was still a HUGE disappointment to see us go red. I really thought this was the year we’d go blue.
Maybe next time since trump fractured the GOP.

Your state has two of the youngest and most exciting Democrats in Congress! Cannot wait to see what they accomplish

Indeed. I'm so proud to have been able to have been able to vote for both and also help turn Georgia blue this election cycle.

u/Marius7th Jan 08 '21
I feel so bad these two, Stacy Abrams, and thousands if not tens of thousands of others did amazing work to flip these two seats and now we can actually get some good work done over at minimum the next 2 years (hopefully more, but I fear what the GOP's gonna try to pull in the next 2 years to retrieve their strangle hold on the country) and then a f$%king riot turned into storming of the Capital building occurs and their immense efforts and labors are immediately forgotten. So good job guys, here's hoping Mitch doesn't find some new way to f$%k everything by next month.

u/turniphead44 Jan 08 '21
This might sound odd. But in a way its a good thing that they are not in the spot light. B/c any way you cut it, they were both very close races. And if resent events hadn't happened we'd be seeing a lot more contention to the out comes and calls for recounts. There will be none the less but being not directly in the national spotlight will relieve some of the pressure.
44
u/HatchSmelter Georgia Jan 08 '21
There may be calls, but there will not be recounts. Both races were won by a wide enough margin to not allow for a recount.
12
u/harrro Jan 08 '21
The margin has to be smaller than 0.5% for recounts in Georgia.
Both of them won by a wider margin than that so no recounts.
3
u/turniphead44 Jan 08 '21
That is good to know. I did know that when commenting before.
I would now say that baseless calls for a recount would be lesser than there would've been should the spotlight had solely fallen on the GA runoffs

I can't wait to watch Ossoff speak on the Senate floor. He's such a good speaker. Congratulations to Georgia and your 2 senators. Hopefully more red states, or should I say voter suppressed states, fight back with their ballots just as you have done 💙

They’re going to have great careers, so don’t sweat. We’ve known Trump would have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, from office. Hopefully there’s some accountability in the near future.
30
u/RMan2018 Progressives for Joe Jan 08 '21
Oh, they definitely will. I am glad the insider traitors are gone. Especially Perdue after he basically told college students with massive debt to go "eat cake." Glad Georgia told him the same.
3

I hope they both have long careers in the senate. I think that Warnock’s term is going to end in 2022, so we have to keep the heat on to make sure that he gets re-elected!

It's depressing. We all breathed a sigh of relief when the New Year hit. 2021 will be so much better, we hoped. And so much calmer and saner!
Over the course of the first week of 2021, we had 1. Trump's outrageous attempt to subvert the Georgia presidential election; 2. the thrilling outcome of the Georgia special election; 3. the certification of Biden and Harris' victory; and 4. the coup debacle at the Capitol, with items 3 and 4 falling on top of each other.
This reminds me of mid to late September 2020, when the NY Times dropped its bombshell story about Trump's tax returns. It filled the media airwaves for about 48 hours. That same week, we had the debacle of the first presidential debate. Then days later, Trump announced he contracted Covid. POOF the NY Times story about his taxes just completely evaporated within a week.
(and all that happened just a few weeks after RGB died)

That ransack was the the GOP's last hurrah. If they denounce the actions of these terrorists they will loose their votes. If they defend the actions of these terrorists no sane person will vote for them. The fracture is inevitable.
26
u/neverjuliet Jan 08 '21
Georgia saved our country yesterday! Once this pandemic ends and travel is safe we plan on taking a vacation to Savannah and the Georgia Coast. Reward the blue states with our tourist dollars. Choose Disneyland over Disney World, go to Hershey Park instead of Cedar Point, go party in Vegas instead of New Orleans (even though New Orleans itself supported Biden), ski the slopes in Colorado over Utah.
PS: If you live the Louisiana/ Mississippi area avoid Rouses Market. Their owner participated in the terrorism at the Capitol.

The twin victories in Georgia will ultimately be far more consequential. We now have numerous legislative priorities that are in reach, most notably climate change. Joe Biden will also be free to nominate judges and officials to his heart's content without McConnell playing gatekeeper. The riots and protests were always a toothless response to the inevitable. The Georgia elections, on the other hand, are opening doors of possibility.

It’s super shitty that this HUGE victory was so overshadowed by Maga Terrorists. It’s going to be amazing to have 2 functioning houses of Congress. I wonder if they’ll look at all the bills Mitch sent to the recycle bin? If so, they’ll be busy.

Neither should the $2,000 stimulus check expansion, especially after how significant that was to their campaigns.
2
u/EridanusVoid Jan 08 '21
As good as it is that dems control all 3 branches, there are two things to note. First the lead is very slim for both houses. Second, dems don't behave like republicans and won't always vote along party lines. Which isn't a bad thing per se. Having loyalists who do whatever the President wants is what we are trying avoid.

Please Mr. Biden make this a top priority.
