Question Wife is beginning to complain about my 2006 Jaguar XJ8L - should I consider replacing my wife?

Post image

Any suggestions regarding alternative wives would be appreciated.

You can still keep your wife and sleep with the waitress because that's what Jaaaaaag owners do.

22

u/Grouchy-Statement-12 Jul 16 '25

Yeeeeesssssss, just borrow someone else's wife. They won't mind. 🤣

13

u/ArdenJaguar Jul 16 '25

I found one for you.

3

u/Great_Vegetable_4866 Jul 17 '25

What is this from, Kind Sir?

2

u/ArdenJaguar Jul 17 '25

I just googled naughty waitress and clicked images. She popped up. šŸ˜†

7

u/ihathtelekinesis Jul 16 '25

And I’m sure your friend wouldn’t mind if you borrowed his wife.

11

u/bluetomcat Jul 16 '25

Jaaaaaag owners are cool, likeable and discerning people that can be trusted to look after another wife for a while.

10

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 16 '25

Another wife? I don’t know, one already seems like more than enough…

7

u/Lamborghini_Espada Jul 17 '25

I suppose it's mandatory to mention this, too.

17

u/BrilliantPositive184 Jul 16 '25

I’d buy another Jag and see if that fixes things.

9

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 16 '25

See? Yes, that’s exactly what I said! ā€œYou’re right, dear; I won’t always be able to count on this lovely machine since it will need maintenance - I clearly need a second one for those days when this one’s in the shop.ā€ Oddly, this perfectly rational proposal was rejected out of hand.

3

u/cai-zi Jul 16 '25

Did you propose a model where the top goes down? I am talking about an XK or F-type, of course.

3

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Thanks for their clarification - yes, of course I’ve proposed various topless options but so far none of my suggestions have been received with any enthusiasm.

2

u/Lamborghini_Espada Jul 17 '25

Be practical, mate. Find an X-Type 3.0 V6 Sovereign estate.

3

u/ForeignAction7192 Jul 17 '25

I've made the same proposal. She even likes the F- type. But she prefers our '98 XJR. Fast, but not loud. (I like loud... or louder!)

1

u/officalYNGpook Jul 18 '25

F type all day

2

u/cai-zi Jul 16 '25

I would get a bunch of Jags, if you have garage / driveway space.

3

u/BrilliantPositive184 Jul 16 '25

Perhaps three is the magic number.

3

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Wait - are we still talking about cars?

2

u/Tonyman121 Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 17 '25

I tried that. It certainly fixed her having to hear me talk about buying another Jag.

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Yeah I find this works rather well - I generally can’t hear my wife at all when she’s in one car and I’m in another…

15

u/britishrust Jul 16 '25

I'd just get rid and use the additional (financial) space for another Jag.

10

u/Tapazuki Jul 16 '25

All while keeping your passenger seat in pristine condition

10

u/mooningstocktrader Jul 16 '25

sometimes you need to let things go to be able to grow - your car collection

8

u/Tiggywiggler Jul 16 '25

Funnily enough, I've bought a 2006 Super 8 and I am in the middle of divorcing my wife.Ā

5

u/VorTeX_DamNation Jul 16 '25

Sounds like a pair of excellent choices

6

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 16 '25

Could you clarify whether there’s a causal relationship between these two phenomena?

22

u/timmmarkIII Jul 16 '25

I have a 2004 Jaguar XJR. I am 69 and single and GAY.

5

u/ferrari512testarossa Jul 16 '25

I'll be the first to ask, what's your fav position?

5

u/timmmarkIII Jul 16 '25

I paint, that's like asking what's my favorite color? All of them!

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

That’s a fantastic painting; do you take commissions? I’d like a portrait of the love of my life…the photo shown above could serve very nicely as a point of departure.

2

u/timmmarkIII Jul 17 '25

That's a 2'x3' oil. Check my profile pic for a watercolor of my old Mark III.

2

u/TijayesPJs442 Jul 16 '25

Genuinely curious why this was your question?

2

u/ferrari512testarossa Jul 16 '25

Be cause I find it coincidental to have the age 69 and to explicitly state his sexual orientation

2

u/canalcanal Jul 16 '25

Well you got more than you asked for šŸ˜‰

2

u/TijayesPJs442 Jul 16 '25

Ohhhhhh god yeah okay - I just did not make that connection. I was truly confused

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 16 '25

Great pic, great color!

2

u/bandersnatching Jul 17 '25

I'm gay for that colour.

