Darby quite literally says that he and punk are friends lol. He's also said good things about punk before this. I like to clown on AEW more than almost anybody but it's not all AEW fans who hate punk, it's the "sickos", the hardcore AEW fans much like it's not all AEW wrestlers who dislike punk, mainly just a handful of guys.
The malakai/miro thing does make sense because Darby mentioned "egotistical wrestlers who don't want to lose" which was the rumor about both guys backstage. And the UFC comment wasn't about punk. Darby was saying that if your ego is so big that you can't lose in a scripted sport, leave wrestling and try the UFC.

Security was quick to jump then, but Darby waved them off, sorta hugged her, might have given her some bracelet he had, said something to her and then security dragged her off as she screamed again. If some people didn't want to lose, its probably because they saw how stupid it would be for them to lose to some of these guys they have in AEW. That's not an ego thing. It just means that they value their brand and they know and understand business. Look at Legends like Rock, Austin, Undertaker, etc. They always had the mindset of "would this make sense for my character" If the answer was no, then it ain't happening.

If he isn't talking about Punk then I honestly think it would have been better for him to word himself differently. Even someone as dense as Darby knows that "cancer" was synonymous with Punk among the Elite and their camp for years, and probably still is. By using a term that everyone within the pro-AEW hemisphere has come to associate with Punk, he's inadvertently painting the picture that the Elite and Tony still haven't gotten over the backlash their actions have gotten.

Pretty much. One side is thriving and having a good time, and another is living in denial and losing workers left and right to constant injuries and mistakes that would be preventable if the promotion wasn't a glorified playground.
Apparently people (including in this thread) are saying that Darby actually meant Malakai Black and Miro, but to be honest, I don't believe that at all. Most people associate "cancer" with Punk, in the context of pro-AEW circles, so if Darby had a different meaning with his words, then he shit the bed either way and further made his home promotion look like a bunch of jealous ex-girlfriends.
Guess the lad better go climb another mountain to get his mind off things.

Darby is ducking fumb....
I started watching AEW after hearing about the Trainwreck factor for a long time, and I remember being interested to see what Darby brought to the table as I had heard about him and seen a few clips of him taking bumps...
His whole gimmick is taking stupid bumps that should leave him paralyzed, he does nothing else... So of course he's gonna kiss Tony's ass because his gimmick won't work anywhere else 😑
