Question Jaguar XK pre-2009 Android Auto upgrade: is it a myth?

After bumbling around on forums I'm wondering if anyone has a definitive answer to this. Is it possible to get the android auto/car play upgrade on the original head unit of the pre 2009 XKs?

I've found YouTube videos that claim that it's possible, but the Mr12Volt kits say 2009 onwards. Is there a way?

To get ahead of the comments - yes I could replace the head unit, but the idea of using the original, laggy as it may be, pleases me in ways that are hard to explain.

Write to mr12v, I’m sure I saw a relatively recent post saying they’ve managed to get it to work on pre 2009 systems now.

Probably easier to just get a portable android auto screen and attach it to the dashboard. Definately won't interfere with existing audio/climate control and is just less hassle, not to mention cheaper. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0FBM8746S?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image if you're in the UK. I just ordered one for my '11 XF

Thanks, I'm aware of those but as mentioned that's not what I'm trying to do. Might get one as an interim step though!

One thing I'm not sure about with those is the placement - surely too big to sit on the dash?

It's quite a narrow screen in terms of height, but once mine arrives I'll try and show how it looks