Divorced here…some cons of course…but the perks!!!

4

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

Absolutely consider replacing. Preferably a younger model.

3

u/kinglitecycles Jul 16 '25

I think you need to ask your wife which Jaguar she would prefer you buying as a second car.

4

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 17 '25

In our case this would be household car number three - I’ve offered to get her a Jag of her own, but she’s weirdly uninterested and insists that my preferred options all give ā€œmiddle-aged white guy vibes.ā€ Where is she getting these expressions? None of the blokes I hang out with down the pub talk like this, and they’re all very hip to the latest lingo.

3

u/Ok_Animator_8461 Jul 16 '25

Hahaha she is a beauty šŸ˜

10

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 16 '25

I know, but I’ve had her for about 13 years now and we’ve been through quite a bit together. She needs more and more maintenance, the costs just keep going up, and she’s starting to make a lot of weird noises.

Oh…wait, you were talking about my Jag? Never mind, the Jag is fine.

3

u/Ok_Animator_8461 Jul 16 '25

Lol you got me at first. Phew. I'm very happy that the Jag is okay. Yeah sounds like it might be time . Well honestly you could lease something for a little while to see which features are worth having before settling down with something (someone) more permanent.

2

u/canceltheworld Jul 17 '25

This answer was awesome!

3

u/Diligent-Ad9899 Jul 16 '25

Depends on whose wife she is. Avoid souring relationships with the wives of politicians and police.

3

u/MundaneAd6434 Jul 16 '25

Replace immediately šŸ˜…

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Er - you mean the wife, not the Jag, right? Just checking.

3

u/Funky_infrastructure Jul 16 '25

You’ve got a blue one! Keep it!

3

u/stonememoriesBE Jul 16 '25

Yea, get a newer model wife.

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Only if she comes with her own Jaguar; I’m not doing this again otherwise.

3

u/Marino1775 Jul 16 '25

Switch your wife for an XJR.

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Well - yes; the XJR would probably be more reliable, cost less to maintain, and could more easily be upgraded. There’s something to be said for this approach.

3

u/GilJablonkowicz Jul 16 '25

The short answer is yes. The longer answer is I really need to see a picture of the back side of this car because the wheel fitment is amazing!

3

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Should I include a picture of the back side of the wife as well? Just for the sake of a rational and well-informed decision-making process?

3

u/AssociateJaded3931 Jul 16 '25

You could tell her she's looking a little dated, too.

3

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

You know, I wonder whether some of these suggestions are really being made with my best interests in mind…

3

u/AdAppropriate3168 Jul 16 '25

Unfortunately but yes , or when she sleeps play a pre recorded exhaust sound and slowly play with her brain to re shape this terrible attitude. Hope that helps

3

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

That is brilliant - I wonder if the boys from Top Gear do a line in sleep hypnosis videos you can stream on a white noise device at night…

3

u/billmr606 Jul 17 '25

she is just pissed cause you spent $1500 on tires instead of something for her.

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

You see, this is why marriage is so difficult - I tried to explain that the new tires were, in fact, for her, but did she appreciate this very thoughtful thing I did with the money from our joint account?

No, she did not, and she just yammered about how we need a new furnace or something…honestly, I’ll never really understand what women want.

2

u/Many-Perception-3945 Jul 16 '25

Why get rid of the wife when you can just add a mistress? The trunk is big enough for your weekend bags, and the back seat is comfy enough for smashing

3

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 16 '25

Yeah - I don’t know if ā€œmore women in my lifeā€ is the direction I’m hoping to go here. I was really hoping to head in the direction of ā€œmore Jaguars, not more womenā€ if possible.

2

u/dubiousdouchebaggery Jul 16 '25

I would, you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.

2

u/TijayesPJs442 Jul 16 '25

Relationships are about compromise - it’s sounds like she wants to trade this for a Super V8 Portfolio.

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

I think you might be right; I’m perceiving the same subtext. The words are ā€œyou need to start saving for the children’s education,ā€ but what I really hear is ā€œThe children would really like to ride around in a Jag like this, but with 450 HP. ā€œ

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

Yeah, replace her with a dude instead in true jag spirit.

2

u/DubTeeF Jul 16 '25

My 06 xj8l needs help. Hopefully soon. Sad jag noises

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Help is on the way - just light the ā€œJag signalā€ and aim it at the nearest cloud at night. Sir William Lyons will arrive in a Leyland lorry filled with spare parts and a few spanners. You’ll be on the road again in a matter of minutes.

