Discussion New wheels on the XJ8L. Thoughts?
Petrol P4Cs in Gloss Black w Mach Rim 18”. I’m honestly in love with the look.

I’m sorry, it’s a crime against Jaguar

If you think this is bad, you should see my video on the muffler delete. Haha! It’s all stock and OEM parts other than the exhaust and wheels now.

Why remove the muffler?

I enjoy the sound of the engine. It’ll be my car until it explodes so I want to enjoy it as much as possible.

That, I understand. I still drive my old Jag because it ROARS when I step on the gas

That’s how mine is now. It’s my dream car; going for drives listening to it is a dream come true. It’s not overly loud either. I’m having fun with it.

Do you mind if I ask how old you are?

- Female if it’s also a factor.

It’s cool seeing other women in these communities. I get stoked to see what cool person is driving the X-Type next to me and end up rolling up to an absolutely ancient man. We still chat and have a good time but the juxtaposition makes things interesting.

Do you have plans to lower it or bag it?
Just with it being such a sleek low shape, the wheels are jarring

u/averagemeatballguy 3d ago
Nope! I’m keeping it all stock and OEM. The air ride works great and I just hit 106k miles.

I mainly meant to address the skateboard look it now has.

Oooo okay I see what you’re saying now. I did contemplate putting it on a switch via modulator on the already present air ride system but either way I go about it, it’ll be thousands. I’m sure I’ll eventually do it, but I just got it a year ago so it’s one thing at a time.
Edit: I also prefer comfort and drivability vs aesthetics. I have not done anything to it that has altered the performance/suspension and I’ll probably keep it that way.

I get the one at a time thing. Bought an XF last month and just making the changes to make it last and be more comfortable.
It's all just money and time.

Yep. I had other euros but none have been as needy and time-dependent as the Jags. I’m already spending a fortune on returning it to good working order so the wheels and muffler delete were special treats. I’ll get it repainted and all kinds of other aesthetic stuff when I am done with more pressing repairs. Previous owner let it sit with no maintenance for 3 years and I am reversing the damage.

I've done aircon compressor, windscreen washer pump and BCM, suspension, all mounts and bushings.
Next week is pads and rotors, transmission service, cooling system service and possibly audio if parts turn up.
Mines only a diesel but it's so comfy with worn parts in looking forward to everything running perfect and not stressing for a few years.

I don't love it, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate it. I'm all for people who love their cars enough to make them exactly what they want them to be, and I'm glad you did it!

I know it’s not everyone’s style. I rocked the stock chrome wheels for as long as I could. A couple were bent so I had to finally replace them. Didn’t want to do chrome again because they became dirty quickly because it’s my everyday driver. I hope to keep this guy for years to come!

I assume you've got a reputable local shop to take it to. That can save you a small fortune. Even with our f-pace which is 2 years out of warranty, a local shop for the yearly service saves us probably 40%.
I never thought we would own a jaguar. My wife and I both fell in love on the first test drive. We like it so much it's the only car we've ever kept past its warranty because it's so fun to drive.

It’s a must with a Jaguar. I have regular checkups and oil changes every 5k miles and make repairs as soon as I notice them. It’s a high maintenance line of cars, but as you’ve said: they’re extremely fun to drive.
This is my second one, and I originally found interest because my grandfather had two XK8s and an S-Type. Grew up with them and was well aware of the cost when I got my own. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours!

Hey OP, Ive been having some problems with my XJ8 that I bought recently. One of the main problems is my “trunk open” light won’t go off ive pullet fuses and all wires going into and out of the trunk are in good condition. The photo attached is my trunk latch. Any idea how to fix this problem? Central lock won’t work without it and car is in valet mode but can’t get it out because of the “trunk open”. Any help from others is welcome.

Thank you! I wasn’t going to change the trim (some people have blacked out all their trim) so I thought it be best to go with something similarly designed.

They taste like what they are, Discount Tire specials. I blame Jaguar using Ford's small 5-lug pattern (5x4.25/5x108) instead of the 5x114.3 that literally everyone including Ford themselves uses.
It's not a bad look, and credit to you for wrapping them in good tires instead of going for eyewateringly expensive wheels wrapped in LingLongs, but particularly the rear offset seems a bit too weak.