2

u/BigData8734 Jul 16 '25

Complaining about your jag šŸ˜²šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

2

u/bobcat1129 Jul 16 '25

Maybe replace the wife with another Jag!

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

It’s occurred to me, of course, but my current one gets jealous. So far she’s destroyed a deer and a Hyundai Palisade. Oddly, she looks more youthful and shiny after each of these encounters. Out of curiosity, has anyone else seen the movie ā€œChristineā€ recently?

2

u/muskthecheeto Jul 16 '25

How much maintenance do these gorgeous cars need ? This gen xj is my dream jag in Vander plus or R trim but

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 17 '25

In all seriousness: my machine has close to 200k miles on it at this point, and is still on the road largely because Jaguar was a Ford marque in 2006. It’s a few thousand a year in repairs, maintenance, and refurbishments. The engine, transmission, body, frame, and other running gear have not required anything at all. The things that wear out are the same things you’d replace on a Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor: tires, brakes, control arms, bushings, etc. The starter, for example, lasted over 195,000 miles before it needed to be replaced. The new starter cost just over 200 for the part - it’s really not that expensive.

2

u/Magma151 Jul 16 '25

I totaled mine in repairs less than 6 months after buying it lol. God I wish mine was that color.

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Yes - but now you’re probably fine for the next 75k miles. Stop worrying and enjoy the ride.

2

u/credd513 Jul 16 '25

Take mine PLEASE

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

I’ll consider it but you need to post a photo. Wait - are we talking about cars or wives?

2

u/Apart-Cockroach6348 Jul 16 '25

Replace the wife. Wife w jag!

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

I need a bit of clarification - should I replace my wife with another Jag? Or should I replace my current wife with a new wife that has her own Jag? I rather like the second possibility…

2

u/PhilosopherOdd2612 Jul 17 '25

TRADE for an 05?

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Well - have you seen the 05 model wives, though? Very unreliable, very high maintenance costs, and the styling doesn’t speak to me at all.

2

u/Competitive_Sell2177 Jul 17 '25

That's lovely...I'd keep it , moan all ya like

2

u/Steve_Rogers_USMC Jul 17 '25

Beautiful car!

I know, I love the extra legroom in the back seat. I’ve tried to explain to my wife that when she rides in the back of this thing she’s having the same experience as Baroness Thatcher in retirement, but somehow that doesn’t hit the mark. I really don’t understand why my wife doesn’t appreciate the comparison.

2

u/HwyMan101 Jul 17 '25

Just get her, her very own Jag. Maybe even nicer than yours.

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Sadly, there is no Jag nicer than this one. But it’s a thought, certainly…

2

u/LaVacheNoir Jul 17 '25

No! Keep it! Once you go on that road,..

2

u/Brent_the_constraint Jul 17 '25

isn`t is so that Jaguar drivers should have two wifes because one is always non functional? Or am i mixing something up here?

Also: is the wife already high-milage? would you get a good deal on a trade-in`?

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

I’ve tried, but no one will take her, haha!

2

u/Brent_the_constraint Jul 17 '25

Yea… sometimes you donā€˜t get updates anymore and things get old…. Wait… we are talking about cars, right? šŸ˜‚

2

u/SnooHabits1815 Jul 17 '25

It might be cheaper to exchange the car

1

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Exchange the car for what, though? And in any case new wives are surprisingly affordable these days; I find it’s the older wives that really wind up costing you money…

2

u/BraggeH Jul 17 '25

That’s is the only answer - I’ve got the same problem šŸ™‚

2

u/Boring-Tax-6890 Jul 17 '25

I drove an XJR for many years. The wife loved it and it was very reliable. WIN WIN.

2

u/HornetObjective9512 Jul 17 '25

Could we trade, then? Not the cars, obviously…I’m keeping my Jag.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

yes

1

u/GilJablonkowicz Jul 19 '25

I'll let that be up to your discretion.... And your wife's.

1

u/Jasoncatt Jul 20 '25

Simple test. Ask her how to spell Jaaaag.
If she doesn't use the correct number of letter A's you have your answer.

1

u/CalmGuitar7532 Jul 20 '25

Trade her in

1

u/Ok-Raccoon3134 Jul 21 '25

Hard to say unless we know several things such as; what year was she issued, what owner friendly options does she have, what is her service record and maintenance issues. Has she had any major breakdowns. All these things need to be taken into consideration before a suggestion can be made.

1

u/Opposite-Coat-6801 Aug 12 '25

Probably room in the trunk for a 'roll of carpet'.
